Part 6: First Date

Wylie POV:

Wylie looked at himself in the mirror. Now that his father had become himself again. They lived together. He straightened up his suit in an attempt to make it look better. Would Linh like it?

He spritzed on some cologne. And attempted to tame his tight curls.

His room had not changed much since before he had gotten sick because he was in the physician's office. A tall queen bed with blue sheets. White walls. Posters of Bramble players. Three tall oak bookcases, filled with books. One for school, and two for his own reads. A wide white desk complete with a spinning desk chair, a walk in closet and a cello sitting in the corner, leaning against the wall.

The cello has always been his favorite instrument and a way of calming him when he was worried and nervous. Like now.

He sat down and took the bow. Breathing in and out calmly, he set the bow in front of the strings. There was this one human song he liked playing on it, Bach cello suite no. 1 in G major. The bow sat on the strings. He hadn't played in forever, would he still remember?

Breathing again, the bow touched the strings.Music flowed out of the cello, not all notes were perfectly but it felt great. Just getting all of the nervousness and frustration out. The notes seemed to flow all around him, like a musical tidal wave.

One song turned to another. Songs he had spent so much time learning, memorizing. Climax's achieved, songs melted and grew in the air around him.

The music ebbed and flowed. He was lost but found. Time was gone, drowned in a world he had forgotten about.

Suddenly he heard a clapping noise as he finished a song. He turned. Linh was dressed in a pastel pink crop top with a long white skirt. Complete with a belt and a matching brown purse.

He blushed, how long has she been standing there.

Seeming to have read his thoughts she hurriedly reassured him. "Don't worry, I haven't been standing here for that long. Your music was just so pretty. I didn't know that you played the cello."

He was embarrassed. "I've played it since I was five."

"Wow." Linh said. "That's a long time. Um.. all I can do is speak Elvish and German."

"German?" Wylie was surprised but also intrigued.

"Yeah and learning gnomish, as well as Spanish. I want to work in Marondale, and live there." Linh replied.

Marondale was a small village where Gnomes, Elves, and Goblins lived. It was in a small valley in Switzerland, invisible to humans. But it was so close to the human world that elves could visit. It was one of the places that the council looked away from because Marondale was such an international place, that helped keep their peace treaties in place.

"I think living in Marondale would be cool. What kind of job do you want there?" Wylie asked, getting up from the chair and setting the cello against the wall.

"Actually I've already applied but I want to own a shop. A pet shop." Linh smiled.

"Oh. That sounds fun." Wylie was happy that she had already figured out her future, but Wylie still wasn't sure.

"Yeah. They said that they would reply anytime from next week to next month." Linh smiled and held out her hand. "Where are we going."

"Actually, we are going to Marondale." Wylie said, taking her hand.

"Really! Then I can show you the store I applied ownership for." Her earrings moved and one of them got caught in her hair.

"Here, um let me help you." Wylie freed the earring out of her long black hair.

"Thanks. Are you ready to go?" Linh asked.

"Um, yeah." He lead her to their leapmaster 1000. "Marondale." He yelled, one crystal lowered down and wrapped them in light.

                                    Linh POV:

The swirling light carried them away, until it stopped. Linh's mind spun. She quickly regained her bearings though and found herself in a valley. Filled with lush green grass and small hills, against the cliff face, long wispy waterfalls crashed to the ground. She smiled, she would never get used to how pretty Marondale was. The quaint wooden houses, used as shops and homes. Although the homes were triple the size of a store. They still had a cozy glow to them.

Linh spotted her hopeful store. She ran, dragging Wylie with her. The red shutters on the two front windows were closed and the door was painted a matching fire engine red.

  "This is it!" Linh exclaimed.

"The store. Wow! You have nice taste." Wylie remarked.

"Thanks! I have been on the waitlist for this store for so long. I really hope I get it." She said.

"I'm sure you will. Should we head to the restaurant now?" Wylie smiled.

"Yes! I'm hungry." Linh held his hand and walked with him.

"Um.. this is it." Wylie stopped at a small wood building, with the sign above reading The Braided Waterfall.

"Ooo, I like the name." Linh remarked.

They headed inside and sat down. Soon menus were handed to them. They ordered and chatted about stuff.

The food arrived. Linh looked down at a pale orange pink soup with pieces of a yellow vegetable floating around in it. She grabbed a spoon and started eating. Yum. Wylie was starting to eat his food too, they both smiled at each other and Linh felt herself blushing and her stomach doing flip flops.

After they both ate, they went on a walk together. The valley was even prettier at sundown. It just seemed to light it on fire.

Linh headed back home with the biggest grin on her face, how could this day be any better.

She opened her front door and saw mail waiting inside. The envelope was a creamy color with a dark blue wax stamp reading Official Property Managers of The Lost Cities. She gasped, was this what she thought it was.

She tore open the envelope and quickly read the letter.

Dear Ms. Linh Song,

We are pleased to tell you that the property in Marondale has been granted to you for use of a pet store. We hope you make good use of this building and enjoy it.

Sincerely,

Oda Maricus of Official Property Managers of the Lost Cities

Linh screamed of joy. Tam was not home tonight so he didn't hear her, which was probably a good thing because he would think she was being murdered.

She couldn't wait to start up her store and help people find the right pets for them.
