Chapter 17
It hadn't been too hard to convince David to help Kandy out with her newfound ice powers. In fact, David looked quite enthusiastic to help the tiny girl gain some control over her ice magic. This was why the dimensional travelers were watching Kandy do target practice on the training grounds with David as her coach.
Of course, since Kandy was only three, she didn't have near the amount of control someone David's age would have. So there were a lot of misfires as well as a lot of times that the spectators had to move out of the way unless they wished to become popsicles.
When she started to get tired, David noticed and told her. "Ok, just one more nice blast and then we'll stop, ok? You up to it?"
"I weady!" Kandy said her eyes lit up with determination.
"Alright, fire at will!" David said pointing at a target.
Kandy directed her hands towards the targets but instead of actually hitting them, the ice went way off course. As in, the direction of Brady. Unfortunately for the young werewolf, he didn't have enough time to move out of the way. His eyes closed as he braced for impact, raising his arms in defense.
Everyone's eyes went wide when an opaque shield appeared in front of him, preventing the ice from reaching him. Brady's eyes widened as well once he realized he wasn't a popsicle. The shield dissipated after a few moments.
"Whoa, that's some pretty impressive magics, kid." David said looking impressed.
Brady just stared at his hands before sitting on the ground sighing.
"What's wrong?" Austin asked his son in concern.
"Why'd Kandy get a cool power and I didn't?" Brady whined, everyone just stared at Brady for a moment before Austin said. "Your power literally just saved you from becoming a human popsicle."
Brady just continued to pout so they decided to ignore him. Instead, David turned to Austin and said. "She's got some powerful magic for her age. If you want, I can continue to help her in a few days."
"A few days?" Austin asked curiously.
"The bosses want to do an excursion with me for the next couple of days. I would've left immediately but I really didn't want to leave a new ice mage without seeing what control she had over her powers." David informed him. "She should be good though."
Austin nodded before looking to his daughter, who had run up and hugged Brady after the shield disappeared.
"Kandy, what do we say to Mr. David for helping you with your powers?" He called over and she looked up and chirped. "Thank you, Mr. David!"
David chuckled and nodded before heading off. Austin walked over to his kids and picked them up, much to Brady's dismay. Michael had already sped off with Ritchie following him in bat form while Brandon was content to follow behind his godfather.
After putting Kandy down for a nap, Austin set Brady up on his shoulders and let the little boy direct him around the island. Normally, Austin wouldn't do so but he needed something to do that was somewhat relaxing and having Brady direct him was much more relaxing than having to chase after the pinkette.
Honestly, Austin wasn't doing so hot. Sure, he wasn't sick or anything but he was missing Bri terribly. Not to mention, he was also very worried about her. She had been left alone with the rest of their kids and the daycare and he was stuck here. He didn't know how she was going to manage but he was hoping that Athena would go and help her. Their oldest may not like him too much, but she was a momma's girl so hopefully, she would help out.
His dreams had been plagued with images of his wife. Her long pink hair, her shining blue eyes; images of her laughing, lying down, playing with the kids... everything. It was breaking his heart. But he had to keep it together. Brandon said that it shouldn't be more than a few months. And Brandon could make predictions with his cards so they should be good, right? Right?
If Austin was honest with himself, he didn't know.
He decided to focus on Brady for now. Right now, he couldn't be with his wife so he settled for making sure that their kids were as comfortable as he could make them. He may not be the best at it but right now, he was all the kids had, and he had to do his best by them. So, dang it, he would!
