Family

Their routine becomes so different once the twins enter their lives.

DC tends to get up with Kentucky at five am when the older man gets ready to go to work. He'll climb on Kentucky and Georgia and go over to Kentucky, and poke his face whispering 'Papa, papa it's time to wake up!'

Who needs an alarm clock?

Kentucky doesn't get him ready, since DC will fall back asleep anyway once he's gone, but he does humor him. He lets him have the same cereal he eats and DC will stare in wonder as Kentucky pours his coffee and 'no Dee you can't have any you're too young' but he'll pour his orange juice in a little mug so he can drink his 'coffee' like his papa and then give him the comics of the newspaper so he can read his paper like a big boy, pretending he knows the words.

Goodbyes are always the worst when Kentucky tucks him back into his big boy bed, and DC begs him not to go to work but he hushes him and tells him to go back to bed, and he'll talk in a quiet voice until DC finally falls back asleep and Kentucky can head to work.

IDC always wakes up first, especially if she got an idea in her head when she first fell asleep. She'll run into the kitchen and pull out all the bowls then ingredients and by the time Georgia gets up, she and DC are attempting to make pancakes at the stove. Instead of yelling, Georgia shakes his head, has the twins help him clean up, then makes real pancakes while they watch their shows on the TV, strange little cartoons that Kentucky calls 'brainwashing machines'. It keeps them quiet, enough for Georgia to finish breakfast then sit them down for it. IDC doesn't want her strawberries and DC cries when his syrup touches his pancakes and Georgia manages to get her to eat two and dries DC's tears convincing him that soggy pancakes were good.

Their daycare teacher mentioned something about testing, listed off a bunch of conditions DC could have. Kentucky is insistent nothing is wrong.

Getting the twins dressed is always a challenge; IDC wants to wear her princess outfit and DC insists on dressing himself. In the end IDC settles for a 'Mulan' look-alike dress and DC has on an Atlanta Brave shirt with a Wild Cats hat.

Georgia doesn't spend too much time at drop off at daycare; IDC struts in with pride while DC nervously hangs back waiting for his friends. Once he spots them, Georgia swears their names are Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana, and New York but he really doesn't know, he grins and dashes off to greet them. Georgia thinks of a time when DC won't cling to him or IDC will beg him to stay until the bell rings and shakes his head, declaring he'd cross that bridge when he comes to it.

The house is too quiet when Georgia comes home and he doesn't like it; weekends are so much better, so much livelier. Kentucky likes fixing his cars and letting the twins 'help', the pair becoming so messy that Georgia's ready to tear his hair out. IDC will have one of her big ideas that usually involves baking, or force DC to play dress up with her, not that the little boy minds. Kentucky loves seeing his children all dressed up and will take a million pictures of them, filling up his phone and storage. If there's a game, Kentucky will sit and scream at the TV and DC, desperate to impersonate his papa, will scream everything he says.

The daycare teacher had to have a word with the pair about some of DC's colorful language.

Georgia will clean the house, then settle for a day of leisure but mostly missing his husband and the twins. Sometimes Kentucky will call and show off a new car they were fixing up at the shop or Georgia will facetime North Carolina and 'no North it's fine, Kentucky's a good provider, stop it North'. In no time at all it's time to pick up the twins and Georgia can't be more excited to get to the school. IDC details her entire day down to the letter while DC quietly explains that Texas punched another little boy for him and the teacher was concerned that he couldn't stay still.

The word 'testing' hangs in the air.

The weird kids cartoons come back on when they get home and IDC and DC dump a load of toys on the floor. Georgia prepares dinner when the front door is thrown open.

"DADDY'S HOME!" Kentucky yells and the twins squeal and run into his arms, crawling all over him until Georgia shoos them off, and with a quick kiss tells him to go take a shower.

Kentucky watches wide eyed at some of the bad cartoons playing in front of him as IDC tries to explain the entire plot of Frozen to him and DC sits on his lap clapping happily to the song. He's never more grateful for dinner to be called; Georgia remembered to put DC's dinner in the plate where nothing touches and put IDC's vegetables in a smiley face.

"Tucky. Ms. Mocha is asking for the papers so they can have DC tested." Georgia will whisper.

"Yeah, yeah I'll get to it." Kentucky muttered, cutting up IDC's chicken and telling DC not to wave his fork around.

Bedtime is right after dinner and as usual the twins don't want to go to bed despite the fact that they can hardly stay up. They keep up the routine as the twins continue to fall asleep and by the time they're tucked in both young children are asleep. DC has his little bunny rabbit snuggled in his arms, and IDC has her pink blanket that Georgia crotched for her last Christmas....well his mother did it after Georgia got so aggravated he was ready to burn the thing.

Kentucky and Georgia get to spend a little time together once the twins go to bed, but they're often too tired to really stay up long. Georgia will put his head on Kentucky's lap and Kentucky will try to stay awake to watch the game but they'll both end up trudging to bed no later past nine, exhausted from dealing with twin toddlers and working all day.

Their lives may of changed since taking home the twins, but they wouldn't trade those two bundles of joy for anything in this world.
