i just wanted an excuse tbh
DC flipped through his papers and groaned.
"I can't believe I lost that bill." DC moaned, tugging at his hair.
"You sure you didn't just give it to IDC?" Washington asked looking up from his own pile of papers, trying to help DC.
"No, because she's on a green kick lately and won't take anything that's not electronic." DC said with a sigh. "I have to be at the senate in ten minutes, where the hell did I put it?"
"Check your planner, maybe you wrote yourself a note." Washington offered. DC nodded and grabbed his leather bound planner off the desk. He started flipping through the pages looking for any sign of where he put the bill when he paused.
"That's odd." DC muttered.
"What is?" Washington asked looking up.
"I have nothing on the 6th." DC whispered showing the state his planner, revealing a blank page for the sixth of January. Washington looked up from his papers nervously as DC flipped between two pages.
"Yeah see, I've got something for the 5th and the 7th, but nothing on the 6th. That's odd-ah!" DC hissed grabbing the back of his head.
"DC?" Washington gasped, jumping up.
"No...I'm fine....just a headache." DC groaned. A few tense seconds passed before he let the back of his head go and look back at his planner.
"Must've not been an important day." DC said with a shrug closing the planner and putting it back on his desk.
"Yeah. Not important." Washington said with a weak smile before they continued to search for the bill.
Two days later, DC was having coffee out in the kitchen with Massachusetts and Louisiana when he suddenly snapped.
"THE COUNTING." DC yelled.
"That's an odd way to say Pats are going to win the superbowl." Massachusetts muttered.
"No! The other day, my planner was completely empty on the 6th, which is really weird unless one you just clear my schedule because 'I need to rest'." DC explained, glancing at his boyfriend.
"It's true sha." Louisiana said with a smile.
"But the 6th was the counting! The senate and congress counted the votes!" DC pointed out. His smile dropped when he saw the faces of his boyfriend's brother and boyfriend stare at him with a mixture of shock and sadness on their faces.
"What?"
"Do you...." Massachusetts swallowed. "Remember the counting?"
"Y'know what....I don't." DC muttered picking up his coffee mug. "I remember....oh yeah IDC was yelling at me because I picked my old red tie and not the one Texas got me for Christmas. Then nothing." Louisiana watched his boyfriend take a sip of his coffee then swallow.
"God I hope I didn't fall asleep, that'd be awfully shitty of me.....OH NOT AGAIN." DC yelled clutching the back of his head. Massachusetts and Louisiana both jumped up as DC hissed through the pain.
"Careful sha, careful. Sit down now. You know you shouldn't be drinking all this coffee." Louisiana whispered as Massachusetts took the mug out of DC's hand.
"God these headaches are weird." DC muttered as Louisiana made him sit down. "Almost as weird as Dia actually losing his voice...."
"I heard that!" came a weak reply from the living room as Florida looked over the couch and glared at his boyfriend.
"Just settle down, I'll go get you some ibuprofen." Massachusetts offered rushing over to the cabinet.
"I think you're thinking too hard about the vote sha." Louisiana pointed out as DC sighed.
"Yeah you're right." DC mumbled. "But god I hope I didn't fall asleep."
"We've got a lunch meeting at two with Cruz and Collins."
"God them? They always pick the cheapest places." DC moaned.
"Dee, we're not going there just to eat." IDC pointed out rolling her eyes at her brother.
"But it'd make things better." DC pointed out.
"Whatever. Oh and then you have a fitting for your suit for the inauguration, for the love of God I showed you what color my dress is, make sure you don't pick the same color tie so we match." IDC begged.
"If you'd just let Cali help me, I wouldn't have this problem." DC argued. IDC rolled her eyes again and was about to leave when DC called for her again.
"Hey Jenny? What happened on the sixth?" DC asked. IDC froze and slowly turned back to her brother.
"W-What do you mean?" IDC asked.
"I mean something obviously happened. We have to go through checkpoints to get into our office, there's the goddamn military outside, but I remember nothing. Don't tell me I slept through it." DC begged. IDC bit her lip and looked down at her iPad.
The call came too late to evacuate.
Of course looking back, it wasn't surprising that they got the call late to evacuate their building considering the work that was being done at the Capitol. Still, several of the protestors were already at the door when the call came through to evacuate, leaving most of the employees trapped.
"Dee I'm not doing this." IDC said nervously carrying most of her bags and items on her arms as everyone dashed around her.
"No it's easy! Florida's probably already calling for me, you answer the call and get out of here first." DC begged. IDC wondered why her brother wasn't halfway to meltdown, but she suspected he was running on adrenaline trying to get the employees and his sister out.
"I'm not leaving you here, George." IDC announced.
"Jenny you need to do this." DC said in a firm voice. Before IDC could respond, DC suddenly grabbed her arms tightly and tossed her to the side.
"JENNY RUN." DC screamed as a protestor advanced on them. IDC turned just in time to see the protester hit DC with the barrel of his gun, the barrel connecting and making a sickening smacking noise against DC's head, and sending him to the ground.
"GEORGE." IDC screamed dashing over and collecting her brother in her arms. Before the protestor could hit IDC, he was suddenly hit and sent to the ground by Washington.
"YEAH. Them's classes are really paying off--what the hell happened to DC?" Washington yelled. IDC just kept begging DC softly to wake up, hating the scared, far-away look in his eyes like he was frozen in time before he got hit, blood from his head dripping onto her favorite Channel skirt, and a trickle of blood falling out his mouth. Before Washington could go over to the pair of twins, the protester got up, kicked Washington's feet from under him, and sent him to the ground. The protester slowly advanced on the pair, IDC hugging DC's body close to her and closing her eyes. Maybe the man would be kind and kill her first, then at least she'd go out protecting her brother.
Suddenly, without warning, IDC fell onto a hard surface, groaning as she picked her head up as she tried to get her bearings. She recognized the room, she recognized the garbled screaming coming from the living room.
"Dee, Dee we're at the Statehouse!" IDC gasped. DC didn't respond, he was still knocked out and bleeding.
"Dee! Dee please speak to me!" IDC begged, ears perking up to someone saying 'I heard something in the meeting room' before the door ripped open and the states stood in the doorway.
"DC!" Louisiana and Texas yelled approaching the twins along with the other states, and their three other boyfriends.
"What happened? Why is he bleeding?" California asked as Louisiana helped IDC off the table.
"A....A protester....he...he was trying to save...please you have to help him!" DC begged.
"I'm sorry! I tried calling him as loud as I could!" Florida announced, voice shot and eyes red from crying.
"No one is blaming you sha, don't worry." Louisiana whispered kissing Florida's head.
"I need the first aid kit in the kitchen, we have to stop the bleeding before we take him to the hospital." Texas announced studying the damage. Colorado dashed out of the meeting room just as IDC climbed back on the table.
"George? George, it's me, Jenny. Please, we need you to wake up." IDC begged taking DC's bloody hand. DC didn't respond as Colorado returned with the first aid kit and handed it to Texas.
"I'm going to call 911, IDC you need to get cleaned up." New York said gently, trying to pry his boyfriend's sister off the table.
"NO! George needs to wake up!" IDC cried, ripping her arm away. She looked back at her brother as Texas worked, joined by, surprisingly, Oklahoma, as they bandaged the damage they could.
"Please you need to wake up!" IDC cried. Florida buried his face in Louisiana's shirt as he struggled not to cry, New York tried to desperately pull IDC away to no avail, Texas muttered 'don't you die on me sugar, or I'll kill you myself' to DC, and California just let himself full out cry into Colorado's shoulder.
"I can't do this without you! I'm not being the only government!" IDC cried. "Please wake up! PLEASE."
"A bomb threat." IDC announced. "There was a bomb threat. And you slept through it."
"DAMN." DC yelled, kicking the ground before rubbing his head. "Is that what this headache is from?"
"You panicked after when I woke you up and hit your head against the coat rack, I told you to move that thing." IDC pointed out.
"Blah, blah, blah." DC mocked. "Don't you have somewhere to whine?" IDC threw a crumpled piece of paper at her brother, who ducked, and the older twin walked off.
"I can't believe I slept through a bomb threat." IDC heard DC mumbled as she got out of his office. IDC closed the door behind her, let all her items drop to the floor, covered her eyes and slid to the ground, finally allowing herself to cry.
DC walked through one of the many checkpoints later that day, happy and thankfully his three days in Washington were up and he could go home. He was thankful he suspended the meetings until after the inauguration, he didn't want to have to deal with that and Florida's shenanigans at the same time. DC showed his badge to one of the national guards who nodded and opened the next gate, this one leading to the 'outside world' as Washington called it. DC stepped through before turning back and looking at the Capitol, hidden behind several metal gates.
"All this for a bomb threat, huh?" DC muttered before shrugging and walking off, ready for another four days of rest back in Orlando with his boyfriends.
