Titles Released 7-4-2018 A Disaster Of A Week For DC Comics

Hey everyone. Normally I'd be excited about comics for this week. But, this was truly a disaster on all fronts for DC comics this week. It was embarrassing actually and full of disappointment. From the storylines to the payoffs of certain events. It just sucked! So anyways, I'm going to let you know about the issues released this week as well as my thoughts on them.

Titles Released This Week:

Batman #50
Catwoman #1
(Dc Comics July Preview)
Deathstroke #33
Green Arrow #42
Green Lanterns #50
Harley Quinn #45
Injustice 2 #29
Justice League #3
Nightwing #46
Shade the Changing Woman #5
The Curse of Brimstone #4
The Man of Steel #6
The Unexpected #2

Titles I Picked Up This Week:

Batman #50:
Here's the issue everyone has been talking about. After so much build up and all the preludes. On top of the crazy amount of variant covers we got. This was supposed to be the big wedding between Batman and Catwoman..... Fans were excited, and so was I. However, that all changed when a few days before the issue came out the New York Times spoiled it, and guess what!? They Don't Fucking Get Married! What was the point of all that buildup? The wedding was the only thing keeping me interested in this Batman run which has not been all that great. Detective Comics was a lot better. It just amazes me how DC could fuck up an event this badly. The reason they don't get married is because Catwoman gets told by someone that Batman can't be happy and be Batman. What kind of crap is that? Superman is married and has a kid and guess what!? It's been the best thing to happen to that character in years. I loved reading issues of Superman where he was just being a father. Superman Rebirth was incredible. In fact, I want to go back and reread the whole run again. It just blows my mind that when it comes to Batman DC is so afraid to try something ballsy with him and experiment with him being happy for awhile. You know we don't always have to have a depressing Batman right? He can be happy for once.... Oh well... I guess that's only a pipe dream....

Catwoman #1
Set after the events of Batman issue 50. This issue showcases Selina in kind of a state of depression after seeing her wedding fall apart. Now, she's off on her own and has to fight a bunch of other Catwoman imposters. It's an ok issue. The artwork is nice, and I'll give it this. The issue was better than Batman #50.

Deathstroke #33
So in this continued trashy storyline. We see Damian refer to Slade as "Father" several times throughout the issue and each time I wanted to vomit further. However, by the end of the issue it seemed like Damian may have been playing Slade. I don't know the way it's written is never made clear. I can't stand this storyline. I just can't. It doesn't seem to acknowledge continuity at all and the characterization is all over the place. I don't think Priest should ever be allowed to write Damian since he seems so set on messing up his lineage. The only good things I'll say about this issue are the artwork and some of the banter Damian gives Slade when he doesn't call him father. Other than that I can't stand this storyline. I've just had enough with it already. I want to move on from this already so we can get back to some better Deathstroke storylines.

Green Arrow #42:
This was the end of a 2 part filler storyline with Green Arrow taking on Parasite and I had a lot of fun with it. This and the Nightwing Issue were two of the most enjoyable comics to come out this week. Well maybe Justice League...

Justice League #3:
Scott Snyder continues his run on Justice League and While the artwork is absolutely mesmerizing. There is a lot thrown at you in this storyline and I sometimes have trouble keeping up.  They introduced a new ring on the emotional spectrum which is cool. I feel like the Justice League is in good hands with Scott Snyder. So I'm gonna keep reading.

Nightwing #46:
The continued adventures of Dick Grayson, this time he's fighting this weird mind hacking tech villain. But, this time he's joined by Barbara Gordon! As far as this storyline goes it feels a bit preachy at times and nothing is all that surprising. However there are some nice touches to the issue. In fact this issue reminded me a lot of the movie They Live. I think my favorite part about all of this issue is still the interactions between Dick and Babs. Other than that it's a decent issue.

The Man of Steel #6
Ok so with this issue we finally learn the truth about what happened to Lois and Jon, and the explanation is still stupid. Also, they misspelled Damian Wayne's name.....

Ok, I don't like what Bendis is Doing here for several reasons. For one thing it feels like a cheap excuse to write Lois and Jon out of this book for awhile. Second, why in the hell would they trust Mr. Oz after the events of the Oz Effect storyline!? Lastly, we don't learn anything about Rogol Zaar as he is just thrown into the Phantom Zone. Like come on! I hope this isn't the last we see of that villain for awhile as We haven't even gotten a good grasp of why he is the way he is as a character..... oh well I hope this run on Superman ends up being good, because if it isn't that's going to suck considering he is writing both ongoing Superman titles. At least at the start of Rebirth I had two different writers I could go with. But, here I'm stuck with just one....

Well that's going to wrap it up for this week's issues. I'm a little late on writing this week. But, it's because I didn't have the money urge to update this thing. It just seemed like everywhere I turned there was something bad or disappointing. Here is hoping next week's issues are good..... 😢. Anyways, if you read anything leave your comments below and we can talk about it and stuff. Once again thank you for reading this. I hope you all have a Wonderful day.
