Thirteen

Shoreditch Police Station, Friday 12:00

Lyn sat in the plain wooden chair in front of the plain wooden desk and watched the detective get himself organised. He dug out pens and a notebook and switched on a voice recorder. After making the usual preamble he spent the next half hour asking Lyn questions about her office, the lab and what she did there. When it came to the question of what she thought the motive for the attack might have been she had no answers.

"I don't know why were were targeted. I've never heard of this happening to any of the other biotech labs we work with, in any country."

"Early indications are that this was a failed robbery."

"He blew up the lab!"

"But he was apprehended while trying to escape with some biological samples."

"Genetic samples. Yes. But I don't know why he would want them. The information on that dna is already public, and free."

"Is there anything special or significant about the dna?"

"Nothing."

"How can you be sure?"

"Because I have a Masters in Biochemistry from Cambridge, and a Phd in genetics from University College London, and I founded that lab. And because the dna is mine."

The detective looked up from his notebook.

"You keep your own dna in the lab?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Why not? It's a genetics lab! Where do you suggest I keep it?"

The detective made a note, and then repeated hisquestions.
