Day Five (2)

Flashback

"What?" she asked, not believing what he said until she lifted up her hands. She indeed was an alien. But how?

She wanted to stay longer, question longer but the aliens were closing in, their footstep echoing around the UFO louder than ever now that they were only metres away from them. Dan began to hyperventilate, worrying once more, not just because the aliens were closing in on them but now because she was one of them. But how?

The glass. That was all she could think off; the glass. The glass that slit Aarialla's neck and the glass that she was stabbed with. But she cleansed away all the alien cells, didn't she? With the violet tea.

She continued to interrogate herself until she found herself being engulfed into a crowd of aliens who marched through the corridors of the UFO, guarding it from trespassers. Guarding it from them. They wore guns on their sides, reminding Danny that if a fight was to break out, she didn't have her gun at hand, nor was she strong enough to take out all of these guards, even with Aarialla' gadgets.

She marched along with the aliens, pretending to be one of them, keeping her own profile on the low. However, when she looked to her left she noticed Jisung wasn't there. In fact, Jisung wasn't anywhere around her. She began to freak out, her fear swallowing her. On the outside, she tried to maintain a nonchalant posture.

That was what she was best at, she realised, pretending, despite everything she's going through, that she was okay. That she was alright. But she was far from it. Those words became foreign to her many years back. She would tell people she was fine, that she was okay, yet little did they know she had forgotten their meanings long ago. Instead, she simply translated them as 'I'm feeling normal' which could also be translated as a cry for help.

The alarm had stopped shortly after and each alien parted ways, heading to their stations. Danica stood in the middle of the corridors, still confused. She gazed around the area she was in once last time before looking down at her hands. She was human again. Furrowing her eyebrows, her gaze landed on the glowing gem, making her release a sigh of relief. It was the gem. She wasn't an alien.

Now, Danica found herself wondering around the main UFO with no sense of direction. Since she had lost Jisung, she lost the map too. So, she simply walked forward, always alternating between left and right whenever she came across another hallway.

Surprisingly, she felt at ease have no specific direction to follow, also the fact she was sure another hour wouldn't pass by so quickly. She inhaled and exhaled, feeling her joints relax as she strolled through the UFO.

Although Danny was perfectly aware of her mission, she couldn't help but want to linger in the UFO a little longer, explore the area as much as possible. Now that the Emperor was out of the picture getting the gem to its final destination would be a walk in the park, she had nothing to worry of.

She didn't worry of the alien patrol much either. After what happened before, she was sure the gem had her back and would transform her into an alien again.

However, a part of her felt a little sad that she had to experience everything on her own. She wished Jisung was with her. That she could explore the UFO with him. She could only take so much on her own.

Whie she was at the campsite, she spent her days and nights in her tent. She was utterly alone and had no one to talk to. Even before the outbreak of Carsania, she had no friends her age. Ariana and Chris were her only friends. But Ariana had died and once they began staying in campsites, Chris grew closer to Changbin, spending less time with her.

The past five days was a huge change for her. For the first time in forever, she didn't feel lonely, she had friends. Although it was only five days, she felt odd being on her own again. And quite honestly, it hurt her. But was it because it reminded her of her life before the journey? Or the fact everything might return to how it was before the journey once she places the gem down? Will she lose both Changbin and Jisung? Will she be on her own again?

Her mind was bombarded with questions about what might happen once she placed the gem down. She was so into her thoughts she hadn't even noticed she had entered a corridor with doors on either side. The corridor led to an open door, which seemed to lead to utter darkness. But Danica continued forward, towards it. Not even realising where the gem was leading her...Or that she had seen everything around her before. But this time, she was actually there.

Only when she was engulfed by the darkness and the door closed behind her, was when Danny realised what had happened. She recalled when Aarialla had drugged her and what she saw.

Running her had along the wall behind her, she felt the light switch. As she turned it on she muttered, "laboratory," under her breath, only to be mistaken.

Instantly, bringing her hand to her mouth with a gasp, Danica gazed around the room in utter horror. The ghastly view bringing tears to her eyes.

Pale bodies were hung in rows across the room. Iron collars were wrapped tightly around their necks, choking them. A wire ran from the collars to the ceiling, hanging them a metre off the ground.

The bodies were kept in separate capsules that each had a small rectangular piece of steel with name engraved into it.

Hesitantly, Dan approached the first body, recognising the name instantly. A name she hadn't seen or heard in a long time. Kang Yu-Jin, the first Carsania victim. Danica's eyes widened as she walked to the next body, recognising the name as well from a news report long ago.

She continued gazing at the bodies, reading their names and remembering them until she stopped at a particular name; Abigail Simmers.

Danny stared at her mother's name, tears forming in her eyes as she slowly looked up to see the face. She hated how death removed the beauty of a person when they were alive but then again, Dan barely remembered how her mother looked, she was still relatively young when she lost her.

"Oh Mum," Danica mumbled as she stroked the glass capsule. "If only you were here to see me now. I bet you'd be so proud of me. I found the cure to Carsania. It was violets after all. I guess you were right, they are good luck. They saved me last night. I'm to save the world now and restore the alien world with this gem," she sighed, wiping the tears that rolled down her cheeks. "Wish me good luck."

She looked down, feeling on the verge of crying her heart out. But she couldn't. Not here, not now. After walking a while she spotted another sign written Mitchel Simmers. She shook her head, she couldn't possibly stand looking at her other parent dead. So, she continued walking forward, seeing a door at the end. But something beside it caught her eye.

She found herself walking towards it against her will. Her eyes glued to the boy.

"Chris," she muttered but to her surprise, that wasn't where the gem was leading her.

Behind him was an empty capsule, Dan furrowed her eyes before glancing at the name. Her heart stopped and for a second she forgot how to breathe. Deep down something was telling her to run, sprint, get as far away as she could but that wasn't the gem's wish. So, she was glued to the ground as she stared at the capsule she was supposed to be in.

However, her gaze turned to the capsule beside hers, another empty one. But Dan knew there was something wrong about it. Dark green handprints decorated it. Then suddenly, she saw it.

The Emperor stood in the capsule, banging against the walls with his bloody hands. he screamed, yelled and cried but it was inaudible out of the capsule.

Then she saw herself in her capsule, hanging lifelessly in it. Until she suddenly opened her eyes and gasped for air, clawing at the collar as she kicked against the capsule walls.

Danica fell to the ground, finally remembering it. She had died, she realised. She had died for a whole minute as her alien body took over her in the cottage.

Flashback

Whereas everyone in the cottage saw a girl on the counter, groaning and grunting loudly as she arched her back in pain, Danica as far from the cottage.

Danica's POV

I gasped for air as I opened my eyes. No oxygen entered my lungs though. Instead I was coughing viciously. Wait...where am I? What is this place? What's around my throat?

Panic engulfed me as I clawed the metal object choking me, kicking violently at the glass in front. It didn't break though. I tried numerous times, growing light headed by the lack of oxygen.

My vision began to darken, everything swirled. I lost feeling in my legs and arms. I needed to get out of there. I needed to survive. But it was hopeless. I used my last bit of energy to glance over to my right to see an alien banging against the glass. He seemed familiar but before I could make out who it was, my vision went completely black.

"Oh my gosh," Dan uttered, shaking her head viciously as he backed away. "I couldn't have. I...I escaped death..." Her heart began to beat violently as she turned her gaze to the Emperor's capsule, exhaling quietly. "And he did too."
