A few days later...

Kanekis P.O.V.

I was finally let out of the hospital. Hide came and picked me up. He was waiting on me and waving at me as I walked out of the hospital doors, and into the fresh day air. It was a sunny and clear day, there was barely any clouds. I got to Hide and hugged him. He hugged back and wrapped his arms around my waist before he nuzzled his nose into my white hair. I nuzzled my nose into the crook of his neck. We pulled out of the hug after a few minutes and he kissed me before I kissed back.

"Come on, we got to get going." Hide said after he pulled away. I didn't know that he pulled away. I let out a little whine, wanting another kiss. He chuckled before leaning down to kiss me again. Then we pulled away. "Are you touched starved or something?" He teased me.

"No, I just really want your affection." I responded.

"Okay. Do you want to go to my place? Or just go around town for a little bit."

"I want to go to your place because I know I'll get tired. But I want to get coffee on the way. The hospital's coffee kinda sucked." I said before he chuckled.

"Okay then." He said before we started to walk down the sidewalk. We held hands as we walked. "We gotta do something about your clothes." He said after a few minutes.

"What do you mean?" I questioned.

"All you have is the clothes on your back." I was wearing the clothes the hospital gave me when I went to talk to everyone in the lobby. He's right, I don't have anything else.

"But I have you and everyone else." I said before I leaned my head to rest on his shoulder.

"Ooh, Mr. smooth. But you knew what I mean."

"Yeah, I do. Maybe when we go on that double date with Kimi and Niskiki, we can turn it into a little shopping trip."

"We could, but we would have to check with them first."

"I know. If they don't want to do that, me and you can go on our free time."

"Alright." We just continued to walk while holding hands. I eventually wrapped my arms around his arm. We did get to a small coffee shop and sat at one of the tables. I got a black coffee and Hide got coffee with creamer and a small sandwich. I had to blow on my coffee because it was to hot. Hide smiled at me.

"What?" I said before taking a sip of my coffee.

"It's nothing, you're just being cute." He said before I blushed a deep shaped of red, even the tips of my ears were blushing. Hide only chuckled at me. Then he held my hand on the table. We got done after a little bit. Hide paid for our stuff. I wanted to protest, but I didn't have any money. So, I let him.

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom before we go." Hide said as he stood out of his chair.

"Okay, I'll wait here for you." I said before he walked to the bathroom. I noticed some people looking at me. I started to feel embarrassed, not because they saw me and Hide holding hands. But because of my looks, more specifically my skin. I started to hide my hands in the sleeves of my grey sweater, and pull up the collar of the sweater to cover my neck. But it wasn't doing much for my neck. Hide came back and noticed I was hiding my hands in my sleeves and trying to hide my neck.

"You getting cold?" He asked or teased. I couldn't really tell with me being nervous.

"Umm, y-yeah." I lied. But I knew he saw though my lie. He knows how to read me like a book. But that is most likely because of long we known each other. Hide figured out why I was nervous and held my hand before helping me stand.

"Come on, let's go to my place." He said as he put his arm around me. I wrapped my arms around his torso and tried to hide my face against him as we walked out of the cafe. As we walked on the sidewalk, I started to feel less anxious. I took my arms off Hide and he took his arm off of me, but we still held hands. "You okay now?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied. We eventually got to where he was living. It was a small house. He got out his keys and unlocked the door. I walked behind him as we walked inside, he turned on the living room light. I closed the door behind me as he took off his shoes. I took off my shoes too. I looked around a little and there was a couple boxes next to a wall.

"Are you still moving in here?" I asked.

"Kinda, I moved in here a little after you fight Rize. The TSC gave it to me, but I have to pay the bills for it." He said as he took off his jacket, revealing a green long sleeved shirt.

"Why did they give you the house?"

"Because they need to know where I am. They hired me because of ghoul connections and information I have, despite being human." He said as he put his jacket on a hanger and put it up in the closet. Then he turned around to face me. "And they wanted me to keep an eye on you in a normal place."

"Is this away of poisoning me?"

"No, it's really just to see how you act and see if you are really dangerous like people think. But I can't be the worse watch grad, can I?"

"No, you're not."

"That's good because you're stuck with me. I do have to write non-bias and truthful reports about you pretty much weekly. Which is going to be a pain in the butt because I known you longer then anyone. I know who can't hurt a fly."

"But after I became a ghoul says different. And when I became dragon, I killed countless. I ate a lot of ghouls to get stronger."

"Okay, so? That's because you needed to get stronger the fastest way possible, with instigators and dangerous ghouls wanting to kill you. That was survival. And dragon was out of your control from the start because it was Furuta's plan. Anything that happened with dragon wasn't your fault, it was his."

"But I killed him, shouldn't I be punished for that?"

"He would've been sent to the death penalty anyway. Plus you were one of the every few ghouls that could stop him. Stop blaming yourself for things that don't need blaming. Yes, you did kill people, but I know you. You don't kill just because you can, you killed to keep yourself alive. Kinda like self defense." He said before I walked up to him and hugged him before hiding my face in his chest. He wrapped his arms around me as I let a couple tears run down.

"Why do you always know how to make me feel better?" I asked.

"I don't know. I guess I just have a way with words." He said before we stayed in a comfortable silence for a little bit, just standing there and holding each other. He eventually put his fingers under my chin and made me look up at him. He wiped my tears away with his thumps. "I don't like it when you have tears down your handsome face." He said, making me blush a little.

"I love you." I said.

"I love you too."

Time skip~~

It's night time and I had to brow some Hide's cloths for pajamas. Which was a blue t-shirt and basketball sorts. He got in pajamas too. He had on a dark green t-shirt and sweat pants. We sat on the couch and watched a movie together, like old times. We shared a blanket and had it wrapped around us. I started to feel sleepy half away through the movie. I rested my head on Hide's shoulder and fell asleep. Hide noticed I was asleep and moved me so I was laying my head on his thigh. He put the entire blanket on me and messaged my scalp and played with my hair. I smiled in my sleep.

When the movie was eventually over, Hide very carefully moved my head off his thigh and stood up. He moved me again so I laying on the couch. I guess I'm a deep sleeper now because this would normally wake me up. I've been sort of a light sleeper all my life. But after becoming a ghoul, a pen falling on the floor could wake me up. Because I needed to be on high alert in case instigators found me. Hide got a pillow and moved my head, so he could put the pillow underneath it. I grumbled a bit in my sleep, but went right back to peacefully sleeping. Hide finished tucking me in and kissed me on the head before going to his bedroom to sleep himself.

In the middle of the night I started to have a bad dream. I moved in my sleep and whimpered. Tears started to run down my cheeks and I lightly panted. I eventually shot up on the couch and put a hand on my chest as I was calming down. But that calmness didn't last long because I started to panic about Hide. Because when I fell asleep he was right next to me. Now I didn't know where he was, but I could smell his sent near by.

I jumped off the couch and ran to where my nose lead me. I opened his bedroom door and saw that Hide was sleeping peacefully in his bed. I was a little more calm now knowing that he was okay. I went to his bedside and started to shake his arm.

"H-Hide, wake up." I weakly said as I continued to shake his arm. He groaned but wasn't waking up. "Please!" I basically shouted before shaking him harder. He unconditionally held my wrist to get me to stop. I stopped shaking him, but my hands were shaking a little. He lightly groaned before opening his eyes and looked up at me. He saw the tears that were down my cheeks and some more running down.

"Kaneki? What's wrong?" He asked tiredly. My hands and arms started to shake a little more.

"I-I had a-a bad d-dream. A-and wanted t-to know you were o-okay." I stuttered out. His tired expression changed into a soft one.

"Come here." He said as he patted a spot on the bed next to him. I let him go as he moved the blanket to let me under. He moved onto his back and I laid my head on his chest while wrapping a arm around him. He wrapped an arm around me and I moved my head where I could hear his heartbeat. It was a calming sound. "Do you know what time it is?" He asked.

"No, I don't." I said before he moved his arm off me to get his phone off it's charger. He put his phone in his other hand and put his arm back around me. He turned on his phone and the bright light made us both wince. He turned down the brightness and got a look at the time.

"It's 2:30." He said. And for some reason I started to feel bad.

"I-I'm sorry for waking you up s-so late." I said as he put his phone back on the bedside table.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. You were panicked and went straight to me. You can wake me up when you have nightmares. It's okay." He said as he put his other arm around me. And kissed me on the head. I only nodded. We eventually fell back asleep while cuddling.
