Chapter 8- Full Moon
"THE FULL MOON- THE MANDALA OF THE SKY." -Tom Robbins
ONYX RACED OUT at a dead sprint her white hair flying out behind her. Little was she aware that just a few yards away Remus was making his way towards the Whomping Willow with the help of Madam Pomfrey. She continued to run just hoping she wouldn't begin to transform before her mother could tell her what the heck was going on.
Her first week had been bloody awful, thanks to Black and a certain astronomy teacher she could never remember the name of, and that didn't help her stress levels one bit.
The white-haired girl was also worried that since her first and only spell had been one that should have been far beyond the capacity of a normal first year she might receive some attention from places she would rather not have any.
The tiny girl continued to run dodging nimbly over fallen trees and potholes until she nearly ran into the back end of a horse.
As the centaur whipped around to face her she was within seconds surrounded by the others that were traveling with the huge bay.
"What is your business in this forest tonight?" One of the larger centaurs asked the little girl bow pointed directly at her face.
Trying not to show how afraid she was Onyx stood up straight and replied meekly, "I'm sure you have either heard or seen the dragon in these woods. She would not take kindly to you if you hurt her daughter, now, would she?"
Instantly the centaurs made way for the little girl to continue along the path and before Onyx took off again she curtsied and said meekly but politely, "Thank you Mr. Centaur."
After about 10 more minutes of running Onyx finally reached a huge clearing and nestled in a ball at the other end was her mother.
Hearing her daughter's approach the Drakón quickly unraveled herself from her tight ball and stood, towering over Onyx's four foot eight frame.
"Onyx, you're going to have to take off everything you don't want to be ripped to shreds," Drakón said to her white-haired daughter.
Quickly obeying her mother's words Onyx stripped off her shirt and jeans and put them on a rock. Just as she succeeded in taking the last bracelet off she felt agonizing pain shoot through her body. As fast as she could she tossed her wand onto her pile of clothes and then crumpled to the ground as wave after wave of agony swept through her.
Then she felt her hair receding into her scalp, her skin began to scale over, and her bones began to lengthen and rearrange.
When the transformative was completely a pure white dragonet with black flecks beneath the eyes stood next to the towering black dragon.
Onyx felt like she was in a deep slumber. Not able to move or say a word and her thinking was slow and sluggish. Dimly she was aware of what her transformed body was doing but she couldn't do a thing to stop it.
The white dragonet lunged into the air ready to follow the tempting scent of wolf blood she gave only two flaps of her diminutive wings before she felt a massive foot slam down on her back, driving her shoulder first into the ground. Both dragons heard the crack and pop made by the white dragon's shoulder but neither paid any mind to it.
As the white dragonet began to struggle ferociously against Drakón's massive black foot the bigger dragon simply laid on the ground settling in for what was definitely to be a long night.
The was barely above the horizon before Onyx began to shift back into a human. The scales began to darken and become less scaly while the tail receded completely into the girl's body and soon Onyx's human form stood in front of her mother's gigantic body.
Overwhelming amounts of pain were shooting through the girl's shoulder but she quickly stopped paying attention to that as her mother held out a ring on her palm.
As the large black dragon poked the ring into Onyx's palm using one giant claw she smiled her toothy dragon smile before mind-speaking to the white-haired girl, "Read the inscription."
Carefully Onyx peered at the inside of the band of the ring and said aloud, "Made in Romania."
Teasingly Drakón said, "The other one."
Flushing bright with embarrassment Onyx shakily read out, "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus."
