Chapter Three

"Hannah?"

The figure grinned. "That's my name, don't wear it out!"

"What is wrong with you?! You scared me!" Crystal put her hand on her heart.

Hannah just gave a shrug and a huge grin. Crystal jumped off her horse and landed by her old friend. The two girls hugged tightly.

"I've missed you! I haven't seen you since you last visited Texas!" Crystal said.

"Me too! I- wait. I missed you and all, but why are you here?" Hannah pulled away.

"I...um...well, you see... My aunt was killed by this monster thing and the last thing she said to me was to come here and give this letter to a man named Chiron." said Crystal.

"Chiron? I know him! Come on!" Hannah started walking deeper into the forest.

Crystal grabbed Nightshade's reins and followed Hannah.
She stopped in front of a tall entrance with a sign written in Greek.

It said:

Ψaμπ Cαλφ-Bλόόδ

"Camp Half-Blood?"

"Yep! It's where us demigods stay and train to protect themselves from monsters." Hannah explained.

"Aunt Marie said something about this," Crystal said. "But I don't understand."

"You don't understand? Haven't you ever wondered why you don't have a phone? Or why Marie moved out into the middle of nowhere? Or even why your parents are gone? It's because she was protecting you from monsters. Crystal, I don't know how that monster found you, but that's not good. There's a reason Marie sent you here. This is a safe haven for demigods. Here, you train to fight against monsters like that." Hannah ranted.

Crystal blinked. "But we're only eleven!"

"Most monsters will ignore us until we're old enough to cause trouble. Which is about ten to eleven years old. By then, you're either here, or dead. You got lucky. Well, sort of..." Hannah trailed off, looking a bit guilty.

"It's okay." Crystal sighed. "So, I'm stuck here forever?"

"No. Well, you can leave, if you want to die. But some people stay year-round or just for summer."

"What about you?" Crystal poked Hannah's cheek with her finger.

She laughed. "I just stay for summer. You, I think, will have to stay year-round since you uh..."

"Have nowhere to go? Yeah." Crystal finished.

Hannah cleared her throat. "Uh, let's go in."

Together, Hannah and Crystal stepped into the entrance way. Crystal immediately saw so many things, she barely could process it.

The landscape had many buildings that looked like Ancient Greek architecture- there was an open-air pavilion, a circular arena, and an amphitheater. Only, they looked brand new, sparkling in the sun. Nearby was a sandpit with dozens of high school-age kids and satyrs playing volleyball. Canoes floated across a small lake. Kids in bright orange shirts that read Camp Half-Blood were chasing each other around a cluster of cabins nestled in the woods. Some people shot targets at an archery range and others rode horses down a wooden trail. Crystal blinked. Some of the horses had wings.

"That's where we'll put your horse." Hannah pointed to a stable where several horses were.

"Will she be safe there?" Crystal asked, concerned.

"Of course! The satyrs take care of the horses."
