Serenity
"Keep digging....there you go a little deeper....no wait too deep!"
Kentucky quickly grabbed his babies hands and moved them away from the gaping hole on the shoreline of the beach. IDC looked back at her dad, back at the hole, then back at her dad again giggling.
"Oh is it funny?" Kentucky teased poking his daughter's nose, getting a bit of wet sand on the tip. He grabbed his daughter and began tickling her, getting her in the wet sand and getting her dress all dirty.
"Tucky careful she'll need a bath!" Georgia called from the dryer sand, sitting on a blanket with a small boy next to him sleeping. Kentucky paid no attention, however, and continued to tickle IDC, whose giggles floated over the lapping waves and the occasional wave. Georgia smiled, then looked down at a small whimper, and a tiny head picking up.
"Oh DeeDee what's the matter?" Georgia asked as DC picked himself up and crashed into his chest, letting out more whimpers.
"Oh love, did you have a nightmare?" Georgia asked, rocking DC back and forth to soothe his cries. DC was so small, smaller than his sister, and there were worries he didn't get enough care in his early life that he wouldn't live to see his first birthday.
Kentucky and Georgia said, watch us.
"Alright, alright." Kentucky said with a laugh, putting IDC back on her feet. "C'mon, let's see if we have any down here." IDC nodded and knelt again, digging through the wet sand that had gathered while in the tickle fight. Georgia watched his boyfriend and daughter work...daughter. That was weird to say. Realistically, they were only chosen to keep IDC and DC alive and well until they were five, and then they could be taken off their hands, but they'd already bonded so hard with the twins they didn't think they could let them go in five years time. Or any time.
"Here we go DeeDee...." Georgia whispered, pulling a tiny bottle out of his knapsack and a spoon. He poured a little milk on the spoon and held it to DC, who early took the spoonful then gazed up at his dad with his big brown eyes, asking for more. Georgia chuckled and poured more in the spook, and fed it to DC just as a yell came from the shoreline.
"WE FOUND TWO!" Kentucky cheered holding up two clams. He turned to Georgia and smiled, waving the two clams at him. "Look love! Dinner!"
"That's great Tuck--TUCKY LOOK WHAT IDC HAS." Georgia yelled pointing back. Kentucky whipped back around and yelled. IDC held up, proudly, a crab, grinning.
"Honey....honey I'm going to put the bucket in front of you....just drop it in." Kntucky said slowly, putting the clams in said bucket then moving it in front of his daughter. IDC obeyed and unceremoniously dropped the crab in as well, still grinning. Kentucky breathed a sigh of relief and turned back to Georgia, who had just taken to cuddle DC close to his chest.
They were going to have to watch out for her.
Kentucky took the bucket, then picked up the baby, and walked back to where his boyfriend and son sat.
"How's he doing?" Kentucky asked letting IDC fall and toddle over to her brother. IDC poked at her brother's arm, which made him bat her away, and then she held his hand.
"Little scared of a nightmare but he's alright." Georgia smiled as Kentucky sat down next to him. He looped an arm around his boyfriend's shoulders, bringing him in close, then took DC and put him on his lap as Georgia took IDC and put her on his lap. The beach was silent again, as the sun slowly started to touch the tips of the trees across from the couple. Georgia looked down at IDC who was becoming fascinated with her tiny fingers, then over at Kentucky who was also distracted by DC who had fallen back asleep.
"We're not giving them back in five years are we?" Georgia asked. Kentucky looked back up again and stared straight ahead, a hardness to his face.
"Nope."
