Chapter 17: Mayura

Natalie’s P.O.V.

I watched as Gabri- I mean, Mr Agreste stormed into ‘The Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie’, flinging the door open so harshly that I could hear the bell even from within the car. Alone, I pursed my lips, allowing a look of sadness to cross my face. Of course, I admired all that Gabriel did, the depth of his love for Emilie. Yet… I have begun to wonder whether the bad will outweigh the good in the end. I continue to support Gabriel, and I always will.
Little by little, my admiration for Gabriel, a man who'd do anything for his family, has grown into something more.
For I... love him. I had been scared to admit it to myself, but that was the truth. Seeing his immense love for Emilie, all that he was willing to do to make his family happy again…

I gave a small sigh and massaged my forehead. I know it’s wrong, but I love him. Yet he never seems to return my affections.

My mind wandered to Gabriel’s theory about Adrien and Marinette dating. It was possible, very possible. And, although Adrien had disobeyed Mr Agreste’s order, I couldn’t help but understand why he might have done so. Despite my best efforts, Gabriel refused to even have breakfast with the boy, let alone spend time with him. The best success I had was when he watched Emilie’s movie with Adrien, after Adrien had snuck out to see it in cinemas. But since then, he seemed to have grown even more distant from Adrien. It was only natural that Adrien would seek comfort from a friend, especially one so bubbly and cheerful – the exact opposite of his father.

I thought back to Gabriel's focus. His intent in getting Ladybug and Chat Noir's Miraculous. To bring Emilie back.
He has hurt many people all for this sake. And lately I have begun to wonder whether it might be better if Gabriel gave up, and ceased to hurt people, as he had said he would do after Style Queen failed.

Yet I can't help but think that maybe the only reason I want Gabriel to stop trying to get the Ladybug and Chat Noir miraculous is so that Emilie would never return. So that he may be forced to focus on me.

I gave another sigh as my head continued to pound.
Is love always this difficult?

Sabine's P.O.V.

Tom and I jumped as the Bakery door was flung open and banged against the wall.
We turned to see who had made such a noise, and paled.
Gabriel Agreste. In person.

Not even pausing for pleasantries, Mr Agreste demanded,
"Where is my son!?"

Tom and I glanced at each other, blocking the entrance to the apartment behind the counter. Despite Marinette's lame excuse, we both knew that Adrien had been sobbing earlier, and now we had no doubt that his Father was somehow the cause. We knew that Mr Agreste did not know about Marinette and Adrien's relationship, and we understood why.

Mr Agreste made a move to push past, but Tom and I bristled, blocking his way. Over these last few months, Adrien had become like a son to us, and there was no way we were going to let anything happen to him whilst he was under our roof.

Gabriel glared at us,
"Let. Me. Through."

We remained where we were, defiantly glaring back at him.

He growled menacingly,
"Do know who I am!? I could ruin your reputation if I so chose!"

Neither of us flinched at his immense anger, remaining steadfast in our love for Adrien, and refusal to give him up to this cruel man.

Tom calmly but firmly spoke,
"No."

A vein almost popped out of Gabriel's forehead.
"What did you just say?" He hissed.

I glared back at him.
"No. We will not let you through."

"How dare you!"

3rd Person's P.O.V.

It was time to go through with the plan.
In a car, just outside the bakery, a woman turned on the window tinting function, preventing anyone from seeing inside the car, pinning the Miraculous of the Peacock to her lapel.
The royal blue kwami anxiously hovered nearby,
"No, please don't do this-"
"Be quiet Duusuu."
"But-"
"Be quiet." She snapped, massaging her aching head and silencing the whiny Kwami.
The woman tightly shut her eyes for a second, blinding herself to the Kwami's pleading expression. Then, drawing in a deep breath, she spoke,
"Duusuu, Spread my Feathers!"

The lady transformed into the holder of the Peacock Miraculous, infamously known as "Mayura".

Plucking a feather from her fan, she delicately infused it with her dark power, before gently pressing it against her glasses. She tightly closed her eyes, once more attempting to push away the pain of her migraine, then motioned at the air as her creation came to life.

She opened her eyes and spoke to the purple butterfly that hovered in front of her,
"Go my Senti-akuma, and evilise this angry father."

Gabriel and the two protective parents were shouting at each other now, with Tom and Sabine refusing to budge. Above, Marinette and Adrien paused as they heard the fight going on, both of them looking at each other, eyes wide.

The akuma swiftly entered Gabriel's tie, and the woman spoke telepathically to hin,
"Be quick. And, sir, please don't be too angry with Adrien... he is still young."

Gabriel evilly smirked,
"Yes, 'Hawk Moth'."

Hearing this, fear clouded Tom and Sabine's face as a dark purple mist covered Gabriel.

The mist faded to reveal a sinister figure who gave a cruel smile,
"Now... do you still object to me seeing my son?"
