Eavesdropping
Nick Fury sat in the small motel room, on the equally small armchair over by the bed. Bruce Banner sat on the couch near the closet, sitting close to the edge of the seat as though he was nervous. Nick regarded him colds, eyes glinting in the lamp light.
" You know exactly why I'm here, Banner," the director stated matter of factly.
" Indeed, and the answer is still the same. I am not joining your stupid little Avengers, not now, not ever," Bruce answered back just as calmly.
Both men glared at each other, and a silent stand off was held.
" Just how long do you think the Hulk can hide from General Ross?" Fury asked innocently.
" Not long when I'm the Hulk, but Bruce Banner can hide from General Ross easily," Bruce defended, eyes narrowing dangerously.
He was sick and tired of being referred to as the Hulk, always been told he should be using his strength on the Avengers team. He was not defined by the stupid Hulk! Why couldn't anyone see that?
Your daughter understands you. Kat gets you, Bruce, she's there for you. As long as she doesn't know about the Hulk, she will be fine, you will both be fine, and no Avengers or General Ross will stand in your way.
Bruce thought all that as he cast a quick glance to the closet where his daughter was currently sleeping.
" Mr Banner, you can hide from Ross, but you can't hide from this team. It is your destiny, and if I have to, I can find ways of...persuading...you to join the team," Fury stated dangerous, dark eyes narrowing.
Bruce felt his patience ebbing, if Fury found out about his child, would she be just a way of persuading him?
Kathryn Banner opened her eyes groggily. A raised voice had awoken her, and now she was freaking out. She was in a small dark space, and experience in hiding told her that this was a closet. How had she gotten in here?! She heard her father talking loudly outside the closet, and another man's voice roughly addressed him. So that was why she was in a closet, her father had hid her from a man who must have been bad.
" Mr Banner, you can hide from Ross, but you can't hide from this team. It is your destiny, and if I have to, I can find ways of...persuading...you to join the team," A strange voice said darkly.
Kat grimaced, what team? Destiny? Persuasion. She remembered that the man with the metal arm had told Rachel that killing Kat would be persuasion enough for her to run away from a vigilante life. The word persuasion made her blood run cold and she muffled a quiet sigh.
At her sigh, all talking ceased outside the closet, and Kat froze.
" What was that?" the strange man asked deeply.
" Nothing, probably rats outside," Her father answered him, but there was a shake in his voice.
" Well a hulk like you can surely deal with rats. They'll run when you turn green," the strange man chuckled.
THE HULK! WHAT??!! there was no way her dad was the Hulk, her favorite hero! No way.
" I just may turn green now if you don't leave," Growled Bruce, anger clear in his tone.
Kat covered her mouth to hide her gasp of surprise. Her dad was a superhero! So that explained how they had survived the car crash, and why he was running from that Ross guy.
" Fine, but know this, the ways of persuading I have, will convince you eventually," the strange man said crankily before the closing of the door was heard.
Kat heard a sigh of relief from her dad before the closet door was opened, and light flooded in. Bruce looked down at her as she looked up at him with wide eyes.
" YOU'RE THE HULK!" Kat cried out, gazing up at him with wide eyes.
Bruce hung his head, expecting her to instantly reject him.
" Yes," he admitted sullenly.
" THAT IS SO COOL! YOU ARE MY FAVORITE HERO OF ALL!!!" Kat yelled, leaping up and hugging Bruce's waist tightly.
