EIGHT, the streets of monaco

NEW race weekend, knew challenges, a potential new championship leader.

Monaco. Such a beautiful place, an entirely different world, and when the streets became a circuit, boy did the whole country come alive.

Elena had always loved Monaco, sure the races could sometimes be slightly repetitive, their not being many overtaking points, but the atmosphere was what made it such an incredible experience... and it did only happen once a year.

El had almost always gone to Monaco, and Sienna had lived there for a few years now. She took a job in the French-Speaking country, moving from America to work with the many models that lived there.

Elena had gone across to film something for Giorgio Armani, a 'Monegasque special'. That's where she and Sienna had met.

Almost all the drivers nowadays lived in Monaco, being a hot sport for famous, rich people, but only one was born there.

Charles, even though he had grown up waking the streets of the circuit, had never finished a home race.  Elena had always sympathised with him, as he could never catch a break with the tight circuit.

However this year, she wasn't only thinking about whether Charles finished the race. If Max won, and Lewis finished low down enough, Max could take the lead of the Championship for the first time in his Formula One career.

It was Thursday, Media day, and Elena had flown over to Monaco a day before the race weekend officially began, to explore Monaco herself a little.

Checo had messaged her earlier explaining that he wasn't able to go with her, as his trainer Jose needed him to do a few more preparations before the race.

Elena was stood outside the Media paddock, staring at her brother's text pursing her lips. "Ah mierda." she sighed.

Suddenly, the door to the paddock opened, and two people came out of the conference room. Elena hadn't noticed, as she was replying to Checo's message, silently cursing him for leaving her on such short notice, when a loud voice called her name...

Well, spelt it out.

"E,L,E,N,A my friend why are we stood outside in the cold?"

She turned around and smiled widely and Daniel Ricciardo, and then at Max was stood behind him, and had poked his head around his mate to see the girl.

She shrugged, "I was waiting for my brother but he bailed on me." she said, sighing.

Daniel dropped his jaw in a mock offender manner. "How dare he."

"I know right." Elena said, rolling her eyes, still smiling. "It's alright. I'll just find my hotel." she joked, pushing herself off the wall she was leaning on.

Max frowned slightly. "You don't know where you're hotel is?"

"I haven't been to Monaco since 18'." Elena admitted. "New buildings, new hotels. I don't know my way around anymore. It's fine, it will be an adventure." she said, as she began to walk away. "Adios boys."

Elena walked away, replacing her phone in her bag as she strolled along to the exit of the paddock and put into the Monegasque streets.

She looked along for cars before she went to cross the street, before he phone buzzed. She retrieved it and saw a reply from Checo, telling her "Eat shit." (She'd previously told him she might grab something nice to eat on the way back to the hotel, since he'd be training. )

She laughed at his aggravation, typing a quick message back, before stepping out to cross the street.

Suddenly, and arm wrapped around her waist and she was pulled back into the pavement, as a car, very much going over the speed limit, blew past.

Elena stood shocked, turning around to see Max staring at her wide eyed, his arm still wrapped around her waist.

"Jesus Christ Elena!" he scolded her. "Are you out of your mind. You can't read your phone out on the street. You scared the shit out of me."

"Hey," Elena said, placing the phone in her bag, and then holding Max's arm. "I'm okay."

" 'You're okay?' You just almost got hit by a fricking Renault!"

"Max-"

"Two seconds. Two seconds and you would have been hit-"

"Max-"

"You are lucky I was there I don't even know what would have-"

"Max!"

Max stopped ranting as he looked from the street to Elena. She gave him a small smile. "Thank you." She moved forward, and wrapped her arms around him, resting her head in his chest.

Max sighed, settling one arm around her waist, his other hand holding the back of her head. "When I told your brother I would look after you whilst you were at the track I didn't mean saving you from getting run over." he managed to joke.

Elena let out a laugh into his chest. "Why were you out here anyways?"

"Didn't want you wandering around the streets of a foreign country alone. Plus you don't speak french."

Elena pulled back from him. "You don't know I can't speak french."

"I do by process of elimination. That sigh you were just stood beside said 'No crossing'." he told her with a slight smirk.

Elena bit the inside of her cheek. "Right. That's perfect."

"Okay, I'm walking you to your hotel." Max decided for her, as he took her bag from her shoulder, forcing her to follow him.

MAX did indeed walk Elena back to her hotel, making sure she was alright the whole time, and Elena convincing him she wasn't scared from the near miss.

When she got back to her room, she unlocked the door, placing her bag, which she retrieved of Max on the floor.

Maria, who Elena was sharing a room with to save money poked her out from the corner. "Oh hey! How was Checo?"

"Not with me." Elena said, heading straight for her bed and lying down on it.

Maria frowned. "Oh, so... where was he?"

"With Jose."

"Ah. So what took you so long getting back?"

"I nearly got run over."

Maria dropped the short she had been unpacking and started at Elena, her best friend instincts kicking in. "What."

"It's fine, I wasn't looking where I was going that's all. Max saved me." Elena said, nonchalantly.

Maria tilted her hair and raised her eyebrows slightly, "Oh he did did he?" her tone wasn't firm anymore, but calculating.

Elena raised her head from the bed. "What."

Maria raised her hands. "Nothing, no nothing." she went back to unpacking as Elena narrowed her eyes at her friend slightly before settling back down.

Maria peered over at Elena a few times before she spoke again. "So uh, did you're Prince Charming walk you home."

Elena stood up off the bed. "I'm gonna' go see if Veronica has a spare bed, have fun on your own Ria."

Maria laughed at Elena, grabbing her hand as she walked by. "Come on you know I'm joking." Maria spun Elena around, pushing her back towards the bed, as she returned to her suitcase.

"You never joke." Elena sulked, before she did lie back on the bed.

"Aw come on El. I'm just saying Max is a very nice boy. I should know I work with him sometimes." Maria informed the Perez girl. "I'm just saying he's not a bad option-"

"Charles!" Elena said defiantly from the other side of the room.

"I know but-"

"Charles."

"But Max is-"

"Charles." Elena said, looking over at Maria, smiling slightly.

Maria smiled too, but rolled her eyes. "You and Charles." she said, letting out a slight chuckle.

Elena let out a small sigh as she looked back up at the ceiling. "Practice tomorrow, focus on that. " she thought to herself. "Not Max's arms."

She rolled her eyes up at the white paint, and rolled over, closing her eyes to try and clear her head.
