October 28th

On October 28th at precisely 6:03 am, Drake could be seen lying in his bed passed out. At 6:05 his alarm rang and he shut it off with a groan. His head was killing him. He thought about why in the hell he decided to get drunk last night. Oh yeah...so he wouldn't want to kill himself when he went to work today. "Damn, it's hot," He muttered to himself. Last night was the last time he'd make this mistake. He was sure of it. He was feeling like turning over a new leaf after waking up with the world's worst hangover.

"Shit," he groaned rolling over. He had to go pick his daughter up at 7:00. There are no sick days in parenting. He groaned again and sat up. He rubbed his hands on his face and got up to go to the bathroom. He relieved himself and took an extra long shower. Once he got out he went to the closet to pick out a suit, he did have a business to run. His phone rang. The phone glowed in his otherwise dark room. "Stella Patterson," it read. He answered.

"Stella, I'm on my way to pick her up right now," he said, sitting on his bed to put shoes on. Because of course, that was what on his way looked like.

"Don't worry about it. I'll take her."

There was a pause. "What?"

"I'll take her to school, don't worry."

"But-"

"You can still have her this week. I just want to take her to school today."

"Stella, I'm literally on my way right now. I want to take her to school." He got his coat, keys, and briefcase before walking to the car.

"Go to work. Don't worry about it." He started the car and pulled out of the driveway.

"I wanna worry about it! I barely get to see Eva. I'm her father, I want to do these things for her."

"Drake, I understand that. I do."

"You obviously don't if I have to beg to take my daughter to school."

He heard Stella sigh over the phone. "Fine. Be here in 10 minutes," She said before hanging up.

Marc wasn't a bad guy. Honest. He wasn't. Okay, so he's been having an affair with his brother's wife. Did that make him so bad?

Yeah. Probably.

When Marc woke up at 6:30 AM, he was sad to see that his lady love hadn't stayed the night. But....that didn't stop him from going on with his life. It surely wasn't going to stop for him.

Marc was a lawyer. His father owned the firm and his older brother runs it now that he's retired. Speaking of the old coot.

"He wants us all to meet at the house at around five for dinner and an announcement," Drake said. Marco had somehow made it through his morning and was on his way to work. He was talking to drake through the Bluetooth in his car.

He sighed. "Alright. Fine, I'll try to make it."

"Try?"

"Yes try, Drake. I'm busy tonight. I have things to do."

He heard Drake scoff on the other side. "You," he started, "you are so selfish."

"I'm selfish?"

"Yes! You are so selfish it's ridiculous. I swear. Do you honestly think we aren't all busy?"

"I didn't thin-"

"Well are all busy. We all have shit to do. But when dad calls. We go. We fucking go and we deal with all the other shit later."

"Drake, I'm sorry!"

"Whatever Marco. Just show up to the damn dinner. I have to go get my daughter and take her to school. Tell Maria that I won't be there until about 8.

"Alright, alright. Fine. I will go." Marco heard the bluetooth in his car disconnect dejectedly. At the firm, Marc checked in with Maria, the secretary. He politely mentioned that Drake wouldn't be in until eight today. He asked if there were any notifs on his current case, a domestic abuse case. It was a married couple, the wife had been beating up on the husband. He finally worked up the courage to file for divorce after winding up in the hospital. A stab wound in the rib.

No notes means no business for the time being. He and Drake had a meeting at ten, but that was in two and a half hours. His mind was still on his conversation with his brother not thirty minutes before. He was most certainly not selfish, self indulgent maybe. But never, ever, selfish.

He thought of Lena and how he'd do anything for her. He was absolutely enraptured by her. Contrary to what you might've thought, they weren't just having sex. It was a hell of a lot more than that. At least, it was to him. He didn't know about her. He never knew about her. She was just so complicated. She loved him. That he was sure of. But he couldn't crack her head open. He never knew what she was thinking. All in all he tried to imagine a life without her. Oddly enough, he couldn't imagine one.

This is pretty short. I don't like that, but I quite like where I left the chapter  off at.  So this story takes course over six or seven days. Well the first two acts do. So the next chapter is the beginning of act two. It's 8:30 and I'm tired as hell. So I'm gonna sleep. Catch you on the flip side.
