"Thoughts are like burning stars, and ideas, they flood, they stretch the universe."
Night was fallen on the plains of Rohan, everywhere little fires were lit to keep the evil away. Our fellowship had made their own fire along the edge of the group refuges from Edoras. Gimli was snoring loudly and I saw Legolas making faces at the red-haired dwarf. I smiled. They were becoming good friends.
I look to my right, Aragorn sits next to me, smoking his pipe. I can see his mind is elsewhere. 'Estel' I say quietly. He blinks a couple of times, I brought him back from his dream world. 'Yes Eleniel?' He sounds a little annoyed. I shrug it off. 'Never mind' I mumble and lay myself down of the grass, turning my back away from him, my face towards the fire. Immediately I feel the warmth. Aragorn doesn't react so I close my eyes and try to sleep.
I wake up when I feel a hand on my shoulder. 'Please, give me a minute' I mumble, turning around in the grass...
'Henig' (Child)
I open my eyes fully in shock and there before me, stands he, Mänwe, the King of Arda and above all my father.
'Ada' is whisper and if I am a small child, he lifts me up in his arms and embraces me with all his might. I feel hot tears streaming down my cheeks but when I look into my father's eyes, he has also tears in his.
'Henig, how I have dreamed of this moment' He says to me. He sets me down on my feet and Naneth appears also, stars surrounding her. She closes her arms around me and Ada. We stand like this for a time. But it feels nice, to have my parents back.
When my parents release me, I can see my surroundings again. 'Where am I?' I see a golden forest and standing on top of a hill are two tall trees, one glistering gold and the other one is silver. 'This is Valinor' Ada answers me. 'This is your home, and home of the Elves when the seas calls them home'
I remember that, Elrond told me once!
I turn around, now I see I am standing on a balcony. 'And this is my home?' I ask when I face them again. Naneth nods. 'Yes Henig' She smiles, but it is a sad smile. 'I wish we had more time' She whispers under her breath, tears in her eyes. She takes a step forward and embraces me once more. Also Ada hugs me. 'Do not fear, you are our Daughter Eleniel!' Ada speaks. 'When you need help, ask and it shall be given to you'
With that they disappear and when I open my eyes again, I lay on the grass. It is still night and the stars above me are shining brightly. 'Are you okay?' I hear his deep voice asks me. Quickly I turn around and move closer to the Ranger. 'Yes, I think so' He looks at me. 'I saw my parents again' His expression changes, becomes softer.
'What did they say to you?' I shake my head. 'Nothing important. I was standing in their home in Valinor and the were just happy I was with them' I can't say my home, because I can't remember I was ever been there. Aragorn nods understanding. He too moves closer towards me and his hand slides around my waist, pulling me closer towards him. 'I saw Arwen' he mumbles after a time. 'I thought it was a dream, but she was really there. I was with her in her room in Imladris' I look at him and he looks weary, a sadness lies on him. 'She loves me' He whispers. A shiver runs down my spine. I don't like this conversation. 'And do you love her?' I ask the Ranger. It is quiet for a while but then he shakes his head. 'No, I thought I did. But It was a dream' He squeezes my waist and I rest my head on his shoulder. 'She told me about my path' He adds. 'And?'
'Dolen i vâd o nin' (My path is hidden from me) He whispers and lays his head on top of my own. 'Si peliannen i vâd na dail lîn. Si boe ú-dhannathach' I say reassuring him. (It is already laid before your feet. You cannot falter now) 'Eleniel' Aragorn says tired and lifts his head of mine. I look into his stormy eyes and place my finger on his lips, silencing his fears and doubts. He bows forward and rest his head against my forehead. 'Eleniel' He says again. His other hand slips around my waist and pulls me against him. 'I do love someone else' He breathes. I look into his eyes again. They are filled with love. 'Gi Melin' (I love you) He whispers. His lips linger for my own. 'Ae ú-esteliach nad...' I whisper, hope filling my heart. (If you trust nothing else) I lay my hand on his heart, its beating fast and steady. '..estelio han. Estelio ammen' I am silenced by his lips, folding on my own. (trust this. Trust us)
Aragorn takes my hand in his and we kiss passionately under the stars who shine brightly and behind us a new dawn comes up.
I never knew it would happen. I mean deep inside I knew I loved him.
And now, it is said, no turning back.
Aragorn and I stayed like this for a while, telling each other our dreams and fears. It is clear he loved me also from the start. The little gestures and touches he did these couple of months, it was all love. But the both of us couldn't see it. We were blinded by the quest to keep Frodo save. But now, here in the open plains of Rohan we can be honest to each other. Maybe this is the last time we could tell one another the truth.
When the morning is upon us, we start the journey to Helms Deep again. Théoden king said we arrive at the beginning of the evening. So here we are again on our horses. Legolas is annoying smiling at us and I know the Princeling knows about us. 'Shut up' I hiss at him and again he laughs what draws the attention of Éowyn. 'My Lady?' She asks, I only shake my head. She smiles and continues to ride next to Gimli.
My mind drifts of too Arwen. Aragorn told me about what happened and what Elrond had told him. But now she is sailing to the undying lands with the rest of my kin. I hope my sister is happy there.
I wake up from my daydreaming when a cry sounds through the air. The Ranger also looks up and his eyes find my own.
I see in the front that Gamling draws his sword. 'Wargs!' He yells. A Warg throws what I assume is Háma away and turns to Gamling. Legolas who was on the lookout is firing arrows.
Seriously what have I missed?
The Warg is wounded and throws his rider of onto the ground. 'What is it?' Théoden asks me when he sees me looking towards the ridge. 'Wargs! We are under attack!' I yell. The people begin to scream and try to turn around, back to Edoras. 'All riders to the head of the column!' The king commands. Next to me Gimli tries to mount his horse. 'Come on. Get me up here. I'm a rider!' I chuckle and luckily Gimli succeeds. The horse races forward and he almost falls off.
Legolas is running ahead, he reaches another ridge, overlooking a vast plain but over the next hill a large number of Warg riders appear. I mount my horse following Legolas. At my right I see the king talking to Éowyn. I shake my head.
She nods at him and begins with leading the people towards Helms Deep. 'Follow me!' Théoden screams and he charges forward and we follow. 'Make for the lower ground!' I hear Éowyn scream. We all ride together, charging at the Wargs. I look back, seeing Aragorn making his way towards me. Soon he rides next to me and Gimli. We ride over the hill and from my left I see Legolas jump and comes down on Arod, together with Gimli he rides on. The king and his men are crying their battle sounds and soon the two armies clash. I see only spears, arrows, teeth and swords. Men fall of their horses and the Uruks are also lying dead next to them.
I jump of my horse and immediately my sword make contact with an Uruks head. The head separates itself from its body and a dark smile appears on my lips.
Dead.
On my left towards the end of the cliff I see Aragorn and Théoden king fighting together. Good.
'A She-Elf?' I hear a Uruk sneering. 'What does a women on battle grounds?' Just in time I turn around and I block his sword with my own. 'Killing you' I mumble and I push my sword into his stomach. The uruk yelps out in pain and falls dead on the ground.
One dead, twenty to go.
In the corners of my eye I see that Aragorn helps Gimli, he kills a Warg in front of the stubborn Dwarf and I can't help it but chuckle. 'She-Elf!' A burning pain in my arm lets me turn and again an Uruk smiles at me, his sword draw. I look to my left arm and blood is coming from the wound he just made. 'Your too beautiful to die. Maybe I keep you' He says with a grin on his face. 'Never' I spit and push my sword in his neck. With a nauseating sound he falls dead on the ground.
The battlefield is suddenly quiet, I turn around and see that all of the Uruks are dead.
Victory! We have won!
I see the Princeling, he walks around like he is searching something. 'Aragorn!' He calls out. My heart sinks.
No!
'Aragorn!' I hear Gimli also yell.
No, no!
I see them walking to the edge of the cliff, I start running towards them. My knees almost give in when I see them looking over the edge. When I am near them, I hear a Uruk laugh. Legolas looks up and sees me, his eyes soften. Again the Uruk laughs and together with Gimli he approaches him. Gimli hold his axe threateningly over the Uruks head. 'Tell me what happened and I will ease your passing'
'He's ... dead' The Uruk says with difficulty and laughs again, spitting blood. 'Took a little tumble off the cliff' He continues. Legolas bends down and grabs the Uruk by the shirt. 'You lie' But the Uruk chortles and dies with a smile. Legolas roughly releases him. Something in the Uruks hand catches his eye and he takes the item. Legolas holds a piece of clothing in his hand, his expression changes to worry. He turn to the cliff where Théoden is standing.
I don't want to look, afraid what I shall see, I let Legolas and Gimli look. I see them scanning the ravine below for a sign of life. But there is none. Gamling runs up behind us and the King turns to him. 'Get the wounded on horses. The wolves of Isengard will return. Leave the dead' Legolas turns around, again he looks first at me and then back to the king. He is looking with anger and sadness at him but Théoden puts a comforting hand on Legolas shoulder. 'Come' He says to him and turns than to me. 'Eleniel, he is no more. Come child' Legolas looks at the piece of clothing still in his hand. 'I don't believe it' I hear him whisper.
Neither can and will I.
I never experienced dead, but I know that the dead of someone you love is horrible. They have told me that and I hoped and thought I never had to experience it. But now, my soul is broken.
With a strangled cry I fall on my knees, letting the tears fall from my eyes.
He the one who holds my heart, is no more.
So i am back from Kos! I hope you liked this chapter! Please vote and comment your ideas!
