Chapter 10

Dawn woke up early, deciding to join Elliot and Chris on their runs. 2 days had passed, she had fought both Sebastian and Eli and won, but realised that her stamina was low. From then on, she promised herself to go on daily runs in the morning. She changed into her Day outfit and jogged down to the entrance of the castle.

"Good Morning, Day," Eli said.

"Morning, Eli."

Eli chuckled, "Oh god, I just realised... You're Day the Knight." Both Day and Eli burst into laughter. How could I even choose a name like Day? she wondered, grinning ear to ear as Chris walked over.

"What are you smiling about?" he asked.

"Nothing," replied Day. Chris frowned and the three started their run. They circled the castle a few times and then went to Rocker Woods. Day tried her best to avoid the path to her cabin, leading them deeper and deeper into the forest.

While running, Day heard the steady sound of a stream.

"Let's get a drink, I'm thirsty." she said. Chris and Eli agreed and they headed for the stream. Water rushed through her hands as Day dipped them into the stream. She idly played around making shapes in the water when a splash of water hit her. She turned around. It was Chris. She bent down, grabbed a handful of water and flung it in his direction. Chris ducked and Day grinned as both started splashing each other.

"Guys. Hello?"

Day turned to see Eli with his hands on his hips. She took a handful of water and splashed him as well. It splashed him right in the face.

"Ugghhh. I'm going home." he said walking away. Day frowned.

"What happened?" she asked.

"Eli doesn't like water at all. He can't swim."

"Oh. Can you?"

Chris nodded. Day grinned and lunged for him, making him fall into the stream. She immediately jumped off him, trying to stay as dry as possible. She splashed him one more time before starting to run. He got up and chased her, but she was too fast. By the time they reached the castle, Chris was dry and both him and Day were panting hard.

"I swear. You're too fast." Chris said, reaching his room and slumping on the ground.

"Yeah. But I don't have stamina like Eli does." she replied thoughtfully.

"I'm swear, I'm going to kill you for doing that." Chris said.

"You're too tired to even get up." Day said, flopping onto a couch.

"I feel bad, Chris. I didn't know Eli didn't like water. What should I do?" she asked sighing.

"Go talk to him."

Day nodded.

How can he be so annoying and so nice at the same time?  wondered Chris as Day slipped out of the room.

She decided to drop by the kitchen to grab a snack for Eli as well. Maybe something sweet will cheer him up a bit... she thought.

"Good morning, Dorothy." she said kindly to one of the maids in the kitchen. Over the time she had been at the palace, she had often visited the kitchen for snacks. She had made friends with the maids quickly enough.

"Good morning, Day. What would you like today? We have freshly made lemon tarts, a caramel cake and banana bread." Dorothy replied.

Day pointed towards the caramel cake, "That one." Dorothy nodded, packed the cake in a small box and handed it to Day.

"Enjoy it!"

"I will."

Day smiled, walked towards Eli's room and knocked. Grumbling, Eli opened it.

He was about to close the door when she said, "Wait. I have caramel cake." Eli immediately opened the door wide and gestured for Day to come in.

"I'm so sorry, Eli. I shouldn't have splashed you with water."

Eli sighed. "It's fine, I guess. You didn't know."

She sat down next to him on the bed.

"Can I have the cake now?" Eli asked. Day grinned and handed it to him.

"It's all yours."

Eli dug into the cake and it was gone in a few seconds.

"That was... fast." Day commented. Eli grinned.

"Come on. I know a way you can make it up to me." he said. Confused, she followed him out of the room.

"What is it?" she asked.

"I really really really need you to beat Christopher. Maybe break a few bones of his." Eli replied.

"Wait, what? Why?"

"Because both of you always win against us. I mean both of you have won all your fights. It's time you sparred against each other." Eli grinned and led Day to the training field. Chris was standing by the bench when Eli walked up to him. Eli dragged Chris and Day to the field.

"It's a non-weapon fight. First one to get the opponent on ground for more than a minute wins." Chris and Day sighed and looked at each other.

"Good luck Day."

"You too. You'll need it more than me, anyways."

Day grinned as Chris rolled his eyes and the fight began.

Day jumped as Chris lunged for her legs and side-stepped to create momentum. She ducked low and kicked at Chris's legs. He was on the ground. But he immediately got up and got ready to punch. Before he had time to react, Day grabbed his hand, pulled him forward and stepped to the side, watching his fall to the ground. You may be strong, but I can see your moves clearly, she thought. He got up again and started to kick at her legs.

He's to fast. Even for me, Chris realised. As he got ready to kick Day again, she punched him in the face. He scowled, his eyes widening in surprise at how much it hurt. Enraged, he lunged for her.

Suddenly, Chris was on top of Day. Both his hands holding her down. Day punched him in the stomach and twisted herself so that she was on top of him instead. He growled in anger and was about to punch her when she frowned.

"You're bleeding." Day said, touching his cut lip and showing Chris the blood.

"I didn't know I could hit that hard..." she said, more to herself than to Chris. He took advantage of her hesitation and pulled himself out of her hold. He slammed her to the ground. She grabbed his hand and pressed on a pressure point. His hand loosened around her's and he groaned in pain, sliding onto the mat.

"Thank for teaching me that." Day grinned as she nudged Chris. He let out another groan as he reached out to Day. She pulled him up and Eli helped her bring him to the bench.

"Your moves are too predictable, Chris. And no one's ever used pressure points on you. Those two are your weaknesses." Day said to him.

"My head hurts. Just take me to my room." Chris grumbled. Day rolled her eyes and dragged him to his room.

"It hurts..." whined Chris, rubbing his hand. He was lying on the bed with Day sitting across from him.

"You'll be fine." she said. Chris nodded, closing his eyes. Both sat in comfortable silence for the next half hour before Day got up to leave. Chris's eyes were still closed. He's sleeping. She shook him awake.

"I've got to go, but I need to ask you something." she said. Chris groggily rubbed his eyes,

"What?"

"Well, we're only training. We haven't actually patrolled Cilane for criminal runaways from Lidan. Don't you think it's time for us to start making rounds around the city area?" she asked. Chris rubbed his head.

"You're right. That was part of the promise my dad made you. We would protect the kingdom together. How about we start after the New Year's Festival?" he suggested.

"Wait, when exactly is that?" she asked.

"Tomorrow night, I think."

"Wait, what!" Day almost yelled. How did I forget it's already the 30th of December? she wondered. Time flew fast when she was training.

"Okay, a day after the Festival works." Day said finally, opening the door. "Bye. See you tomorrow night. I'm taking the rest of today and tomorrow morning off." Before Chris could protest, she closed the door and headed for her room.
