Easter 3

Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny. Florida blinked as the sunlight hit his eyes and he picked his head up groggily, trying to remember where he was and more importantly, what day it was. He glanced over at the sleeping form of his boyfriend, who was face down on the pillows snoring away, and smiled. The peninsula leaned in to kiss DC's cheek before realization hit him.

It was Easter.

Faster than you could say 'white claw', Florida tumbled out of bed in a mess of sheets, immediately jumping up and cheeking to make sure DC hadn't woken up from the thump. DC still slumbered away, making Florida sigh in relief before hurrying up to wake up the rest of his boyfriends and states.

About an hour later, DC picked his head up from the pillow briefly and smiled in his sleep as the smell of breakfast cooking floated through the door. He nuzzled his head back into the pillow for a few extra z's when he felt someone shake him gently.

"Rosie? Rosie, wake up it's Easter." California whispered. DC cracked his eyes open slightly and smiled softly.

"Is that today?" DC mumbled yawning. "Alright then, happy Easter I guess."

"C'mon, Tennessee made breakfast." California said softly, kissing DC's cheek. DC grinned sleepily before forcing himself up.

"Lead the way."

DC finished his coffee and sat back in his chair.

"You cook a mean egg, Tennessee." DC announced.

"It's like my mama always said, you can always improve something with the right amount of spice." Tennessee said with a smile putting the pan in the sink. DC put his mug down and checked his watch.

"Ah shit, I need to get to work." DC muttered, jumping up. He felt himself getting pulled back down in his chair.

"Sugar, it's Sunday and Easter. You're not working today." Texas announced.

"But those reports, I need to get them to IDC." DC pointed out.

"Nope, it's Easter, and you need to actually celebrate a holiday." Florida announced taking his boyfriend's hand. DC groaned as Louisiana grabbed his coffee mug to refill, and ran a hand down his face.

"I should've never told you what my dad said." DC muttered.

"Well ya did, and now we're making you have your first Easter." Florida said with a chaotic grin.

"We talked him out of the bunny suit sha, be thankful for small miracles." Louisiana whispered, putting DC's coffee mug down in front of him. DC sighed and took a sip of his coffee, the urge to fight his boyfriends and continue what was hammered into him since fighting against the urge to just have fun battled in his head.

They'd probably give up about midday and he could get back to work.

DC finished tying his tie and smoothed down his shirt. He had been kicked out of the kitchen and couldn't go out into the backyard so he'd been resigned to his room and the living room for now. He really just wanted to go back to work, but so far he hadn't been even allowed to touch his phone, and he was becoming stressed out at not knowing what's going on.

"Have fun, this is your first Easter. You deserve this." One side of his brain said.

"Holiday's are frivolous wastes of time, you're the United States government, get back to work." His father's voice ordered on the other side.

"Dee! Your sister is here!" Florida called out from the living room, making DC pause. They didn't call her did they? Didn't the international branch usually do a brunch for Easter? DC continued to adjust his tie as he made his way out of the room, ears perking up at the arguments in the backyard and the smell of something cooking from the kitchen. He rounded the corner to the doorway, and saw his sister standing in the doorway taking off her jacket. IDC had on a white lace dress with ruffles on the skirt and cinched lace sleeves, and the trimmings on the sleeves and some of the ruffles were light blue.

In other words, the twins were matching.

"I'm changing." DC muttered turning on his heel.

"Oh stop." IDC ordered grabbing her brother's hand. "We never got a chance to do this as kids."

"Matching? I'm pretty sure we did. Every. Inauguration. Ball." DC pointed out.

"You know what I mean." IDC teased as Massachusetts popped up behind her.

"DC, let's go kid we're starting the egg hunt soon." Massachusetts announced before leaving again. DC gave his sister a confused look, which made IDC snicker.

"C'mon, you'll see." IDC said giggling and leading her brother outside. The bright sunshine hit DC's eyes as he struggled to focus where his sister was leading him. He became aware of Connecticut and Texas yelling at each other in the middle of the yard while the rest of the states lulled around, either holding pastel baskets or standing around the small pile by the deck.

"So we're just hunting eggs?" DC asked as the twins got down to the yard.

"Here DC, take the basket, when we start you'll look around for these eggs." New York announced handing his boyfriend a basket and showing him a yellow plastic egg.

"Yeah, and I'm going to collect more than Loui!" Florida announced.

"Oh you wish, sha." Louisiana said with a smirk.

"So that's it, we're looking for plastic eggs?" DC asked. New York smirked and handed his boyfriend the egg.

"Open it." New York ordered. DC took the egg and opened it; suddenly his eyes went wide and he looked up at New York with childish wonder in his eyes.

"There's candy?" DC whispered.

"Every egg." New York smirked patting DC's cheek. DC grinned and downed the jellybeans in the egg before putting it in his basket.

"Alright, let's get this started." Texas yelled effectively ending the argument with Connecticut. "Remember, no tackling, punching, or funny business."

"You're going DOWN Loui." Florida yelled.

"Wait what are we doing?" Colorado asked, dazed, sitting in the middle of the yard with a bag of candy.

"GO." Texas yelled and instantly the states descended on the yard, pushing and screaming as they began to hunt. DC avoided the large crowd of fighting states, and actually began looking with IDC following behind. He pushed aside one of the large bushes separating the yard from the swamp and gasped.

"I FOUND TWO!" DC yelled.

"Take 'em Dee, before someone else does." IDC encouraged.

"But....someone else may want the other one." DC whispered. IDC sighed, this was typical of her twin, always thinking of others.

"IDC is right, sugar. Take 'em. We've got plenty." Texas encouraged going next to his boyfriend and patting him on the shoulder. With a nod, DC grabbed both plastic eggs and put them in his basket grinning all the way.

"How do you feel Dee?" IDC asked. DC looked at his eggs before grinning at his sister.

"Like I'm two ahead of you." DC announced before dashing off, ready to fight his other boyfriends and states for the eggs.

A little while later, the egg hunt had mostly calmed down. Each state had their own small pile of eggs and were counting their stash, and attempting to trade with one another.

"I'll give you." IDC announced sitting on the deck with her brother because she didn't want to get grass stains on her dress. "A mini Snickers for one of your Peeps."

"A Snicker for Peeps? No thanks." DC said, mouthful of candy as he ate most of his stash. He had done pretty well for his first Easter egg hunt ever; the fed never noticed along the way, his boyfriends secretly either helped guide him to the eggs or put a couple of their eggs in his basket.

"Oh fine." IDC said, rolling her eyes. "Jelly Beans." DC stopped chewing, before handing over a green egg.

"Deal."

"You got quite a haul there sha." Louisiana announced coming up to the deck with Florida. Both were covered in grass stains, dirty, and their faces were red after being in a fight over the eggs most of the hunt.

"I'm the government. I'm good at finding things." DC said proudly, popping the Peep in his mouth.

"OOH we need a picture of you two for the album." Florida suggested.

"....Since when do we have an album?"

"Since now. Get together." Florida ordered taking out his phone.

"C'mon Dee, we never got to do this as kids together." IDC pointed out. DC sighed and stood up, before helping his sister up. The two stood together, looking just as they did when they were kids as Florida snapped the picture. Matching, trying to fit together, slightly disheveled from when they first were dressed that morning, and smiling. Only difference was now DC towered over IDC and, most importantly, they were both enjoying the holiday.
