They Are Our Legacy
IDC approached the bed carefully, trying not to spook the state.
"How ya doing Florida?" IDC asked.
"I shouldn't be here." Florida grumped tugging at his clothes.
"Well we're glad we found you, you know your bail was five hundred dollars?" Gov asked. IDC turned and gave him a piercing glare.
"WELL IT WAS."
"Ignoring him, Florida." IDC said with a sigh. "We're glad to have you back...."
"I don't want to be back, I want to be free." Florida hissed.
"No, Florida you can't. You had a self-destructive streak and you need help." IDC pointed out.
"Florida, did Ontario say something to you guys before you left?" Gov asked, and Florida's eyes went wide almost confirming his worst suspicions.
"I don't have time for this." Florida muttered attempting to get up.
"No, you're staying." IDC ordered forcing the state down.
"Let me GO." Florida yelled.
"NO. We need to help you!" IDC yelled, struggling to hold the small state down. Massachusetts and Georgia heard the international governments weak cry and dashed into the room, helping her keep Florida down.
"Don't you see? I don't want to be here anymore!" Florida cried.
"Causing chaos ain't the way to go!" Massachusetts pointed out.
"Don't you see how much this hurt DC?" IDC finally yelled, tears springing to her eyes. "If you all didn't want to be with him anymore why didn't you just BREAK UP with him?"
"BECAUSE I DO WANT TO BE WITH HIM." Florida screamed, beginning to cry on his own, finally stopping resisting.
"You sure have a funny way of showing it." Gov muttered.
"I want to be with him! I want him! Do you know how it's been falling asleep in random places, dreaming you were still in his arms, and then waking up in some gutter or in an empty club? Do you know how bad this has hurt?" Florida yelled.
"Then go back." IDC hissed.
"We....we can't. We've hurt him." Florida whispered.
"Trust us, he wants you back, he'll forgive you in a snap." Gov pointed out.
"Quiet suit!" Florida ordered making Gov step back in shock. He put his head down again. "We lied to him." Silence fell in the room again, and IDC felt comfortable sitting back on the bed.
"Is this about....the numbers?" IDC whispered. Florida nodded.
"HEY ONTARIO." Ontario rolled his eyes and turned around to face the angry state approaching him. He really wasn't in any mood; DC wasn't talking to him after the incident at his house, Canada was bugging him about coming back, and he was slowly feeling the walls close in.
"Explain to me how these got in your bag?" Washington yelled, waving some folders in front of his face.
"You went through my bag? That's highly unprofessional." Ontario pointed out.
"Quit the bullshit, how did the COVID numbers get in your bag?" Washington demanded.
"Well....you left the desk drawer with them open, what was I supposed to do?" Ontario said with a shrug.
"You bastard. It was you, wasn't it, who made DC's partners leave." Washington whispered horrified.
"I didn't make them leave, I showed them the truth." Ontario pointed out. He put his hands on Washington's shoulders and slowly backed them up.
"But really, you really need to get a lock on that drawer, once I had Newfoundland go through my stuff it was not pleasant." Ontario announced.
"Once Gov and IDC get back, I'm showing them this. You'll never be welcome back in this country again." Washington hissed.
"Oh I'm pretty sure I am." Ontario said with a smirk before showing Washington into an office, slamming the door then locking it. He turned on his heel and stormed off, head beating over his next step. He knew he should just give up and go back to Canada before he got into more trouble, but he swore he wasn't leaving without DC. The Canadian province had one more trick up his sleeve, and he hoped to God it worked.
"Ontario found our real COVID numbers and threatened to tell Dee. We had to leave before DC found out we were liars." Florida whimpered.
"That BASTARD. I'm going to KILL HIM." Gov yelled.
"Gov calm down..."
"NO. How can I calm down when he's wrecked my cousin's relationship? Over what?" Gov pointed out.
"He never thought we were of his stature he always....he always said DC could do better." Florida whimpered.
"We're here now, Flo, and we'll take care of Ontario but right now we need to get all five of you back to DC." IDC pointed out.
"But the numbers..."
"He knows, peaches." Georgia pointed out. "He probably knows your numbers are bad. Do you really think he would've dumped you if he found out you were smudging them? It's not like we haven't been lying for a year." Florida bowed his head.
"You're right."
"But we still can't find the other four." Gov said with a groan. "Austin is coming up short, we have no clues where Louisiana is."
"I know where Loui is." Florida announced. He looked up at everyone's shocked faces.
"Call Shark Tank bar in New Orleans, that's where he's been drowning his sorrows for the past two weeks." Florida ordered.
"I can bug Coco about California, it'll take some extra 'goodies' but I can get it out of him." Georgia suggested.
"And me and Cut have one more place we can check to get New York." Massachusetts announced. "It's a long shot but if he's anywhere, he's there."
"Get moving on that, I'll call the bar, Gov you need to push Austin." IDC ordered.
"I'll do my best." Gov said before hurrying out of the room. IDC looked at the sad shape of Florida and squeezed his shoulder gently.
"Don't worry Flo, we'll get them." IDC whispered before whipping out her phone.
Ontario walked into the small kitchen of the government building, staring at the box of doughnuts sitting on the counter. There was one he knew DC would want, and, after making sure no one was around, made his way towards it. He dug into his pocket and pulled out a small vial; it took a lot out of Quebec to get this, and he was going to have to give him half his salary for the next two years, but it was worth it. Ontario unplugged the vial, sprinkled some of the dust in his hand, and sprinkled it carefully over the doughnut, making sure none got on the surrounding ones. He sat back, smiling at his work, before hearing voices outside of the kitchen, and scurried off.
"Look Mr. Kelly, Jamie went out and got doughnuts for everyone." An intern announced entering the kitchen with a tired looking DC.
"Oh. Oh they do look good." DC whispered. He walked over to the box, studied each doughnut before taking one from the middle, and taking a huge bite.
"SNICKERS. Alright they do know me." DC said with a grin and a mouthful of doughnut, momentarily pleased, before leaving the kitchen. Ontario watched him go from the end of the hall, smirking as he walked off.
The plan was underfoot.
"LET ME OUT."
"Okay, okay Washington geez." An intern muttered, digging through her keys then unlocking the office door. Washington came stumbling out of the office, panting hard and looking feverishly around.
"Where's Ontario?" Washington demanded.
"I thought he went back to Canada." The intern pointed out.
"No, he's still here, and he's going to do something to DC I know it!" Washington yelled before dashing off. DC was working in his office, trying to stay focused on the papers in front of him and not the underlying sadness he felt inside when a knock came at his door frame making him look up.
He dropped his pencil.
"DIA?" DC gasped jumping up.
"Ya miss me?" Florida asked, spreading his arms open.
"DIA! I can't believe--" DC dashed around his desk and into Florida's arms, holding him tight.
"You can't keep a chaos monkey down!" Florida pointed out smiling.
"Holy shit, I can't believe it, I missed you all so much--did you get taller?" DC teased, surprised he was looking up at his smallest boyfriend.
"What can I say? Time away did me good." Florida said laughing. DC smiled and leaned up to kiss Florida on the lips. The two kissed for a good minute, before DC came up for air.
"Where's the others?"
"Oh they're around, I just went ahead of them." Florida explained proudly as DC giggled.
"God always the chaotic one." DC said softly, putting his head on his chest.
"Chaos is undecided." Florida said proudly puffing his chest.
"DC." Washington shouted from the hallway, rounding the corner and running into DC's room. He froze at the scene in front of him.
"Washington look! Florida's back!" DC said with a cry looking up at his boyfriend happily. Washington starred, horrified, as Ontario smirked at him, holding DC tight in his arms.
"DC that's....that's not....."
"What do you mean Washington?" "Florida" asked, smirking proudly. "I'm Florida. And I have my boyfriend back."
