- THIRTY-SEVEN -

Sophia woke up with a light hanging above her silhouette. Her hands, along with her legs, were tied to the wooden chair. The room's walls were painted black, and a strange smell was in the air. The lightbulb above her was moving around, lighting her face here and there. Sophia started looking around, scared and moving uncontrollably, believing she may free herself. The ropes were tight, and her wrists were already red and bruised. Some tears started rolling down her pale cheeks, her mascara destroying her beautiful characteristics with its black colour. It was the first time she felt so threatened in her life, and her heart was pounding that loud. Some steps could be heard; they stopped outside the dark door in the room entrance. Sophia silently prayed it was Felix, even if it would be difficult. The door opened, Damon was standing in the darkness. He walked into the room with his arms behind his back and a smile on his face. James was behind him; he closed the door and leaned on the wall with his foot against it. He crossed his arms and looked at Damon, who was glaring at Sophia.

"Wakey, wakey darling."

"W-Where am I!?"

Sophia started panicking, panting, and ready to faint again. James chuckled and rolled his eyes, receiving a look from Damon.

"Some kind of basement. I am not going to hurt you, Sophia."

She stayed silent while sobbing, thinking Damon will kill her because of her husband.

"I did nothing to you...!"

"It doesn't have to do with you but with your husband. I told him to stay away, but why would a "nice guy" like him keep himself behind, hu?"

"Felix will find me and save me, you damn junkie!"

Sophia tried to appear angry and robust, leaning towards Damon; the only thing she managed to do was make both Damon and James have a fit of laughter. Damon mocked her, saying before "wiping away" his fake tears.

"Where did you learn that word, Sophia!? Me? A junkie?"

"You could say like husband like wife, hu?"

James added with a grin as Damon nodded, still laughing. Sophia didn't find anything funny at all. She kept struggling under the door opened again, a woman stepping into the room this time with crossed arms and a frown.

"So this was your big plan, brother? Kidnapping his wife?"

"Oh, c'mon, it's kinda genius, don't you think?"

"Whatever."

Deetra chuckled and stayed beside her sibling, staring at the woman with hate. Sophia understood who the woman is by the word "brother". She felt awkward and embarrassed as she was watching her closely.

"Your husband is the reason my boyfriend returned home half-dead with marks from burning cigarettes, whore."

"W-What.... Felix n-never did something like t-that to whoever your partner is!"

"I am her boyfriend, and I can show you if you want."

Sophia didn't answer back; she was glaring down. James unbuttoned and took off his shirt; her eyes widened in terror. James' arms and chest were covered in tiny marks; her eyes got tearier in seconds, understanding who he was. Sophia knew that her husband had got James, and she had asked him if he hurt him in any way. Felix had answered that he hadn't touched him at all, only had a conversation together. He had clearly lied, but there was no way to prove it until now.

"T-There's no way h-he...."

Her skin turned paler than before, and she had stopped struggling here and a few minutes. Maybe because there was a new thought in her brain, an idea saying that Felix won't rescue her and leave her to rot. That couldn't be true, Felix loved her with all his heart, or that's what she thought and hoped

"Yes, he hurt him; ACCEPT IT!"

Deetra bit her tongue and started yelling with narrowed eyebrows while grinding her teeth. She kneeled a bit in front of her before looking straight into her eyes; Sophia glared back at her nervously.

"You wait every night for your husband to return home with your sexy lingerie and homemade dinner to ask about his day, and he returns safe and sound! I was crying for God knows how many nights, hoping James is alive and not hurt, and you know what I saw in the end!?"

Deetra was shooting more and more, James tried to stop her, but Damon put his arm in front of him, not letting him move closer to her. He turned his chin to him, mumbling, "Let her". James nodded and took a step back before putting his shirt back on. Deetra was waiting for an answer from Sophia but could see that she wouldn't receive anything soon, so she continued her short speech.

"I glared at a man with infected wounds and scars, barely talking or moving! I thought he would die, Sophia! Do you know how it feels seeing someone you love with every beat of your heart and every drop of your blood die in front of your own eyes!? Do you!? No, you fuckin' don't! You and your terrible husband are the reasons I am afraid I won't see my brother or my boyfriend when I wake up in the morning!"

Deetra lost her patience in seconds; she stood up and punched her across the face. Sophia gasped for air, barely feeling her nose and teeth. Soon later, she tasted blood. She coughed; her nose was bleeding badly.

"DEETRA! ARE YOU OUF OF YOUR MIND!?"

Damon grabbed her hand with force as Deetra had raised it, ready to strike again.

"It's not her fault; she has to pay but not for everything. If you have anger inside you, keep it for Robinson."

Deetra inhaled deeply and turned her face to her brother. She licked her bottom lip and looked down, groaning.

"I can't believe that I'm saying that, but you're right."

Deetra put down her arm slowly and steadily, looking at Sophia, who was panting. She took a step closer to Sophia; she pulled back, thinking she'd hit her again. But, instead, Deetra started whispering madly.

"You may believe that my brother respects you cause you are a woman, but I don't. You chose that arsehole for some reason; maybe the two of you aren't that different."

She growled and spat on her; Sophia glared down in fear and in tears. Deetra mumbled something under her breath and exited the room with James following her.

"Deetra, my darling! What the hell was that!?"

He grabbed her arm when she arrived in the living room, turning her around.

"What do you mean?"

"That was harsh! She did nothing!"

"Well, she's with Felix for some reason! If she was any different, she wouldn't end up with a person like him!"

"We don't know their relationship, sweetheart! Maybe he's kind and polite towards her, hiding behind a mask. Humans behave differently in front of the people they admire."

"I guess, I don't know! I just looked at her and blacked out for a few minutes... Remembering all the awful things Robinson did to you...."

James put his palms under his girlfriend's face lifting it gently with a soft smile. He rubbed her cheeks with his thumbs before giving her a kiss on the lips.

"Anyway, I was talking with Damon, and he wanted to hurt her somehow as a payback to Felix. He said he didn't have the guts to hurt a woman, except if it's in the bedroom."

Deetra rolled her eyes, and James giggled at her reaction.

"He told me I had to hit her, but I couldn't do that, too! I've never smacked a girl before!"

"Are you one hundred per cent sure about that?"

Deetra crossed her arms and stared at him with a sarcastic look making him gulp before returning to what he was saying.

"Anyway, we wanted to ask you to give her a rough slap, but well, you did way worse than we expected."

"I don't want Felix to think we have empathy inside us, James. It's better if he believes we are some kind of dangerous monsters than soft, sympathetic humans."

"If you say so, I don't know if the bleeding is good or not, though."

"We'll find out soon."

James licked his teeth and glared down for a second before going back to giving her attention.

"Now that we're alone, I wanted us to talk about Damon."

"My brother? I can't deal more with him and his arse today."

"It's important, and I hope I can make up your mind about an... issue."

Back in the basement, Damon had kneeled down, trying to wipe away the blood from Sophia's nose with a small white towel. Sophia was letting a small groan here and there in pain; she believed Deetra had broken her nose for a second.

"And... you are better now, or I think so. Your beautiful face is visible, at least."

"Do you flirt with every woman you kidnap or just me, Smiley?"

"I don't kidnap women, usually. I hope that answers your question."

Damon smirked and got Sophia's iPhone out of his pants pocket. She leaned back on the chair with no expression.

"What's the password?"

"Why should I tell you?"

"Well, you have to if you want to talk to your husband."

"It's... 0725...."

"What's on 25th July, Sophia?"

Damon unlocked her phone and went through her contacts. It didn't take him long to find a contact named "Dearest", he knew it was Felix. She didn't have many numbers shaved in her device, anyways.

"My wedding day."

Damon chuckled back at her cheesy answer. Of course, it would be the date of THAT day.

"Meeting Felix is one of these good things that happened in your life, hu?

"One of the good? He's the BEST thing that happened in my life, Damon! But I am not waiting for someone like you to understand me...."

Sophia mumbled the last part with hate, but Damon simply ignored her as he pressed the phone against his ear with a grin, knowing what's about to go down. It was rude of her to think that Damon never loved before. Plus, Damon found it disgusting how Felix was Sophia's whole world. Felix picked up the phone sooner than he and Sophia expected.

"Sophia, my love! Where are you?! I couldn't find you here and two hours!"

"I am not your love, but thanks for the compliment; I didn't know you lean THAT way, Robinson!"

"... Hopkins, you... you... where's my wife!?"

"Oh shut up! She's right here!"

"I want to talk to her right now!"

"Fine, fine, screw off already!"

Damon pressed the phone against her ear; Felix started panicking when he heard his wife breathing heavily and sobbing.

"F-Felix!"

"My darling, are you okay?! Did they hurt you?!"

Sophia looked up at Damon, who nodded and mumbled, "Say yes." with a half-opened mouth.

"His sister punched me, Felix.... I don't feel really good; I keep bleeding...."

"W-Where are you!?"

"I d-don't know... I think in a basement but- "

Damon put the phone away and brought it back to him; his voice angered Felix more.

"Enough, enough...."

"If anything happens to my delicate, sensitive flower, I will- "

"Bla, bla, bla, you talk a lot Robinson for someone that's at such a disadvantaged position."

A growl could be heard clearly from the other side of the line. Felix was panicking, unaware that Damon could do something like that. He had messed it up for good, this time. It was the first time in his life that someone he loved was in such significant danger.

"You tried to play with someone that's way more powerful than you, dickhead, and you fucked up."

"What do you want, Smiley. Money?"

"MONEY!?"

Damon started laughing loud and clean, messing with him. Felix just got angrier with his behaviour.

"I already have money, bloody idiot! All I want is for you to destroy the photos. If you do any funny shit, your wife is as good as dead."

Felix gulped so loud that Damon heard him, and that brought a smirk to his lips.

"Fine."

"Every bit of evidence, if you play with me, Robinson, I'll take your "delicate sensitive flower" away from you again but send HER head in a packet this time! Got me?"

"Y... Yes."

"I'll call you again when it's time to meet."

"You little junkie- "

"Nah, ah, ah, watch your language. Have a great evening, love!"

Damon hung up the call before he managed to say more.

Felix was puffing in anger, rubbing his face being all sweaty. He was playing with fire, and he knew it, but nothing stopped him. Now, it was too late as Sophia was already hurt. He had to talk with Abigail and Mason immediately.
