November 20: MUSIC BOX

My mother used to have a music box
She would pay when I asked
So I could watch the gears go 'round
And listen to the sound
It made
My father had a sailing ship
That sat upon a shelf
And he would help it fly away
And sing a song to usher day
Into night
My brother had a stuffed bear
He named and loved
Until he dropped it while playing
In the hay barn decaying
That summer
Though on some nights I lay awake, not sleeping
I press my fingers to my wrist
And know my heart is still beating
With memories
