"I can't believe Alpha sent us on another patrol!" a dragon-winged wolf whined in a hushed voice. He was walking through a large area of tall, golden grass with two other winged wolves. "What's he got planned for these wolves?"

"If we hear one more yelp out of you, that Fang wolf will hear us and attack us! Keep your muzzle shut, Venom!" an orange butterfly-winged wolf glared at the whining wolf, whose silver wings matched the shade of light coming from the full moon.

"I'm sorry, Monarch," Venom replied, his fur bristling slightly with annoyance. "It's just that this is our fifth patrol in three days! I'm sick and tired of walking in and spying on the Shadow camp for a few hours, then report back to the Alpha that nothing new has come up!"

"Will you please shut up?" the Hawk wolf behind them growled. His pelt was a dark brown color that looked black in the night. "You'll get us all skinned alive if you won't stop arguing!"

The three wolves stopped at the edge of a small cliff. At the bottom of the cliff was a small clearing, full of dens that were crafted by boulders many years ago. The Shadow Pack campsite. However, despite its usual liveliness, it was quiet and empty.

"Where are all of the Shadow wolves?" Venom growled, staring in anger at his old camp. "Do we have to announce another null report?"

"That meeting was to be held tonight," the brown Hawk wolf replied in his eerie low voice. Whenever he talked to you, it usually sent a shiver down your spine, as if the air suddenly got very cold. Those that were close to him were used to his chilling tone, and could easily have a normal conversation with him.

Suddenly, a tiny black pup with jet-black wings bolted out of one of the dens of the campsite.

"Go, Raven!" a female voice called. "Go find Dawn!"

"Isn't that the Shadow she-wolf who was dating that Hawk wolf?" Venom asked the rogue wolves about the voice.

Monarch nodded. "Should we tell Rustle about this, Bramble?"

The brown ex-Hawk wolf grinned evilly. "Yes. I believe he'll find Andromeda's pup very interesting."
