"Run, Luna! You have to run from the moon, she's planning the extinction of our species! You and your friends must run!" said a voice in my head.

We've been packing since at least dawn. The voice kept telling me to run over and over again. Why run? Why would the moon hate my kind so much?

"Luna, you ok?" Maddy asked me.

"Ya, I'm fine. How much longer 'til we get to your guys' safe house?" i asked after answering her question.

"At least another day's walk for me, landon, and Danielle. For you and Bailey, maybe half a day of sprinting as wolves." Landon replied.

"Or maybe we can become werewolves. How bad could it be to be able to become a wolf?" Danielle suggested.

"I don't know how to make someone into a werewolf, i don't even know how to shift!" i said, my voice going up an octave when i said "shift". I hated the idea of becoming a wolf unless i really had to, and it is true that i don't know how to shift.

There was a rustle in a near by bush and Bailey shifted into his wolf while i pulled out my dagger that my dad gave me for my 12th birthday. Bailey slowly crept to the bush and when he dove behind it, a scream filled the air. Bailey came back over to us with a girl that he was dragging by the collar of her shirt. We started laughing and the girl looked frightened. She had ruby red eyes and brown hair.

"Bailey, let her go. She's frightened." Maddy told him.

Bailey let the girl go and shifted back. The girl's ruby red eyes landed right on him. I looked right at her and a low growl sounded from my throat, warning her not to look at him like that.

"What's your name, miss?" Danielle asked the girl.

"E-Emily..." she said in a quiet voice.

"Im Luna and this is Maddy, Bailey, Danielle, and landon. We're running away from dangers caused by the moon. Why are you out here, Emily?" i asked.

"My family was killed by hunters and i was told to run into these woods." Emily said, a tear falling down her cheek.

"My family was killed last month by hunters and i was told to run away with these guys." i motioned at everyone, "and we need to get to a certain place by tonight."

"Where?" she asked.

"A hide out that would protect us from the moon. Would you like to come?" Bailey asked. "The more people we have, the better we can survive."

i stared at bailey like he was right. The more people with us, the better the odds.

Emily stood up and hugged Bailey. She was crying and he was telling her to calm down.

"Its getting late and there's a cave about a meter away. Lets head there for the night." Landon said.

We all went to the cave. It was huge. There was enough room for everyone and more. Emily, Maddy, and Danielle went into the back of the cave and went to sleep. Me and Landon and Bailey stayed up and kept watch at the mouth of the cave. It grew cold and landon went onto the girls and to sleep, leaving me and Bailey to keep watch.

Bailey shifted so he could stay warm in the winter night air. I stayed in my human form because i hate shifting, all the pain would make me go insane. I suddenly remember what my parents did on cold nights like this. They would make baked goods with me and tell stories about werewolves and the moon. They would even make a fire in our little fire place, letting me put the wood in and just watch as the flames ate the wood and grew. I felt tears roll down my cheek.

I grabbed my knees and pulled them to my chest, hiding my face from everyone and the night. I felt someone wrap their arms around me. The tears stopped and i looked up to see Bailey, in his human form, holding me tight. The expression on his face was caring and scared.

"Its ok, luna. Don't worry about your parents or the dangers out here, we're all safe." he muttered. He then let me go and shifted into his wolf again, walking into the back of the cave.

I still felt broken. "Why do you take all I've loved? Why do you hate my kind? Please answer me, evil moon! There has to be something inside you that makes you believe that we won't harm you at all!" i yelled at the empty night. A wolf's howl was the only sound in the night. I looked back at everyone. They were all asleep.

I walked out of the cave and started walking around the area. It was beautiful at night and it was a new moon, the moon isn't out tonight.

"It's beautiful tonight, isn't it?" asked a voice behind me.

"Yeah, it is." i said.

I turned around and what i saw wasn't beautiful. It was frightening. The voice was a monster with eyes as red as blood and teeth as sharp as daggers. It stared right into my eyes and shifted into my wolf without thinking and i let out an ear piercing howl to let Bailey and everyone know that there's danger. The monster tried to grab me but i bolted away.

The monster was chasing me back to the cave. I took a hard left and a hard right, leaping over logs and rocks. I finally came to a dead end and was trapped.

"Nice try, little mutt!" the monster boomed.

I leaped at the monster and broke it's neck in one blow. I ran back to everyone and shifted back, falling onto the hard rock ground.

Someone caught me but i didn't know who. I closed my eyes and went to sleep.

"Luna, you must be careful. There's evils out there that will do anything for the moon and you must stay with everyone with you. They'll have your back and you'll have their backs." someone said in my head.

When i woke up the next morning, bailey was still asleep between me and Emily, who was also still asleep. I got up and shifted into my wolf. I could now shift on will. I walked to the entrance of the cave once i shifted back to my human form and saw Maddy and Landon talking about something outside and saw Danielle playing in the snow that had appeared over night. Everyone was happy and content, but me. I wrapped my fingers around the necklace my mom gave me and a lonely tear fell down my cheek, even the thought of my parents sent me into a crying state. I blinked several time, trying to stop the tears and i did. I let go of the necklace around my neck and went to play with Danielle in the snow.
