Chapter 13: Plagg?

Marinette's P.O.V.

"Adrien!" I called out, running through the streets, searching for my kitty. I felt worried as I failed to find him. Given how upset he was, I knew he was bound to either get akumatized or do something risky.
Yet again, I tried ringing him, with still no response.
Every part of me was aching to just transform into Ladybug, but I knew that to do such a thing would be foolish, for if someone saw me trying to find Adrien, word might somehow get back to Gabriel Agreste that Ladybug was looking for his son, and at a time like this, that would be especially bad.

"Adrien!" I called out yet again, getting odd looks from many passerbyers. I opened my mouth, about to call again, when a dark shape shot past me and dove into my pocket, hissing,
"Marinette."

I turned and went to a more secluded spot, away from the prying eyes of the public.
Plagg floated before me, and his expression struck a cold hand of dread over my heart,
"Plagg? Where's Adrien!?"

Tikki also floated up out of my purse, and I could tell she was just as concerned as I was.

I felt a gasp of shock escape me as Plagg held forth the Miraculous of the black cat, his expression bleak and his ears despondently drooping.
"I'm sorry Marinette. I tried reasoning with him but he wouldn't listen to me. He..." he tightly shut his eyes, as though it were too painful to say the words, "...got akumatized."

Although I felt filled with despair at the thought of kind, sweet Adrien being Akumatized, I knew that Plagg was not to blame. I gave him a gentle scratch behind the ears and I couldn't help but give a small giggle at Plagg's purrs,
"It's okay Plagg. I know you tried your best. Did he say anything to you before he got akumatized?"

Plagg's eyes grew moist,
"He said lots of things. But the last thing he said was that he was sorry, but he had to find out." He paused, then continued, "finding out that his Father was Hawk Moth completely shattered his soul. He- it broke him Marinette. He became so distrustful."
He looked up, in his eyes and voice a plea,
"Please save him Marinette."

Tikki moved close to him and gave him a big hug.

Swallowing to get rid of the choking notion that had clouded me, I attempted to reassure Plagg,
"I will. But for now, it is probably best if you go back to Master Fu and explain what has happened."

He nodded, gave Tikki one last squeeze of the paw, and turned, about to go, when I suddenly remembered something,
"Oh and Plagg?"
"Yes?" He responded, his tone still sad.
"Did you see where the Akuma went?"
He nodded, "yes, it went into his shoes."
"Okay, thanks Plagg."

I waited a few moments as he got out of sight, then I flung my head into my hands
"Oh Tikki! I don't know what to do. Should I approach him as Marinette or Ladybug? Whatever am I meant to do? How can I fight Adrien?"

Tikki hovered anxiously nearby, and even she had no reassurances for a few moments. Then she gave me a cuddle on the side of my face and comforted me,
"Oh Marinette. It's okay. I trust you, I know you'll be able to save Adrien!"

I smiled,
"Aww thanks Tikki."
Then I sat down and thought for a little while,
"I guess I should probably see if I can talk him down as Marinette first... I'd hate to hurt him as Ladybug. Plus, if I go as Marinette there is less chance that he will accidently give away my secret identity."

Tikki nodded, giving another hooray of encouragement,
"See, Marinette? I knew you could do it!"

I opened my purse and she flew in, then I turned and walked out of the alleyway, heading towards the screams that had begun a few blocks away.
Just hang on Adrien.
