- NINETEEN -
After that night, Damon didn't meet Alex again, neither his friend, Michael. He was relieved that he didn't have to deal with them, but Domenico was in trouble. He wasn't allowed to stay out alone anymore, and most of his free time, he was trapped in his bedroom. Damon was afraid his cousin would put them both in more trouble if he continued meeting Monica. Domenico hated Damon's restrictions but followed them closely as he had to.
When Deetra and James returned to the mansion, it was evening. Damon was alone in the living room, enjoying a glass of expensive red wine. His fingers were wrapped around the glass as he brought it closer to his lips being on his phone. Deetra chuckled, leaving the suitcase in front of him before crossing her arms. Her brother raised his glare and looked at her and then at James, who was panting.
"Oh, you're back. Such a shame."
"Where's Domenico?"
Damon rolled his eyes, seeing his sister refer to their cousin without losing time. She was glancing around, but he was nowhere to be found.
"He started seeing a girl and got us in trouble. I made him stay inside, and he pouts all the time! She's that kid's ex-boyfriend or something.... ya know, the one that had attacked us."
"Alex?"
"A kid attacked you?"
James added with a giggle, raising his eyebrow before looking at Damon. He puffed and let the glass on the coffee table.
"Just some teenager that lives off drugs and tried to steal from me."
"Well, did he get anything?"
James spoke, lifting his hand; Damon laughed in return before answering,
"A nasty scar."
James sighed and looked away. "I'll take the suitcases to our room...." he mumbled under his breath as Deetra nodded. "Do you need any help, darling?" she pushed her palm on his shoulder, but he shook his head. "I'm fine, no worries," James smiled, grabbing the suitcases and walking upstairs. Deetra sat beside her sibling and crossed her legs. Her eyes were on the glass as Damon smiled, grabbing it and handing it to her. She giggled and had a sip tasting the crimson red wine.
"I saw how you were staring at it, so here, just have it."
"I hope Domenico isn't "heartbroken" now that he can't see his chick."
Damon shrugged and stood up to go and prepare another glass of wine for him.
"It's just a girl, Deetra; he can find another fish in the sea."
"Well,"
Deetra glared at the glass before moving it around her fingers gently. The wine was hitting against the glass shining under the light.
"There are plenty of fishes in the sea, Damon, but you still were stuck at catching a... particular one."
Damon turned around, leaning against the wall while holding a new glass. He gulped and laughed awkwardly before drinking some.
"That's... different."
"How's so?"
"Abigail at least liked me for real...!"
"She liked you so much that she had a kid with another man!"
Deetra laughed loudly; Damon turned red and tried to hide his face. Okay, maybe Abigail ended up marrying and having a family with someone else, but that didn't mean THAT much. A small part of Damon still believed that Abigail liked him a tiny bit; she just didn't want to admit it because of Mason.
"S-She likes me!"
"Damon,"
Deetra stood up and walked straight to her brother with a groan. She crossed her arms and started talking in an angry tone.
"Abigail is a married woman with a daughter. She chose Mason over you; just accept it already! It's been so long since that night at the party! Get over it!"
Deetra screamed at her brother, receiving in return a puff and a growl. Damon decided not to say anything back; he just glanced away before closing his eyes for a few seconds.
"I'll just go to bed; I have to wake up early tomorrow."
"You better do it, then."
Deetra nodded; Damon pushed her aside nervously and went straight to his bedroom. He undressed quickly and got under the blankets in the dark. Damon tried to keep his anger back; he knew that his sister was right. The drug baron hit his face against the pillow; he couldn't wait for the day to be over.
Meanwhile, Domenico was on his phone messaging Monica. His head was hanging off the edge of the bed, and a broad smile was playing off his lips. He looked beyond happy as he was typing with his thumbs a new message. He hated how he couldn't see her anymore, and Monica couldn't stop apologising for her ex's behaviour.
His body jerked up as a new message popped up on his laptop that was on the other side of the bed. He had it turned on to listen to some music, and the unexpected message caught him off guard.
"It couldn't be...."
Domenico brought his face closer to the screen seeing a familiar username. His eyes opened wide, and his teeth were visible now as a grin was decorating his face.
"Hoplite02: Hey Dom, got my laptop back earlier! R u online?"
Domenico left his iPhone aside and focused on the laptop's screen, rushing to message back to his favourite person on the internet.
"Dom444: Hey Hoplite, glad you're back! How are you? How did your dad give it back so early!?"
"Hoplite02: Just fixed something for him and decided to hand it back. I'm fine, how's London?"
"Dom444: Amazing! Plus, I met a girl, she's so pretty! I honestly don't know what she sees in me, though"
Domenico saw three dots knowing that Hoplite was typing, but soon she stopped. He raised his eyebrows, confused, waiting for her to message back. The dot next to her profile turned grey from green. Domenico continued starring at the screen. "Why did she go offline...." he thought, confused before sighing. A few seconds later, the dot turned green again.
"Hoplite02: Sorry, my internet's been acting up lately. That's nice; I bet she's cute! Oh, Dom, u're a wonderful boy, don't underestimate urself!"
"Dom444: If you say so, she has a dangerous ex, though. Some asshole named Alex, he doesn't leave her alone"
"Hoplite02: Um, then, maybe you should leave her alone...? I don't want ur life on the line, dude"
"Dom444: You sound like my cousin, lord"
He rolled his eyes and turned to the room's door as he had heard a knock. "Come in," he mumbled as someone opened the door, soon facing a tall, muscular man. He puffed and pulled the laptop aside.
"What do you want, James? Are you back already?"
"Well, I heard Damon and Deetra talk about you and say something about a... flirt or so. I was wondering if you'd like to talk about it with someone."
"Um, I... I guess?"
Domenico shrugged as James sat at the bed; soon, the boy was beside him, leaning his arms on his thighs.
"So, what's the girl's name?"
"Monica!"
Domenico answered happily, leaning his chin on his hands, a wide smile being on his lips. James narrowed his eyes, seeing the boy behaving childishly.
"Okay... I heard Damon say about her crazy ex-boyfriend... Why don't you tell her to have a sleepover with you?"
"Here?"
"Yes! I'm sure Damon would be okay with that!"
Domenico glared down, rubbing his cheeks. He didn't know if she would accept his proposal. Plus, she didn't realise that Damon was Smiley, except if Alex said anything to her. It's not like she will believe any words that leave his mouth, anyways.
"That sounds like a... good idea! I'll go now and ask Damon!"
Domenico stood up and rushed to his cousin's bedroom without letting James say more.
He stepped inside Damon's bedroom without knocking and turned on the lights with a smirk. Damon opened his eyes and groaned before pushing the pillow on his head with a loud growl.
"Damon!"
"What!?"
"Can Monica come and have a sleepover?"
"Are ya out of your mind, kiddo?"
Damon bit his tongue before throwing the pillow at his cousin. Domenico caught it and glared at him, confused.
"You can't bring her a stranger that has connections with people that hate me and want to destroy me!"
"Oh, c'mon, Alex isn't a threat! He can barely hold a knife!"
"Domenico, no."
"Please! I never lived through a teenage love!"
"Tell that to your father, not me! I didn't keep you back from making friends and flirting!"
Damon rolled his eyes as Domenico leaned against the door, glaring down. His excitement was nowhere to be found now, and he looked sadder than usual. He was close to tears, and Damon couldn't take his eyes off him, seeing how miserable he looked.
"Domenico, if you just want to fuck, you can tell me."
"What? N-No!"
"Domenico, it's fine -"
"I like her! A lot! I just want to spend time with her while we both feel safe!"
Damon sighed and moved his body so he can see Domenico better.
"Ugh... I know I'm going to regret that, but... fine. You can bring her."
Domenico raised his head, his face lighting up in seconds as he threw the pillow back to Damon with force. The kingpin groaned and held it as Domenico hugged him with all his strength.
"Thank you so much, cousin! I'll go and tell her!"
"Whatever, just let me sleep, dammit!"
Domenico nodded happily before leaving the room closing the door behind. Finally, Damon could return back to his sleep.
Domenico messaged Monica in seconds, and he was more than excited when he saw the message of her accepting his idea. They would spend a whole day together going around the mansion having fun. Of course, he wouldn't say anything about Damon to Monica and wouldn't refer to Smiley at all. He would just find some stupid excuse about this expensive mansion and all these bodyguards and roll around with it. Domenico couldn't wait to see her and had long forgotten Hoplite, who was messaging him to see if he's okay as it's been a while since he answered any of her messages. He lied back and closed his eyes, fantasising about Monica and ignoring the sound of Hoplite's messages.
The next day, Domenico couldn't stay in his seat as Damon was driving towards the centre of London to pick up Monica. It was afternoon, and he couldn't wait to see her. The boy hadn't still answered any of Hoplite's messages.
"Calm down, Domenico, Jesus!"
"Sorry, sorry, it's just I can't wait to spend time with her!"
Damon stopped the car and parked it. They stayed in silence for a bit waiting for Monica to show up.
"So, you both be careful, and if you need anything, you'll talk to Deetra or James. I won't be around all day, so yeah."
"We'll be fine, Damon."
"Also, there are condoms in your bag."
Domenico turned around with wide eyes before grabbing Damon by his shirt's collar in anger. He brought him closer to him, talking with a half-opened mouth while grinding his teeth.
"WHY DID YOU BUY ME CONDOMS!?"
"I didn't buy them, kiddo. I told Jame to buy them, Jesus."
Domenico puffed and rubbed his head.
"Oh yeah, that makes sense; I feel better now - ARE YOU KIDDING ME, DAMON!? If she finds them, she'll probably think I want her for sex and not anything else!"
"Wait - you actually like her?"
The drug baron turned to his cousin, confused; Domenico nodded again and again, furious.
"O-Of course! Do I look like a guy that likes one-night stands!?"
"I don't know. Do I look like one?"
"Y-Yes!"
Damon gasped softly and looked outside, hurt. "Is this why I can't get into a relationship with a good woman...." he mumbled under his breath, ignoring Domenico. The boy puffed and turned his head, glaring outside. Soon, he saw Monica in the distance walking with a bag over her shoulder.
"Anyways, I just didn't want your father over my head if anything happened... You don't have to use them, ya know?"
"I w-won't! Now shut up she's coming...."
Domenico opened the door to go and greet her. Damon just looked at the steering wheel and then at the road.
If he got himself in trouble because of Domenico's stupid flirts, he'd send him back to Italy in seconds.
