Chapter 6: Drone Chasing
Ladybug's P.O.V.
We silently swung through the streets of Paris, following the Dark Owl's drone. The drone that was going to lead us to Hawk Moth and end this battle once and for all.
Every second drew us closer to knowing Hawk Moth's identity. On and on we followed the drone. As we chased it, I began to feel a familiarity to my surroundings. Every landmark, building, post sign. I had seen them countless times. I had seen them every time I walked to... Adrien's house...
No. Surely not. Surely the drone would just pass the Agreste Residence. It couldn't lead to it. Yet the drone continued it's straightforward course towards the mansion.
Beside me, Chat Noir seemed to not notice our surroundings, his eyes lazer-focused on the drone. For his sake, I hoped I was wrong.
I know I had once suspected Gabriel, but that was before he had been Akumatized into the Collector... unless...
I did not want to finish that dreaded thought, yet it clawed its way out anyway.
That he had been Hawk Moth all along, and had been been cruel enough to Akumatize himself to us off his scent. And we had fallen for it.
That single thought chilled me to the bone.
The white mansion came into view. The drone rose up to meet it's intimidating presence.
We could only halt and watch as the drone flew, right into the large circular window at the top of the Agreste Mansion. There was no doubt about it, this was the drone's final destination.
I felt Chat Noir freeze beside me, his eyes stuck to the window through which the drone had entered. Under his breath, so faintly that I could barely hear it, he gave a half-sob,
"No!"
Turning to him, I saw the upmost dismay and disbelief upon his face. He turned to me, an almost-hollow look in his eyes, he hoarsely begged, pleaded,
"M'lady... please tell me I'm wrong!"
I could only gently shake my head,
"I'm sorry Adrien. I'm so sorry."
He backed away as I tried to consolingly pat him, his eyes taking on a wild gleam.
"No... no! It can't be... he can't... Father can't be... no!" He choked on his words, and silent tears began to stream down his cheeks. I drew closer and tightly wrapped my arms around him.
"I'm sorry." Was all I could say.
His head snapped up, almost angrily,
"How could he do this? I've already lost Mother... I can't... I can't lose him too. He is all I've got left!" A loud sob almost strangled him.
An array of mixed emotions flashed through his face. Dismay, grief, anger.
He shook off my arm and began to pace with extreme agitation, murmuring to himself,
"He is Hawk Moth. I've been fighting my father all this time. I can't believe it. Why would he do this... he's a good man, he wouldn't hurt anyone. But... why. How could he do this to me? Why!?" He began to claw at himself in grief.
"Chat." I said, but he didn't respond, "Chat."
Ge looked up, his eyes filled with such anguish that I felt the sting of tears threatening my own eyes.
"Oh my poor kitty..." I exhaled, "I know it's difficult, but we've just got to get back to Bunnix, then we can figure this out... okay?"
He gave an almost unhuman growl,
"But it's not okay! My freaking father is HAWK MOTH. How could he do this? How could he have hurt so many people? I-I just can't handle this M'Lady... it's too much!"
I comforted him,
"It's okay Chat... I believe in you. You are the strongest person I know. You can do this kitty."
His cat ears seemed to droop down, slanting backwards. He whispered,
"But I don't think I can."
I attempted to sooth him by touch, but he irritably turned around and strode a few steps away, his pain speaking volumes in every harsh movement.
"How could he do this? HOW?" He began to half-scream, "how could he do this to me? Why would he do this? WHY?"
He was completely and utterly distraught.
