Chapter Twenty-one

Zethes resisted for a moment, but gave in, "You are pretty- I mean right. A malfunctioning dragon does sound like an emergency... Alright. Follow us."

They followed the Boreads to the castle. For a moment, Crystal was worried they would crash. The demigods didn't stop or slow down. Suddenly, a section of the roof slid open, revealing a hole big enough for Festus.

They landed in a penthouse suite looking room. Except the room was covered in ice. Frost covered the furniture. The curtains were frozen solid and the windows were ice covered, letting in watery light. The ceiling even had icicles.

Festus shuddered and snorted flames. Frost started forming on his scales.

"No, no, no. We can't have this," Zethes said. "We can't have fire in here. You have to shut it down."

Festus didn't seem to like that much. He growled. Crystal comfortly patted his neck.

"Um, he doesn't really like to deactivate. He gets a little iffy about that," She replied. "but I do have a solution!"

"Crystal, what are you doing?" Leo asked.

"Remember when we were repairing Festus last night? You left to grab something. While you were gone, I found a few buttons. There are some that you should not do. The others..."

She hooked her fingers behind one of the dragon's leg. She pulled a small switch and Festus folded up into a rectangular edge about the size of a suitcase. Crystal tried to lift it, but it weighed a lot.

"Wait, there might be a- there it is!" She pushed another button and wheels and a handle clicked out.

"Wow, Crystal! That was cool!" Leo smiled.

"No! Stop!" Zethes shouted.

He and Cal withdrew their jagged swords and shoved the point against Leo's chest.

"Are you a spy? Sent from the South Wind?" Zethes glared.

"No," Leo replied. "I'm just a son of Hephaestus. Friendly blacksmith!"

Cal looked at Leo. "Smell fire."

Leo looked a little scared. "My clothes are sort of singed and I do work with oil and-"

"No!" Zethes pushed his sword a little more in his chest. "We can smell fire. I assumed it was from the dragon, but I realize it's you."

Crystal stepped up. "It's me. I have fire powers. Not Leo."

Zethes looked at her. "It is you too, but it's faint. Earth is strong on you. He, on the other hand, smells like fire."

"There's been a mistake," Jason had his gold coin in his hand. "Leo isn't a fire guy, right?"

Leo looked on the verge of panic. "Um..."

Piper interrupted, "Zethes? Can you put your sword down? We are friends, let's talk."

"I cannot romance right now." He poked his sword point deeper into Leo's chest.

With a start, Crystal realized that frost was spreading across his shirt.

"Destroy?" Cal asked.

Zethes nodded, "I think so-"

"Whoa, no, no, no! No destroy!" Crystal pulled Leo away and put her arms in front of her. "Relax! Leo is just a son of Hephaestus. He is no threat. Seriously! Of course he smells like fire. He works in forges all day. His dad is the god of fire, man! You guys have to chill."

Zethes lowered his sword. "Fine, we won't kill you. My sister won't be too happy, though."
