TWO

After a while of sitting in the kapa grove and mulling things over, I realized just how dark it was getting. On Suf, after the sun goes down, every light extinguished from unknown causes and there's no light anywhere. It's completely normal, but you must remember to get inside before dark. There was no chance of getting home now, because the sun was almost behind the hills.

I scrambled up, in my panic forgetting the most important instructions: in case of getting lost in the dark, stay where you are. Instead, I stupidly walked blindly around, wondering what to do.

I accidentally banged my head against a kapa, and fell. I instantly blacked out.

When I came to, my panic was even stronger. What if I'd just gotten a serious head injury? My thoughts were racing around when a strange feeling came over me. It was ... like my skin was hot and moving, and suddenly something shot out of my hand.

Fire.

Fire was not supposed to be one of the 35 powers on Suf. Fire was not allowed. Fire had been the cause of the Seven Wars, when the only fire power ever accidentally destroyed a city.

I tried to stop the flames reaching out from my hands, but they wouldn't stop. I was frantic. Anyone for miles could see the only light in the darkness, and would soon find me.

From the light of my fire, I noticed a bush a little ways off. I smothered my hands in it, and soon it died down.

I sat down and panted, wondering what had just happened. I stayed there the rest of the night, in fear and wonder.

Finally the sun rose, and I realized that I was completely lost. I'd walked farther then I thought. The only thing I could see in the distance was a tiny hit, at the beginning of the Great Whids (whids are like sand, except fluffy and orange). As it was my only option, I headed towards the hut. A few hours passed before I reached it.

Quite hungry and thristy, I didn't think of knocking, only pushed the door open and went inside. There was no one, and again, in my hunger, I just headed for the pantry and made myself some food.

I'd only just finished when the door opened, and a girl slightly older then I stepped in. She had extremely long hazel hair in two pigtails tucked in her belt, with piercing blue eyes and tan skin. She didn't bat an eye, but casually pulled out a kirshich (sort of like a pistol, but it can be filled with different kinds of fuel, such as water, fire, etc.) and shot it at me. I was immeadiately engulfed in fire, and surprisingly, my skin didn't burn. It did hurt, though, and I was paralyzed with the pain.

Satisfied, the girl sat down with a smile. It seemed to be a long time before the pain started to fade, and she continued to watch me.

Finally, I could move again and there was no pain. The girl immeadiately stood up, her kirshich aimed.

"If you make one move, I'm clicking the trigger. And you won't be so lucky then." She said. Her voice was sort of clipped and accented, but I couldn't place it.

"I- I don't mean any harm. I got- got lost. And needed food." I hurried to say, wincing. I felt kind of foggy. Her eyes narrowed.

"They all say that," she muttered. Something stirred in me. A hint of flame sparked at my hand, and I struggled to push it down. No one could see!

She saw. Her face changed slightly.

"You're a newly, aren't you." She asked, but it was more a statement then a question.

"I don't know what you're talking about." I replied nervously. She sighed.

"Let's just say you just realized you can do this," She said, and flicked her hand. Fire swarmed it like a halo, sparking and growing higher. I gasped. She smirked.

"Yep. Don't try anything, you'll regret it. Newlys can't control it. Now, who are you and how did you find me?" She asked.

"I'd like to hear who you are first," I tried.

"Ooh, a feisty one. I like it, but don't try anything. As you're the one who just broke into my house, I think you should go first." Her mouth twitched slightly. I relented.

"Clea's my name. I stayed out too late, and got lost in the dark. When sunrise came, your house was the only one I could see." I said vaguely. She nodded slowly.

"And let me guess, in the night your hand started flaming, didn't it?" I gaped at her. How did she know so much? Well, there was no going back now. I nodded reluctantly.

"Welcome to the club. I'm Sadie Palac, missing in action. And I'm going to train you."

Thus began my long and convoluted friendship with this girl I'd only just met, but would soon become everything.

Yay, first two chapters are up! Even with an outline, it's always hard to start the story. With those first two up, I'm hoping the story will start flowing and you'll get updates maybe even every day! Stay tuned, and please continue to give feedback. It really helps.
