Chapter 3 (Pt. 2) - Evelyn
Evelyn thought nothing of it, other than hoping he was right. But still, her father wasn't always correct. "Even if he doesn't turn up," Evelyn stepped into the room, and smiled at the other girl. "You guys will have a ton of fun at my party. It'll be like he was there the whole time." She explained casually. "And hey, I bet he'll show up at my party. He loves that kind of thing. He thinks it's innocent and darling, right?" She suggested, and her eyes shone faintly.
Amelia pondered on the words. It was true. Her older brother had been training with her for so long with their Waltz, he'd do anything to get to see her dance. He'd always loved it when Evelyn came over to their house, too. He used to teach the girls how to play video games, and then help them with their schoolwork, and even give them advice on boys. With each stage of life they went into, he offered a new wisdom from just a few years ahead. Especially when Camilo had turned twelve, and their parents began going on all of those business trips. They left Camilo in charge, and over time, he figured out how to babysit and somewhat-raise his younger siblings, and Evelyn when she visited Amelia.
"You're right." Amelia finally said. It was a dim consolation, but any flicker of light, even a faux light, was welcome to one who wandered through the darkness. "Camilo always wanted to hang out with us whenever we did anything exciting." Amelia noted. She let out a long, slow breath, and tucked some hair behind her ear. "Alright Evie, I'm with you. Let's keep getting ready for the party." Amelia brightened up again. It was a great sight for Evelyn.
For the rest of the night, the girls decorated the house. The plain white walls flourished with colors they'd never before seen. The bland wooden staircase glowed with the reflection of dancing rainbows. It was the most color in one place Evelyn had ever worked on.
Save for the time she helped decorate for the senior prom. She wasn't old enough to be there. Service hours had to be racked up, after all. The girl who had everything still had to work at least a little bit for her future to be successful! When the night was no longer young, the pair ended up falling asleep, Evelyn by her pillow, and Amelia at the foot of her bed. It had been a fun and tiresome night, but all of the decorations were up, and ready for the party.
