- THREE -
Abigail sighed and looked down, worrying. It's been a while since Mason wanted to talk about Damon, and now with his attitude, Damon opened wide some old wounds of her husband's. She could see the uncertainty in his eyes; he was afraid that she will leave him sooner or later if Hopkins continue being that close.
Abigail's feelings for Damon were complicated. She swore she was over him already after so long, but sometimes still, her heart was beating faster when her eyes were on him. Of course, she loved Mason and didn't regret the marriage nor the kid, but she had to try more to get completely over Hopkins. This time, there weren't any excuses; any mistake would cost her way more than before.
Mason held her hands tightly; there were tears in the corner of his eyes. He almost looked like he had regretted that proposal and that diamond ring. Mason wasn't jealous of Damon anymore; he was just hurt and tired by his wife's sayings and actions. She knew that he didn't like him around after what happened, but she still let him walk around the hallways of their new house.
"Abigail, my love, I don't want Damon around, and I want you to respect me and understand me... The last year's been quite tricky for us, and now that we settled down, all I want is some peace... Our lives already put our daughter in danger, and with Damon here, everything becomes worse quickly...."
She stayed silent and looked over the baby; it was all curled and asleep in its crib. Their child was an innocent baby; it didn't have to go through terrible shit and meet this hostile world from now. Their daughter didn't deserve any of this. She didn't deserve to run away for the rest of her life because of her parents or Damon.
"If you don't love me, I get it! I'd choose Hopkins over me every day if I were you- but please, I need the truth! I could sign on every paper if you want a divorce; I just want our daughter to be safe and sound!"
Abigail didn't know what to say; she just sat there frozen and pale. She didn't want to lose Mason but didn't want to keep Damon away neither. She had to choose, though, for the sake of her daughter.
"You're... right; I am so sorry, Mason... Damon won't be here again, I promise, only if it's essential...."
"Thank you so much for understanding me, Abigail...."
He smiled softly and hugged her gently; Mason was so happy they found a solution quickly. He was surprised that Abigail agreed with him, though.
Mason's phone started ringing out of a sudden; he groaned as he checked it, finding out it was Felix. He answered it, though, soon hearing his boss' voice.
"Mason?"
"Yes, boss."
"Is everything alright? How's Abigail?"
"Everything's fine, boss...."
"Could you come here, please? I know you want to enjoy your daughter's birth and all, but everyone's pretty busy, and I need your help with something."
"Yes, that's fine; I'm on my way...."
Mason wanted to spend more time in the house with his wife and daughter, but Felix had to call him over. It's okay, though; he knew the importance of his job. He stood up and changed into his suit; Abigail could see how tired he was.
"Did Felix want you there?"
"Yeah, it's fine, though...."
It wasn't; he hated it. After getting ready, he kissed his wife goodbye and stared at the baby for some seconds. Mason smiled happily and moved his lips to the baby's head, leaving a small, gentle kiss.
"I was wondering if you'd like to sit down and choose a name for her at night...."
"That'd be amazing, love. I'll pick up some food when I return so you don't have to cook. How does that sound?"
"Wonderful, Mason...."
Abigail smiled softly, mumbling, "Be careful...." as Mason stepped out of the room. He turned around for a split second with a smile before answering "I will." back.
Mason made sure to grab some coffee as he headed to his workplace, trying to feel a bit better. He rushed to Felix's office, knocking before walking in.
Mason faced Felix sitting behind his office casually with a pen between his fingers, an unfamiliar woman on the other side with crossed legs.
"Hello Mason, take a seat."
Felix smirked, pointing at the leather chair in front of him. Mason sat beside the woman before sipping from his coffee.
"Mason, this is Sakura, she just moved here from Japan, and I want you to show her around the place."
"Oh, uh... It's nice to meet you, Sakura; I'm Mas -"
Mason raised his hand; the ginger-haired girl grabbed it and shook it in seconds with a wide smile.
"Oh, it's a blessing to meet you, Mason- Felix has told me so much about you! Is it true your wife gave birth recently? Oh, I love babies!"
She giggled as Mason smiled back awkwardly. Felix leaned back and crossed his arms.
"You're both free to go. If I need anything, I'll call you."
"Um, boss -"
"Oh, of course, boss! Let's go, Mason!"
Sakura grabbed Mason's free arm and basically dragged him outside, the same smile on her lips. Mason had, of course, to follow his boss' orders and show her around even if he wasn't in the mood to do it.
"So, Mason, is it a boy or a girl?"
"Excuse me?"
"Your kid, silly!"
"Oh, uh, it's a girl!"
"Have you named her yet?"
"No, not really...."
"Oh, that's such a big shame!"
Mason showed Sakura every part of the workplace, but he just wanted to go home in the back of his head. She was looking at everything with big eyes, dipped in excitement like a small child. Her enthusiasm was something out of this world. It's been a while since Mason came face to face with a person like her.
To Sakura's eyes, everything was fascinating, even a small coffee maker. Mason found her expressions quite cute; she grabbed everything and kept it between her fingers, exploring it.
"That's all, Sakura!"
"Aw!"
A pout took over her lips as she wanted to look around more. She loved exploring and going on adventures. Mason wasn't giving much attention to her, but Sakura's eyes were on him the whole day, admiring him with a dreamy look. Maybe if he knew it, things would be different.
It was around eight pm when they returned to the surface; Mason checked his phone as Sakura looked right and left before fixing her dress.
"Hey Mason, I-I was wondering if you'd like to grab a d-drink with me! It's a bit early, and I don't want to go home yet - of c-course if you w-want! I mean, what am I saying! Your wife and daughter probably wait for you at home, and I am here asking for a drink, that's ridiculous -"
"Hey, slow down, crazy! Yes, that sounds like a good idea."
He answered, still checking his phone, messaging his wife if everything is alright. Abigail answered back shortly that the baby is asleep, and she watches tv. He smiled softly, Sakura tried to see his messages secretly, but she failed.
"There's this pub down the street that's really good; I like its beer. We could go there if you'd like."
"That sounds really good; I can't wait!"
Mason smiled and started walking towards the pub; Sakura was walking with jumpy steps by his side. He laughed, seeing her glare around with these big brownish eyes in total shock.
Her excitement increased when she stepped into the pub and took a seat at a table. Mason sat beside her and left his phone on the table.
"Do you like beer, Sakura?"
"I love it!!!"
Mason giggled, ordering two beers for him and her. She kept looking around; her eyes were shining under the bar's lights. Sakura pushed her fingers through her medium-length red hair with a shy grin before turning to Mason. Her glare was wrapped around his silhouette; she loved seeing him smile and laugh. That dreamy look disappeared when he turned his chin and looked at her, confused.
"Is everything alright, Sakura?"
"Yes, it's just- wow! Your wife must feel really lucky to have a guy like you by her side!"
Mason laughed and looked down with a sad look before mumbling something; he sipped from his beer, enjoying the pub's music. Sakura leaned on her arm and put her free hand above Mason's. He gulped anxiously, trying to understand what she was trying to achieve.
"Is something wrong, Mason?"
"No, no, everything's fine, Sakura! Nothing to worry about...."
They both enjoyed their evening and had some laughs. Sakura's heart skipped a beat when Mason insisted on paying for the beers as she was new around. He even drove her home as she hadn't taken her driver's license yet, and it would be dangerous to take the underground at ten pm.
"Thank you so much for the amazing evening, Mason!"
Sakura bowed and glared at Mason, who was at the driver's seat. He smiled back and nodded.
"Nothing to worry about! I'll see you tomorrow, have a great evening, Sakura."
"Oh, you too, Mason!"
Mason sped up the car as she watched him in the distance with her arms against her chest. She sighed before walking into her block of flats.
Mason grabbed some pizza for his wife and him; he couldn't wait to see his family again. He parked the car and unlocked the door, soon finding his wife on the couch asleep. He smiled in total bliss; she looked so beautiful with her messy hair and all curled. Mason left the pizza on the coffee table as he shook his wife's shoulder softly. Abigail woke up, yawned, and smiled, facing her husband.
"Hey, sorry for waking you up, but I brought pizza, and I didn't know if you had eaten dinner...."
"Oh, thank you so much, darling...."
Abigail lifted her body as Mason brought two beers from the fridge along with two plates and sat beside her. She leaned against his neck and sniffed, soon raising her head and looking at him with half-opened eyes.
"Why do you smell like cherry blossom?"
"Hm?"
Mason turned his head to face his wife; he chuckled softly, seeing her confused face. He pushed his arm around her neck and rubbed her shoulder softly.
"There's this new girl that came all the way from Japan and is working for Felix, and he wanted me to show her around the place! Her name is Sakura, she's quite the energetic one! You should meet her; you two will get really along!"
"I... guess."
Abigail shrugged and pulled away, leaning against the couch. She opened the box and grabbed a slice of pizza before biting into it. She glared at it strangely as Mason looked at her, confused with her reactions.
"You never bought pepperoni pizza before... What changed this time?"
"Pepperoni pizza?"
Mason looked over the box, gasping softly before laughing. Abigail couldn't understand what he was finding funny.
"Yeah, you know we usually have cheese pizza because I like it while you are okay with everything...?"
"Sorry, sorry, my memory betrayed me! You see, Sakuda had told me that she LOVES pepperoni pizza, and somehow I messed it up in my brain!"
Abigail growled and took the slices of pepperoni off pizza, not answering back.
"So, did you think of any names while I was gone?"
"Yeah, what about... Emma?"
"Hm... Well, that doesn't sound bad, I guess... Why not!"
Mason shrugged; Abigail didn't think he would agree with her that easily.
"I was thinking of coming to work tomorrow."
"And what about the baby?"
"Take it... along. Plus, I'd like to meet... Sakera."
"You mean Sakura, Abigail."
Abigail bit her bottom lip hating that her husband corrected her. That lady would be house trouble if she didn't stay away from her husband.
The next day, when Abigail woke up, Mason was long gone. She got dressed up as quickly as she could, wanting to go to her workplace. She dressed up Emma and put her in her baby basket before rushing to her work.
When she got there, Mason was nowhere to be found. She was worried as she went to Felix's office and knocked on the door. Felix's eyes widened in happiness when he saw the baby, quickly grabbing it and holding it with a smile. Abigail was looking around the office with crossed arms; Mason wasn't here, too.
"Where's Mason?"
"Have you chosen a name yet?"
Felix had ignored her question; all his attention was on the newborn baby, who was laughing as he was making funny grimaces.
"Her name is Emma- Where's Mason?"
"Well, I don't know- Probably at his office with Sakura. You should meet her; Mason and she are getting really along!"
Abigail grabbed the baby gently and put it back in its baby basket. Felix pouted and crossed his arms before glaring at Abigail.
"I should have known something was wrong the moment he stepped into our house with a pepperoni pizza."
"Excuse me?"
"Just leave me alone, Felix!"
Abigail grabbed the baby basket and left her boss' office as Felix continued looking at her, confused. She headed straight to her husband's office and opened the door without knocking. He found them there, sitting and talking while laughing. Mason turned his head and stood up when he saw his wife.
"Darling, you came! This is Sakura- Sakura, this is my wife, Abigail!"
"Oh, nice to meet you- Is this Emma!? Aw, such a cutie! She must be the luckiest girl in the world with you as her father, Mason!"
Sakura ignored Abigail as Abigail focused on her compliment. She hated her, she was complimenting her husband, and he did absolutely nothing to stop her!
"Mason, can we talk?"
"Um, yes?"
"Outside, alone."
Mason looked at Sakura and smiled softly; she nodded and started being on her phone as they walked out of the office and closed the door.
"What was that!?"
"Pardon?"
"She was clearly flirting with you, and you let her!"
"She just complimented me!"
"That wasn't complimenting! It was plain flirting in front of me, your wife!"
"Abigail, are you kidding me!?"
Mason rolled his eyes and groaned before turning to his wife. He raised his arms in anger as Abigail scoffed.
"Oh, of course! Sorry, Mrs Abigail! When a redhead flirts with you, I should shut up and stay down, but when a redhead finds me nice and cute, I should stop her because you know why!? It's wrong! You're just jealous of me this time! When Damon was going around flirting and buying expensive shit, you weren't opening your mouth at all!"
Abigail gasped softly before growling. She held roughly on the baby basket and turned around, not saying anything.
"Where are you going!?"
"Home! I hope you have fun with your Japanese ginger head, arsehole!"
She started walking away, hoping that Mason will chase her and say sorry. Instead, Mason puffed in anger and returned to his office. She could hear him talk with Sakura in the distance. It was the first time that Abigail was so close to tears, maybe because she received a dose of her own medicine.
