Day One (4)
"A long time ago, when we still lived in the city, mum went to a meeting and dad was on a business trip, so I was home alone. This was long before the outbreak of Carsania yet still, I remember hearing a knock on my door. I recall looking through the curtains to see a creature in a black robe..."
FLASHBACK (Danica's POV)
Immediately, I closed the curtain and hid under the window, so it wouldn't see me. 'It' was all I could refer to it as since I wasn't sure whether it was female or male. And besides, I don't recall a human being ever being pale blue.
"I know you're in there," its voice echoed in my ears.
"Leave me alone," she responded back.
"Please let me in." It sounded desperate...why?
"My parents told me not to talk to strangers."
"Please, Danica." I froze.
"H-h-h-how d-do you know m-my n-n-n-name?"
"Let me in, Danica. I need you to let me in." She wasn't just desperate, I realised. Fear consumed her. Her breathing was unsteady and when I peeked to look at her again, I noticed her crying.
Although everything inside me was telling me I'm insane, I still found the courage to unlock the door and let her in. 'Was it a mistake?' was the first thing that popped into my mind however, it didn't even look at me when it entered, it just sprinted to the bathroom.
I closed the door firmly, locking it behind me before stealthily heading to the bathroom. I watched as it coughed up a dark green liquid into the toilet. That was when I noticed its tight grip against its stomach.
Immediately, I ran to the kitchen returning to the creature with a towel.
"My mother always told me when I was bleeding a lot to apply a lot of pressure to get it to stop bleeding," I announced as I removed its hand and instead pressed the towel onto its stomach.
Once the bleeding had stopped, it smiled at me, revealing its black mouth. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"No offense but what exactly are you?" I asked, earning a chuckle from it.
"I'm what you humans call an alien."
"An alien?" My eyes lit up in glee. "I just met an alien! Cool!"
"You remind me of my son," she mumbled, her smile slowly fading as she looked to the ground, a tear escaping her eye. Instantly, my smile disappeared as I leaned closer to her, ready to give her a hug.
"What's wrong with that?"
"I had to give him up a few years ago...haven't seen him since."
"Why did you have to give him up?"
"It was only way to keep him alive. My son is a mix of alien and human, you see, and once the other aliens found that out, they instantly ordered to kill him. Obviously since he was my son, I wasn't going to let go of him that easily, so I returned to the human world and left him at his father's door. That was the last time I ever saw him. Every time I return to the human world, I got to that place to find him, but I never do..."
"Why not?"
"I don't actually know. Maybe they moved or maybe he just doesn't like the outdoors."
"What's your name," I tried to change the subject.
"My name? That's a hard one...I only have an alien name and it's Aarivana."
"I got an idea, I'll give you a human name." Her eyes brightened. "Since your alien name is Aarivana what about...Ariana?" She smiled.
"I love it!"
She stayed in my room ever since then until one day when I was ten, I came home only to find her dead beside my bed. On the bedside table was a note. It said:
'Dearest Danica,
The past three years have been amazing for me, they truly have. However, no matter how many time I tried to tell you the truth about me, I found I couldn't. 'Why?' I would constantly ask myself. I mean, you are trustworthy but why couldn't I admit to you that I was far from fine?
The day we first met, I was shot and needed to get help before I died, thank you so much for looking after me however, the thing is, injuries like being shot by a gun aren't as easy to get over like humans. Yes, we, aliens, heal very fast, at least on the outside. Problem is, a gunshot is fatal for us and there is no way of survival for us. I was lucky for my life to exceed to three years after the shot all thanks to you.
The night I was shot, I was actually visiting my son but my ex-husband, he shot me. And as for my son, the reason he never left the house was because he was only allowed in his room or the lounge. The lounge was only accessible for him if he was to get whipped or anything of that sort. My son, he was abused by his own father all because he was half alien. All because of me.
Anyways, the main point of this letter is to warn you. I don't know when but someday the aliens are going to attack Earth in an effort to get revenge on the humans. There is literally no way you can avoid this but instead I suggest you keep yourself safe. I left a necklace in your drawer I want you to wear it every single day. Promise me you'll do that, please. And when that day comes remember, aliens will set many traps that will continue to confuse humans. The traps will include scenarios that are physically impossible but all of them will include one single thing: human blood. Whatever you do, don't touch it. But if you do, wash it off as soon as possible; aliens are attracted to fresh human blood.
The outbreak of a disease of which its sources will be unknown to human beings will take over your region. You need to find a cure for it. I can't tell you how though, even that is unknown to me. Promise me you'll stop the aliens from abducting innocent human beings. I'm counting on you, Danica. Save everyone.
~Ariana.
Just a question out of curiousity: If you are still in school, when do your schools close for Christmas and New Year?
