Analogical

Virgil paced in front of Logan's door. There were a million ways this  could go wrong, and really only one way it could go right.

Virgil  wanted to ask Logan out. The logical side had somehow managed to sneak  into Virgil's heart, and it kind of sucked. Anything Logan did made his  heart flutter and made his mind go blank. If Logan adjusted his glasses  or tie, flutter. If Logan insulted Princey, flutter. When Logan gave him a cup of coffee in the morning, flutter. If Logan said  Virgil's name or talked to him, flutter. Gosh forbid Logan smiled. Every time he did, Virgil had to resist the urge to double over and grip his chest.

Virgil  wasn't sure how the nerd had managed to steal his heart. If it was  Patton or Roman it would have made sense. Patton was kind, energetic, sensitive, and looked at Virgil like he wad the world. Roman was confident, romantic, and creative.

What  is Logan? Logan is... Logan is honest. Virgil could always count on Logan to  tell it how it is, even if it's not good. Logan is straightforward, he never had to guess what was going on with him. Logan is steadfast and  constant. Logan treats Virgil the same way he would treat anyone else.  Patton was especially gentle with Virgil, as if the slightest criticism  would break  him. Roman was the opposite. Logan would encourage any good  idea, and shoot any bad idea down without restraint. It doesn't matter who it comes from.

But Virgil felt special around Logan, as  if any glance sent towards him was especially for him. He felt that  Logan defending him from Princey's comments was more than trying to  redirect the conversation to a more productive topic. That Logan made an  effort to make Virgil heard. That Logan would never duck out on him if he didn't want him to. That Logan might like him as more than a  friend.

Finally, Virgil knocked. It wasn't  even thirty seconds before the door opened. Logan looked surprised to  see Virgil. The corners of his mouth turned up slightly, and he stood to  the side to grant Virgil access to his room.

"Virgil, come in."

He sounded almost happy to see Virgil. There had to be a reason, right?

Virgil went in and sat on the bed.

"You seem nervous, is something wrong? Would you prefer we go to your room?"

Virgil shook his head.

"I just, I guess I just wanted to see you."

Logan gave a large, genuine, shockingly radiant smile.

"You wanted to see me?"

His reaction was rather off-putting, and Virgil could feel himself freeze.

"Well, I just said that, didn't I?"

Logan nodded. "I suppose you did. What for?"

"I need to tell you something."

"Oh?"

"Well, you know I'm gay?"

Logan raised an eyebrow. "Of course, we all are. Thomas is gay, so naturally-"

"Yeah, well," Virgil interrupted, "what I mean to say is, I'm gay, and you're gay-"

"None of this is news to me, Virgil." Logan noted.

"I know, I just thought, maybe we could, I don't know, be gay together?"

Logan tilted his head in the most adorable way that really shouldn't be cute but totally was and Virgil could feel his face warming and Logan was surely going to notice and-

"My sincerest apologies Virgil, I'm not sure I know what you mean."

Virgil thought he might die, how on earth was he supposed to get the words out with Logan looking at him like that?

"We are both gay."

"Correct."

"We are both males."

"Unless there is something you'd like to share."

"Uh, no. We are both guys."

"If you're sure, then yes."

"I feel attracted towards you."

"I feel the same."

"I mean romantically, Lo."

Logan furrowed his brows. "I am aware. Although Newton had his theory of universal gravitation, that everything in the universe is attracted to everything else in the universe, I personally am for Einsteins theory of-"

"Geeze dude, I didn't think you were interpreting it scientifically, I just wanted to be sure you knew I like you as... as more than a friend."

There. He said it. That was the hard part, now he just needed to wait for Logans response. Logan opened and closed his mouth several times, furrowed his brows yet again, and seemed to be going through a train of thought that had flown off the rails.

Actually, Virgil decided that this was the hard part.

"Virgil, I'm afraid there may have been a miscommunication."

'I don't feel the same way.'

"I see you in a romantic light as well, however,"

'I would never want to be with you.'

"I was under the impression we were already together."

Virgil wasn't really sure what he was expecting, but that most certainly wasn't it. He was  now blushing harder than Logan, and he began to fiddle with the sleeves of his hoodie. "What, why?"

"Well, we spend more time together than with the others, or maybe that's just me, I don't know. We hold hands occasionally, I don't do that with anyone else, I didn't think you did that either, though I suppose I could be wrong. We went to the movies together once, to see Death Death Revolution, which I had thought was a date," He huffed in exasperation and buried his face in his hands. "Of course it wasn't a date, who goes to see a horror movie for a first date, it's just because the other two would never watch that sort of a thing, I had my suspicions, but I'm just, I'm just so hopeless with these kinds of things, ugh."

Virgil smiled. As absurd as it was, it was also incredibly adorable how Logan had thought they were together. The more he thought about it, the more sense it made. Logan and Virgil, Virgil and Logan.

"Well, does that mean you do want to be with me?"

"Yes Virgil, I wasn't going to date you for no reason."

"Geeze, okay, I was just checking. Would you like to go out with me on a proper date then?"

Logan looked up at him. "I would very much like that, Virgil."

Virgil was about to respond when suddenly there were roars of laughter from the doorway. He whirled around and saw Roman literally rolling on the floor laughing, next to him Patton was trying to stifle some giggles.

"Why are you guys laughing?!"

Roman tried to speak, but continued laughing, so Patton took over.

"We're sorry kiddo-"

"No we're not, we are most certainly not!"

"It's just funny, we thought you two were already together-"

"As did I." Logan added.

"And were trying to keep it secret, but it just turns out you two-"

"Are clueless morons!"

"No, just... lack good communication."

"Or any communication apparently." Roman started laughing again. "I cannot believe this, in oh my goodness, this is comedy gold."

"Shut up, Princey." Virgil snapped.

"Sorry kiddo, we'll leave-"

"Do we have to?"

"And let you two sort this all out." Patton finished, and then dragged Roman away to go watch Newsies.

Virgil and Logan looked at each other.

"So, that was-"

"Embarrassing."

"I was going to say interesting."

They looked at each other again, and Virgil broke into a grin, and began to giggle. Logan joined in, and soon the two of them were laughing together, partially because of what had just transpired, partially because the situation was pretty absurd, and partially from nerves.

Virgil wasn't sure whether this was one of the ways it could have gone wrong, seeing as the whole thing was a total disaster, or one of the ways it could go right, seeing as they were together now, but it had somehow worked out better than he had expected, so he decided to count it as a win.

And yeah, them being a thing made a lot of sense to Virgil.
