Chapter 10- Snowball Fight

"A SNOWBALL IN THE FACE  IS SURELY THE PERFECT BEGINNING OF A LASTING FRIENDSHIP."  -Marcus Zusak

TIME HAD FLOWN by for the duo since they had arrived at Hogwarts and before either of them know it Christmas was upon them. Jasmine was going home to her family while Onyx was of course remaining at Hogwarts.

However, they still had one more day until the holidays.

Most teachers were just letting the students play games or talk quietly in class, because what is the point of teaching if no one is going to listen anyway?

However, nothing would stop Professor McGonagall from teaching Transfiguration until the very last second before the holidays and Professor Snape wanted to torture the student so he had them working on a poison antidote.

Or at least that's what Onyx thought as Jasmine held her hands over the cauldron to keep warm. Onyx personally felt like a little fire was lit inside her chest and didn't feel the cold at all, but all the other students looked like they were freezing their bums off.

Must be a dragon thing. Jasmine had Onyx read the last ingredient from the book and as she poured and measured it in they smiled triumphantly. They were finished.

Professor Slughorn tottered up to their caldron and took a look in before leaning back, "A perfect potion yet again. You girls make quite the team."

Jasmine said, "Thank you, sir."

Onyx grimaced. She was no good at potions. No good at all. It was Jasmine who was the brilliant one. Whenever Onyx tried to make a potion it never turned out quite right and her first potion had turned out so bad that she had to get Professor Slughorn to vanish it and she had to start all over again.

They collected some of the potion in a vial and set it on Professor Slughorn's desk before walking out of the classroom together.

Their final class of the day was finished.

Together the girl's went outside thinking it would be a fabulous to have a snowball fight to commemorate the start of the holidays. They each gave each other only a minutes time and then the first snowballs began to fly.

"Take that," Jasmine yelled as she threw a snowball at Onyx.

Time seemed to slow down for Onyx as adrenaline shot through her body. Letting out a laugh Onyx bent her upper back backward and watched as the snowball flew straight where her head would have been.

Onyx gathered up a massive ball of snow and charged Jasmine dodging every ball of snow Jasmine threw her way.

When Onyx was directly in front of Jasmine she smiled before dropping the massive snowball right on Jasmine's head while yelling, "Take that."

They continued their fight for several hours and when they were finally too tired to even breath properly the just collapsed in the snow and began to talk.

Onyx smiled contentedly barely feeling the cold as she said, "Jasmine, thank you for accepting all of my weirdness and not changing the way you act towards me."

"My pleasure. I'd do the same for anyone. After all, you don't control who your parents are." Jasmine replied.

A new voice joined the conversation, "No kidding."

Onyx grumbled at the familiar face she had grown to detest, "Black... How nice of you to join our conversation."

Sirius just gave her his usual irritating lopsided smirk before replying, "Well, you were talking so loud I figured you were welcoming anyone to join in."

Onyx gave him a glare that could cut through an ocean, "Anyone, but you would have been welcome."

"Ouch, that one really hurt," Sirius said mockingly a twinkle coming to his eye.

It took everything in Onyx not to throw a snowball into his mouth.

Then she reconsidered.

Maybe that wasn't such a bad idea after all.

As Sirius opened his mouth to begin to voice some stupid question Onyx didn't want to answer she smirked.

"So, Woods-"

He didn't get another word in as a ball of ice and snow was firmly stuck in his mouth.

Jasmine burst out laughing at his confused then mortified expression before jumping up and helping Onyx to their feet. Together they made their way to the entrance of the castle their robes dripping everywhere but they didn't care because they were laughing so crazily that anyone who passed them probably thought they had been hit with a tickling jinx.

They continued walking up the corridors laughing so hard their bellies were beginning to hurt until suddenly Onyx was tapped on the shoulder.

A small but pudgy boy who Onyx thought was called Peter Pettigrew asked, "What's so funny?"

"Black was bothering us while we were outside and Onyx chucked a snowball straight into his mouth," Jasmine said wheezing from laughing so hard.

Peter let out a hearty chuckle before saying,"Oh, I would have paid good money to see that."

As Remus, Sirius, and James rounded the corner of the now slightly dripping corridor Onyx called out, "Hey Remus, how's it going?"

The blonde-haired boy smiled before replying, "Well enough, Onyx. Yourself?"

"I've been doing quite pleasantly." Onyx said refusing to look at Sirius even though he was literally shaking with anger, "Have a good day, Peter, Remus."

With that, she took Jasmine's hand and together they skipped down the corridor leaving behind nothing but 4 boys and a puddle of mud.

Sirius still appeared slightly miffed and trying to cheer him up James said, "You'd think we were invisible the way she treated us."

Sirius simply socked James in the arm in answer.
