TWO, no zandvoort?

THERE was a knock on Elena's apartment door. It could be one of two people, Max arriving to help her babysit, or her brother dropping off the kids before he went to work.

She prayed it was the latter.

She didn't know how she felt about spending time with Max alone. He seemed like a nice bloke, but his reaction when he was told she liked Charles was an odd one, and she had a vivid image of him in her mind asking her questions the whole day.

She got up, and opened the door, and to her slight disappointment, seeing the tall dutchman in front of her. "Hi." he said, his accent strong.

"Hey. The kids aren't here yet, but uh, come in." she said, stepping out of the way for Max to walk into the apartment.

"How are you?" Max asked, his hands in his pockets, his elbows bent slightly, which meant his muscles were slightly showing.

"Uh good. Not much has changed since the 48 hours in which I haven't seen you." she joked, walking over to the island in the kitchen. She gestured for Max to take a seat on in of the stools. "Coffee?" she asked.

"Yeah please." Max said, sitting down, watching as Elena made the two coffees.

"What about you?" she asked the dutchman, her back to him as she prepared the drinks. "Any drastic life changes?"

She heard Max let out a soft chuckle. "No, no drastic changes."

Elena finished the drinks, turning around and handing one to Max. She sat down opposite him, and they sat in silence for a few moments, before spoke up. "I saw the Civic. outside. That one yours?" he asked.

"Yeah, the handbrake doesn't work properly. Sometimes it does, sometimes I gotta' pull it really hard so the car doesn't roll." she said, explaining what was wrong.

"Oh that's an easy fix." Max said assuringly. Elena raised an eyebrow at him, and he gave her a smirk, "I've been fixing cars since I was five, I can fix your handbrake no problem."

Elena raised her hands up in mock surrender. "We'll see." she said, smiling at him.

Max chuckled. "So you coming to any races this season?" he asked, switching the conversation to something he knew they could both talk about her hours.

Elena nodded excitedly. "Loads. It's gonna' be my longest season." she said, before she took out her phone, looking into her note app, in which she had all the races she was attending written down. "I'm going to Imola, Monaco, Baku, both Austria races, Silverstone, Belgium, Monza, America, Mexico of course and Abu Dhabi." she rounded off.

Max looked impressed. "Wow. That's a lot of races."

Elena nodded. "I don't usually go to this many, but since Checo's at RedBull now, they've allowed me to come to more."

A teasing expression dawned on Max's face. "No Zandvoort?" he asked.

Elena shrugged, "Didn't see a reason too." she said, giving him an innocent smile.

Max placed a hand where his heart is, and gave a look of mock offence. "That hurts me Elena."

She shrugged, laughing slightly. Max shook his head. "I'm sorry this is just unexceptional. You have to come to Zandvoort." he said, definitively.

"Oh yeah? You gonna' fly my out, get my hotel-"

"If that's what it takes to get you to come then yeah I will." Max said, shrugging his shoulders.

Elena laughed, not thinking that he was serious. But Max's expression didn't change. She raised both eyebrows at him, "Seriously?"

"Yeah. You can't go to all those races and skip Zandvoort. It's against the law." Max said, nodding matter of factly.

"Oh yeah? Who's law?"

Max took a few moments before he said, "Mine. My law."

"Oh I guess I have to follow it then." Elena joked.

"Guess you do." Max said, giving her a smile. "So you'll be at Zandvoort?"

She shrugged, but smiled. "If you're insisting."

"I am." he said, giving her a wink.

Elena rolled her eyes at his antics, but in her head, she was lost as to why Max was so adamant to have her at Zandvoort. Before she could dwell on it any further, the door knocked. Elena shouted for Checo to let himself in, and downed the last of her coffee.

Max did the same, and held his hand out to take her mug from her. She passed it to him, and he walked over to the sink, giving the two mugs a wash before placing them on the drying board.

Sergio Jr and Carlota ran into their Aunt's apartment, instantly jumping onto the soft sofa. Checo chuckled at his kids, before walking over to his sister, giving her a hug. "Thank you for this, it's really helpful."

"No worries hermano. You know I don't mind."

Checo gave Max a hug too (much less sincere than the one he shared with his sister, the two men not really huggers). They exchanged some words before Checo turned to his kids. "Right mis pequeños, I'm going."

He bent down, as the two kids jumped off the sofa and ran towards their dad, engulfing him into a large hug.

Elena smiled at the interaction fondly. She herself did not want kids at the moment, she thought she was too young, and she wanted to enjoy her early 20's before kids became her priority, but she always loved it when she was able to look after her niece and nephew.

Without her noticing, Max turned his head to watch her as she looked on. The sun had come through window towards her left, and it shone on her skin, illuminating her features. He had a feeling in his stomach that he couldn't explain. It was weird.

He don't know what it was.

When Checo let go of his kids, he gave Max and Elena one last goodbye, before he left. Elena crouched down instead, ruffling the hair of the young boy and girl. "Alright you two, we've got to go down the hardware store, so Max can fix my car, then what do you say we go down the play centre?"

Both of the kid's faces lit up in glee as they were offered the chance to go to the large play centre Elena lived near. They nodded their heads, and Elena gave them both high fives.

She stood back up, and gave Max a lay on the shoulder. "I've got to go get my bag and keys. Have fun." she said, leaving him alone with the kids.

Max gave her a sarcastic smile before turning to the kids. "Hi." he said awkwardly.

Junior and Carlota only stared up at the driver.

Max let out a nervous laugh before shouting at Elena. "Elena! Hurry up please!"

With a roll of her eyes Elena came out her room with her bag. She stood next to Max, leaning against the kitchen island, so that their arms rested against each other. "If you need the toilet go now." she told the kids.

They both hurried off to reach the bathroom before the other, and Elena gave Max a look, which said she really wanted to laugh.

Max glared at her. "Don't laugh."

"I'm not laughing." she lied, as a laugh escaped her lips as she spoke. "I thought you were good with kids? And you saw them like two days ago."

"I am usually but they were staring at me like "The Shining" twins."

At this, Elena did laugh.

Max gave her another glare, "Do you want your handbrake fixed?"

She stopped laughing immediately. "Sorry."

Max nudged her with his elbow, chuckling slightly.
