Life (After Stephen Dunn) [2003]

I live for the glittering beads of moistness

That cling desperately to the early morning air

Caressing it and calling it it's own

I live for the smooth violin

The white bow hairs as soft as down

For the glittering strings

The hot stage lights making them a montage of colors

I live to make it scream with passion

Fingers flying over the vertical rows

My mind forever lost in the musics' sweet embrace

I live for the dawn of autumn

When the air has that bitter sweet bite

The ground covered in lifeless leaves

The trees a cartwheel of colors

I live for the way the leaves sing my name as I pass beneath them

And when I cast my gaze above me

The blue-jay sky filters through the colors

Cascading images from above down onto the sidewalk

Like beautiful jewels an emperor would envy for

And it is moments like these

When I am beneath the sky with a song in my heart

That I know I am truly alive
