The Big Apple

A/N: Okay some I'm from MA so most of my knowledge of New York City.....isn't. But I tried!

"Oh my God Yorkie we're going to have so much fun, we're going to see everything and do you think it'll be crowded, I don't think it'll be crowded, it better not be crowded because COVID but--"

"CHERRY SLOW DOWN." New York yelled moving past several pissed off New Yorkers dashing through the subway. He couldn't believe his hand was forced so hard, but DC had to drop off some official papers in the city which meant New York's promise to take his boyfriend to see his state came faster than was expected.

It had sounded so romantic when New York was talking to DC about his hometown when they were cuddling together in bed. All the bakeries he could take him to, looking at all the billboards and lights in Times Square, maybe go window shopping in shops that they couldn't begin to imagine shopping in, just general couple stuff.

New York was hoping to have a couple months to at least plan the trip; then those papers arrived at the Statehouse.

DC gasped and stopped right in the middle of the walkway, causing New York to collid right into him.

"YORKIE look! I can see some of the city from down here! Oh my God this is so cool! IDC will be so jealous, can I get one of those pretzels you're always talking about, I know you bring me one every week but it'll just feel different eating it in the city y'know?" DC asked and New York could tell his boyfriend was getting overly excited with the way he bounced on his heels and was stimming with his hands.

"Okay cherry, cherry calm down." New York said in a soft voice gently taking DC's hands and holding them tight. DC stopped bouncing and looked right into his boyfriend's eyes, ready for whatever he was about to tell him.

"Listen when we go into the city, it's going to be crowded, people are going to be in no mood, and it'll be busy. You need to stay with me okay?" New York ordered. DC nodded, understanding the severity behind New York's voice. The northeastern state stood up on his toes to kiss DC's forehead; he didn't want to scare the fed, but New York City was different then Washington, and the young man clearly never been out of the state before living in Orlando.

God New York wished he had more time to prepare him.

"You ready?" New York asked taking DC's hand. DC nodded, and New York led him up the steps to the main streets above, right in the heart of New York City. New York turned around to check on DC and found his boyfriend just looking up, mouth wide open and eyes wide at everything around him.

"Well...whatcha think?" New York asked.

"Yorkie....it's beautiful." DC whispered and New York could see the lights from the buildings and billboards reflecting in DC's wide eyes. The northeastern state half-smiled and tugged on DC's hand.

"C'mon, I can get you one of those pretzels ya love so much before we have to deliver the papers."

"It was three dollars last week!"

"You ordered two! Six!"

"You're just price gouging!"

DC glanced around him as his boyfriend and the pretzel stand clerk argued about the price of the pretzels. He hadn't been making it easy for New York ever since they went looking for food; New York was hoping to just go straight for a cart but DC had been dragging him all over, pointing at the billboards and large lights, taking pictures of everything he could think of, and being a mesmerized child being let out of their house for the first time. Luckily after DC nearly pissed off an Elmo charging people for pictures in the center of Times Square, New York was able to drag him away to finally look for a pretzel stand, under strict instructions to just please stay here.

The fed glanced around again as New York and the clerk continued to scream at each other, eyes falling on a woman who was selling small trinkets on the corner. With a smile, DC wandered away, just as New York took out his wallet.

"Fine, take your six dollars!" New York yelled, tossing the money at the clerk.

"Hey fuck you!"

"Fuck you too, pal!" New York grabbed both pretzels and turned around, ready to hand his boyfriend his.

He froze when he saw just a crowd of strangers, and no DC.

"Cherry?" New York gently called, walking into the crowd. Nothing, no one turned around, no one bounded over to him excited, nothing. New York felt fear creep into his chest.

"Dee? Dee!" New York yelled, trying to shout over the noise of music, car horns, and people talking. His throat had gone completely dry, his other boyfriends would never forgive him if they found out he lost DC, and IDC? He shuddered to think of her wrath.

"DC!" New York screamed, going into full panic mode, breaking into the crowd. He panted hard as he looked around the less-populated area, eyes falling on a familiar man in a dress shirt and pants (he couldn't get him to dress down for this) looking at a bunch of trinkets sitting on a table.

"CHERRY." New York sighed in relief before rushing over, DC glancing up and smiling.

"Yorkie look! It's one of those frogs that makes a noise if you scratch it's back." DC announced holding up said frog. New York smiled watery, panic subsiding for now as he looped his arm around DC's.

"You better not be thinking of buying that for Florida." New York said, kissing the side of DC's head, as he let his boyfriend talk about everything he found.

DC's feet hurt, he was so full of cookies and sweets from various bakeries he felt like he was going to explode, and he was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open.

But he was happy.

He kept his head on New York's chest as the two took the train ride home, finally after all the adventure of the day delivering the papers he had to drop off. DC dragged New York into shop after shop, probably blowing half his paycheck on useless crap, but feeling happier then he had in weeks whenever New York gave him a smile or led him through a crowd, his hand firmly holding his.

DC had a good day.

"Whatcha think cherry?" New York whispered.

"It was...more than I ever dreamed...." DC mumbled.

"Maybe next time, I'll take you all when it's Thanksgiving and we can see the parade." New York explained kissing the top of DC's head. DC made an agreement noise as he buried his face deep in New York's shirt.

"And during Christmas it's even more spectacular." New York added.

"Yorkie?" DC muttered and New York looked down to see a pair of big brown eyes staring at him.

"I love you." DC whispered leaning forward and kissing New York. New York could take the sweetness of the butter from DC's pretzel on his tongue, as well as various sweets, and bitter coffee.

"I love you too." New York whispered back as DC drew back and snuggled back into his chest. New York brought him closer against him as he leaned his head back, letting himself fall asleep.

For all the chaos today had brought, it'd been worth it just to see DC so happy.
