Chapter XXIII.

Gone With a Gust of Wind

She was sleeping. He was walking. She was innocent. He was spoiled. She was vulnerable. He was strong. She wanted peace and harmony. He wanted her. Within minutes after he was let go of his restrains, he walked into her room.

He sneaked in and sat on her bed. "Odette..." He whispered watching the girl of his dreams in her sleep. Her face was soft and clear like one of a baby while her hair looked wild and beautiful. He couldn't risk her resisting and getting him caught again while also he couldn't make himself leave without her.

He brushed his fingers through her long light brown hair and whispered: "I'm sorry I have to do this this way but you'll thank me later... Once you will understand why I did what I did."

He picked her up in his muscular arms, in her white sleepwear. She had a medium length soft cotton dress. It was light like white rose petals bathing her skin.

Never before he had felt this bad urge to touch her, to hold her, to kiss her... Resistance was so hard to keep but he managed to do so and now he used all of his power for his skills and spells to become one blinking from a place to place, disappearing from the sight of the Capital of the Light. The magic allowed him to travel faster than anybody could follow.

The umbrella wielder had no idea something was happening while she and the two other men were having a conversation about the recent fights and thefteries. She was just thinking about the meaning of it all, obviously, Argus, the fallen angel has recruited few allies to help him fight for him while he is weak but what were his plans further on?

"Well, we can do nothing until we get some information out of the knight, he is all we have for now, our only clue." Hylos stated, walking around the room in a circle. It was his way of concentrating and thinking.

Hayabusa nodded, deep in his thoughts too."I just hope he'll co-operate. If not, we're in trouble." This was their top priority. They couldn't possibly allow Argus take over the land but if he successfuly recovers his wings, his powers might be even greater than before, too strong for any of them to handle.

The door of the room then opened and Natalia rushed in. "Guys! We have a problem! Lancelot is gone!" She said.

Kagura and Hayabusa gazed at Natalia. "Um... Who's that?" The girl in blue kimono whispered to her guard who was sitting mext to her. He was equally confused as her and replied with a quick shrug.

Hylos' eyes widened. "What? Impossible! How did he manage to do so?! You were watching over him, weren't you? No. Without him we have nothing!"

The white haired assassin shrugged. "I don't know. I had to use the restroom and so he was gone..." She said, looking a bit worried too. "And he even got Odette with him!" She was nervously rubbing the golden claw on her hand, hoping it would turn out as she planned.

Hylos sighed. "Man... This is bad..." He quickly rushed out of the room and towards the room where the Swan Princess slept. The rest of the group followed him, not wanting to fall behing on any new discoveries.

Once they were in the room, Hylos looked around. Everything was perfectly in its place. "No signs of resistance... This is weird. Did she perhaps agree on coming with him?" He asked, after what he had seen last night, it was a logical explanation, to him at least. "But how did they get out without anybody noticing them?"

Natalia then smelled something and walked towards the window where the smell just intensified. Nobody else could feel it but an assassin trained to kill mages could recognise the smell amongst thousands of other smells, magic dust. "Or, there could be a different chain of events, he maybe grabbed her while she was sleeping, and then used a spell to escape unnoticed. I feel magic dust in the air."

With no explanation recieved, Kagura ans Hayabusa were just blankly staring at the other two who just seemed to be figuring out something very important. The boy whispered: "Do you feel anything? Because I don't and this girl is suspitious."

Hylos nodded to Natalia. "That might be a possibility too. Do you think you can track them?" He asked, hoping to find them. Despite his low chances with Odette, more than anything, he wanted to know she is alright and his heart wouldn't allow him to fall asleep peacefully until he was sure.

Kagura gazed at the mysterious girl they knew less or more nothing about. She was swirling the handle of her umbrella between her fingers out of boredom. "Actually, I do... I think she's telling the truth about this one but..."

She then grinned. "Of course I can. But we'll need to hurry until the wind blows away the trail I can follow." She said. Everything was going well for her, for now at least. She quickly put on her white hood and turned to the centaur, who was also covered in colour white, just like her. "Hehe, serving the dark while working in darkness. I like it." She said.

The yin and yang mage sighed. "She is hiding something. She had other motives. I can feel it in the way she speaks, the way she acts. I would be cautious when working with her." She whispered back to her boyfriend.

The Minister of War now said: "There is no time to waste then. Listen up here, Natalia and I will go after them. You go find Freya and warn her about what's happening. Tell her to gather up my men, if everything goes well, we might even find out where Argus' hideout is." He then opened the glass door that were leading to the balcony. He got out and Natalia followed close behind him.

"B-but wait! How do we inform her about what's happening if we have no idea ourselves?! We don't even know where she--" Kagura shouted after them but too late, they have already jumped off and set off on a journey after Lancelot while the young girl's voice was just getting lost in the mass of noises in late spring.

"And they're gone..." She mumbled. "Why are people like this, expecting everybody to know everything they know. I don't even know what does that girl look like." She crossed her arms and gazed at the ninja who was standing next to her.

The boy sighed. "I guess we better go look for her. I mean, how hard can it be to find a war angel who is famous all over the world?" After saying that, the two walked outside and started looking for the girl just to find out how hard it actually is.

Ever since Lancelot left and Argus got knocked out by the amount of alcohol he consumed, in his dungeon silence ruled everywhere, even Ruby was embraced by silence that was absorbing the soft crying and sobbing that was coming from the little red-hooded girl. She was sad, worse, desperate, broken and torn apart by her feelings.

She loved a man but he didn't like her back and there was nothing she could do. After their conversation earlier, she just put him down in the cellar before crashing on the ground and crying like a rainy cloud. She didn't know what to do nor how to act. What was she doing wrong?

Alucard, in other hand, sighed in relief as soon as he was let go of her grip. He was scared of her and that wasn't going in her favour. She was very possesive when all he wanted from her was a normal friend he could count on when he needed help and everything would be fine. He just didn't think about his part and his role in the friendship, he didn't think about him helping her as a good friend.

Their relationship just wasn't destined to work out but in other hand, there is another candidat for his heart. There is the silver flower fulle revealing her beauty only when bathing in moonlight and now was also stuck in the cellar just like the demon hunter, in fact, they were sitting one by another.

"This is bad..." Miya mumbled. "We have to find a way out. They'll kill us. For them we're no more than toys now..." She was obviously worried. Her body was balled up and leaned against the wall.

"You're probably right about that one..." Alucard said and  gazed at the elf thinking about what she said. The red mark on her cheek couldn't pass unnoticed. "Wait... What is that?" He asked turning to her and caressing her cheek.

"Ah- nothing..." She replied, the gentle touch of his hand slightly calming her down. "It's just- Karina is pissed... She is blaming me for everything that went wrong in her whole life." While she was saying that, she just sunk deeper in the warmth of his hand.

"H-hey. Everything will be alright. Look. I promised your father I'd take care of you and I am planning on keeping the promise." He said placing his other hand on her shoulder.

The girl pulled away. "It's just for the gold or reward. Am I wrong? You're willing to do anything for money, huh? Then what if I told you I could give you nothing?" She asked, sounding broken by fear. She didn't even know who was her enemy after all because in the darkness all faces look dark.

"No. I'm not doing this because of that." The boy started. Then he pulled her back closer and she literally fell in his hug, stopping against his chest with two crystal clear tears in eyes and soft pink blush on her cheeks. "Not everybody here is your enemy." He continued speaking and embraced her tightly.

"I promise I'll get you out of here, even if I have to lay my head down for you." He said holding her close. "Just calm down. I'm here now, for you."

This sentance made him remember his promise to Ruby. This was second time, the new chance for him and he didn't want to screw up. He decided to keep his promise this time, he isn't going to break his word nor a girl's heart again.

It continued before the door of the cellar opened. A new girl was thrown in it. "Let me go!!" She screamed. The man who threw her in had a smirk on his face but couldn't be recognised in the surrounding darkness. It was late afternoon and the hallways were filled with empty darkness with only course of light for the three in the cell being a burning torch.

The girl was wearing a white dress, was tied with a small white piece od cloth and was struggling against the restrains. She was lying on the floor, her body slowly going motionless and her head just slightly tilted upwards gazing at the other two.

"May I get a little help here?" The Swan Princess asked. "Please..."
