"Jake, what the hell is going on here?" Chanel said, stomping through the half-open, double doors wearing a drop-dead mini skirt and a crop top showcasing her cleavage. Her long legs and thin body structure glides towards me as she death glares Summer, then stares narrowing her cold eyes onto me.
She is definitely mad...
I should be going crazy for this woman, but I am not crazy about her because I am forced to be with her. How can I love someone if I am forced to be with them? At first I tried loving her, but it was not real, it was never from the beginning. But anyone of my friends will tell me otherwise, that I am insane and that I have a super hot girlfriend. Except for Ash who thinks otherwise.
"Why were you on top of that slut!" Chanel stomps her foot demanding an answer. "I know why you didn't come to see me this afternoon because you were with this—"
"Nell, you need to calm down. I know this looks bad, but nothing happened," I said, cutting her sentence short, standing to my feet, explaining the situation. "Summer just hit her head and swallowed water, so I had to intervene."
"No, I'm not going calm down and I see that you're on a first-name basis now are we," Chanel said smugly, ignoring the fact that I saved Summer's life. "Outside now!" Chanel growls underneath her breath.
I breathe a defeating sigh and glance towards Summer and mouth 'sorry' as our eyes connect and cause a strange feeling in my chest. What has gotten into me? Summer is just an ordinary girl. Get ahold of yourself, Jake. My gaze drops to the stone of the floor, following Chanel's footsteps out of the sports hall and into the empty corridor.
"Well," Chanel taps her manicured fingers impatiently on the sides of her hips, "Is it true?"
"Is what true?" Can you believe this woman?
"That you ditched me for her?" Chanel says, her grey blue eyes glaring at me.
"No, why do you always have to be so dramatic. If you really need to know, I was held up at work," I said, anger building up inside my bones. "Anyway, not that I'm not thrilled to see you," I say in a sarcastic tone, "But what are you doing here while I'm working?"
"Well, I hadn't seen you all day, silly," Chanel snakes her arms around my body and rests her head full of bleach, blonde hair on my chest as I aimlessly hug her back, as she forgets that she's supposed to be mad at me.
Women and their mood swings could kill with their eyes closed one of these days.
"So, I was hoping you would cancel on that 'charity case' and come hang out with your girlfriend instead who you should be spending your time on." Chanel lifts her head off my chest and stares, fluttering her eyelashes at me.
"She's not a 'charity case', Nell," I clarify harshly, "I still don't understand why you have a problem with her, and I honestly couldn't care less right now, because I have a job to do."
"Unbelievable," Chanel releases her arms from me and crosses them over her chest, narrowing her eyes at me. "Jake, I don't trust her nor do I like her, for that matter. Why can't one of the other guys teach her? Like, I don't know..." Chanel taps her chin, "...Wes or Ethan... even Ash for God's sake?"
When did Chanel start giving Weston a nickname? When did that happen?
"Because I'm the one who offered and I'm a better coach anyway," I said with a little hint of cockiness, "I don't have time for this. You're being selfish and you know it."
"Who me? Selfish? I think we both know who's the selfish one here and it's obviously not me." Chanel plays victim, acting innocent. "And so what if I am a little. I'm allowed to be mad at my boyfriend for not making it his top priority to make sure his girlfriend of two years is as happy as she can be."
"What the hell, Nell. This is so petty of you and I just saw you yesterday."
"So what... and your point is," Chanel taps her nails on her arms within her embrace.
"My point is that you're being selfish and ungrateful. You know that I'm always busy with work, coaching and training. You knew what you signed up for. So you can't tell me this is all my fault because your emotions are hurt because you're jealous of a harmless girl."
"I told you already, I'm not jealous. I'm just... ahh... You know what, I don't have the patience to argue with you right now." Chanel folds her arms and brushes past me, facing the opposite direction as her head tilts to the side while she speaks, "I'm gonna go see if Wes wants to hang with me since you're obviously too busy for me." She swiftly glances ahead as her dirty, blond hair sways down her back. "Oh, and put on a shirt for Christ's sakes," Chanel adds as her high-heels echo down the hallway, as I roll my eyes in the process.
Weston really...? Do not get me wrong, Weston is an alright guy, but he can be a pain in the ass and I do not trust him with any girls. But why did I not stop Chanel? Why have I been defending Summer? I barely even know her, but yet it felt right saving her from Weston. Hell, it even felt right saving her today. There is something about Summer that I cannot quite explain... and I am curious to find out the missing puzzle pieces.
I breathe another heavy sigh and lean on the brick wall behind me next to the sport hall doors. Anger scorches throughout my entire body as my knuckles become white from the pressure. I spin around, punching the brick of the wall as pain instantly erupts through my hand and blood rushes to the surface. That is definitely going to bruise.
I suddenly feel like my father with anger issues and punching walls. Just now realizing that I do not want to scoop as low as my father. But Chanel makes me so mad. Why am I still dating her? I do not love her, but I do not want to hurt her either and I definitely do not want to piss off my mother. My mother has been planning our wedding ever since our families became friends. My mother is all that I have left and I know she is only doing what she can for her only child as a single mother and as a Chancellor, but as soon as I train for the Olympics I am not coming back. The Olympics is my only escape from her overbearing captivity that I have been imprisoned for nineteen years of my life.
I drop my head facing the wall and lean my arms over the hard brinks and ponder whether or not I should go after Chanel or back with Summer? Chanel can look after herself and Summer most likely has a concussion. I shake my head and stand up straight, opening the double doors and step into the arena as my footsteps echo with each step.
