01. Preparation
Allison Barnes
The young teenager stood outside the balcony of her room. Taking in the many scents the air was carrying, the bread and fresh baked goods from the bakery shop just down the block, the smell of green grass floated into her nostrils and the aroma of beautiful flowers made a smile form on the 18 year old's face.
Allison walked back into her room, sliding the glass door and twisting the small lock into place. Today was the day. Today was the day in which her father and her would avenge her brother, Nicholas. Allison walked over to her nightstand and picked up a picture, the wooden frame on it read "A gift sent from above, a baby brother to protect and love." in big gold cursive letters.
It wasn't just one picture, it was a collage of them in the rectangular frame. Allison was holding her brother and kissing his cheek in one picture, in the other he was kissing her cheek, the third picture was Allison giving Nicolas a piggy back ride and the fourth and final picture Allison was asleep while holding her also sleeping brother. Tears escaped out of Allison's brown eyes and she held the picture frame to her chest.
A faint knock suddenly came from the front door. Allison put down the picture frame and wiped her tears away as she opened the door to her room and walked down the hall quietly trying not to make any noise. Once she reached the end of the hall she peeked her head over the wall slightly to see her father opening the door. A voice spoke, it was familiar to Allison therefore she knew who it was in an instant.
"I've been calling why haven't you picked up?" Her mother, Janice asked.
"What are you doing here?" Allison heard her father ask.
"You can't go out there. Not with my daughter, don't do this it won't make you feel any better."
"She's our daughter. I'll keep her safe more than you ever did. Go to your new husband and your new family leave." Leo said coldly.
"Stay safe and take care of Allison." Allison peeked over and saw her mother plant a kiss on her father's cheek. Leo closed the door to the apartment.
"You too." He said replying to the comment Janice told him once she left. Allison walked back quietly to her room closing the door carefully. She picked up once again the collage of pictures of her and Nicholas and caressed the frame with her thumb. A soft knock came from the other side of her door moments later.
"Come in." Allison said. Leo walked in, Allison gave him a weak smile as he sat down next to her. He looked down and saw the picture frame in Allison's hands.
"How are you doing kiddo?" Leo asked his daughter.
Allison sighed, "I miss him dad." She replied while putting her head on his shoulder and looking at the pictures.
Leo wrapped an arm around his daughter. "I know I miss him too but you know what you keep me strong." Leo said.
Allison looked up and locked her brown eyes with her father's identical brown eyes. "How?" She asked. If you looked at both of her parents the resemble between her and Leo was noticeable, she looked almost identical to him. She had his brown eyes, her face was structured just like Leo's, with a sharp jawline and thin nose. Allison also had inherited his bravery, toughness and for sure his good looks.
"When you were in that coma the doctor said you only had a 10 percent chance of waking up again. It broke my heart seeing that those tubes and needles were the only things keeping you alive at that moment. I lost your brother, I couldn't loose you. You were my first born, my only daughter, my little girl. When you woke up it was a miracle I prayed everyday hoping, wishing that you would stay and live. When you did my entire life became better. You make my life better." Leo finished.
"Dad thank you that is so sweet." Allison said hugging her father and Leo kissed his daughter's forehead. "You're the best father I could ever ask for." She continued.
"And you're the best daughter I could ever ask for." Leo said. The two stayed silent for a moment until Allison spoke up.
"Let's avenge Nick dad, we have to get back that bastard who took him away." Allison said, determination in her voice.
"We will get him back you'll see. I need to load my guns in the meantime get dressed and load the rest of your guns. We have a couple of hours until the Purge starts. I'll knock on your door when it's time to go." Leo instructed.
"Alright dad I'll see you later." Allison said as Leo walked out of her bedroom and closed the door. Allison picked up once again the pictures of her and her brother. "Don't worry Nick, we're going to get revenge on Warren for what he did to you and everything is going to be okay." Allison said.
Determination now ran through her veins as she looked up, after this day she would no longer be the same girl. Everything would change.
