Star Cross'd Lovers

Gov quickly trudged down the hallway of his office building, panicked and tapped his folders at a rapid pace.

He was late, he was so freakin' late.

It was Washington's fault; he had to go to a Zoom meeting about some weapons development and asked the state to tell him when it was time for the senate meeting when it got close. But either Washington was too occupied with his allergies or Oregon because he never told him until three meetings before the senate was to meet.

If he could kill him, he would.

Gov hurried along the hall, trying to push through interns and other politicians on his way down to the chambers. DC would never stop teasing him about this, nevermind the fact that he was always late to these things. The government hurried down the massive stairs, clutching the folders close to his body, before feeling his shoe catching, catching himself on the banister but spilling his folders on the stairs.

"SON OF A BITCH." Gov screamed, bending down to pick up his spilled papers. He was paying no mind to which papers went in which folder, and didn't glance up at a pair of feet stopped in front of him.

"Lemme help!" said a cheerful voice. Gov rolled his eyes, it sounded like another young intern eager to get ahead by rubbing shoulders with the politicians.

"No, no I got this." Gov muttered, collecting the papers faster. The two's hands touched at the same folder and they glanced up meeting eye-to-eye for the first time.

Gov's breath stopped.

In front of him was the handsomest young man he had ever seen; he had light brown hair unstyled and messy, and the brightest forest green eyes he'd ever seen.

"Hi." Gov whispered.

"Hi!" The young man greeted with a bright smile.

"ADAM." Gov's head snapped up; outside of the senate chamber were all the senators gathered by the doors, DC and IDC at the edge. Gov quickly grabbed the last of the folders and hurried down the stairs, joining his cousins.

"Why are we out here?" Gov panted, looking back at the stairs and feeling disappointed when he saw the young man was gone.

"Oh Hawley is throwing a fit, we're in recess." IDC said with a sigh.

"Shame, it was just getting good." DC snickered adjusting his tie. Gov nodded and adjusted the folders in his arms when he heard someone calling from the crowd.

"Hey, hey!" Gov turned and saw the young man, standing on the edge of the crowd of senators. He turned and made sure the twins were occupied before slipping away, keeping his back to the young man to not look suspicious.

"I didn't catch your name." Gov whispered.

"Austin." The young man announced.

"Adam." Gov whispered back, not wanting to freak Austin out with his title. "You a new intern?"

"Nah, I'm here with my cousin visiting his partner!" Austin announced. Gov glanced back at his cousins to make sure they were still occupied, before gesturing with his head for Austin to follow him out of the crowd. The two met up again at the elevators, finally free to talk face-to-face. Gov couldn't stop looking into Austin's eyes, feeling himself getting lost in them.

"I....I hope this isn't too sudden." Gov said. "But I love your eyes."

"Thank you!" Austin said, breaking out into a smile, making Gov's heart stop.

"Gov?" Gov heard DC call, and he panicked. He hit the up button for the elevator and once the doors opened, pushed Austin inside and immediately shut the doors.

"This is exciting." Austin said with a smile as the elevator started going up. Gov couldn't help himself, he leaned in and kissed Austin on the lips. The two stood kissing for a solid minute before breaking apart, panting.

"I'm....I'm sorry...." Gov panted. Austin didn't say a word, but stood on his tip-toes and kissed Gov again. The two kissed slowly, holding their bodies close to one another. They finally broke apart as the elevator reached the floor.

"That....that was amazing..." Austin whispered.

"You're a really good kisser." Gov smiled. The two separated as the door opened and DC glanced up from his phone.

"There you are!" DC gasped. "IDC's about to blow a gasket let's go!" DC yelled, pulling his cousin out. Austin quickly followed the two to the banister, where he watched them run down the stairs and rejoin the group, and that's when his heart stopped. Gov and DC joined IDC in the sea of politicians as the doors to the chambers were opened once again.

"Is....is he Gov?" Austin whispered.

"There you are!" Austin jumped as his cousin appeared next to him.

"What'd I tell you about running off like that?" Texas scolded. Gov glanced up to the second floor where Austin stood, watching Texas scold him. That was odd, why would Texas be talking to a random.....

No.

Austin wasn't just his name, he was the city of Austin.

"C'mon, sugar gave me his badge, we can have free run of the cafeteria." Texas announced, pulling his cousin away. Gov watched them go sadly as he felt pushed further and further into the chambers.

Why did he have to be a city?
