Chapter Nine
Crystal growled again. The voice stopped.
"Thank you."
You're welcome.
"Gah!"
-----
So far Crystal had been at Camp Half-Blood for a year. When Luke betrayed the camp, it made an impact on everything. He was one of her few friends, pretty much the one who actually would hang with her, help her, talk with her, whenever he had the chance. No one ever really wanted to talk to her because the annoying voice inside her head would just chatter on and on until Crystal got frustrated and yell which would scare the camper in the process.
Sometimes, the voice wasn't so annoying. It helped her in tough situations or tests such as archery. It corrected her form and told her how to aim. She was much better at archery than before. Crystal would talk to the voice when her friends couldn't hang out with her- which was often. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth were always busy hanging out with each other or being with Percy's new-found brother, Tyson.
Hannah, who tried to hang out as often as possible, had to help out at the forges most of the time.
Crystal went to the fields often and relaxed in sun, breathing the scent of strawberries during free time. She figured out that she could make the plants grow faster when she was around them. When she consulted Chiron about her ability, he told her to keep it to herself until they figure out who her parent is. She had a feeling he knew who her parents were, but even if he did,he showed no motive to tell her.
Crystal figured the voice in her head was her mother, and even though she asked, the voice would not answer.
But who, was the real question.
She had heard from Annabeth that the gods would sometimes talk to their children in their heads, guiding them. There were many possibilities of who her mother was.
Athena? No, she wasn't smart enough.
Aphrodite? Definitely not.
Demeter? Maybe, but Crystal had the feeling Demeter wasn't her mother.
Crystal sighed and stood up. She headed towards the Hermes cabin.
BOOM
The sudden noise and shaking made Crystal fall to the ground.
What is that? She thought.
She stood up.
BOOM
Suddenly, Crystal heard a cracking. Almost like glass. She turned around to see the border around the camp being attacked by two mechanical bulls.
They'll never get in. The border is magical. Crystal thought.
She turned and started walking away.
CRACK
Crystal slowly turned around facing the property line. Suddenly, the border shattered and the bulls charged into the camp.
Straight at her.
Crystal barely screamed before she bolted towards camp. It probably wasn't the best place to go, because it'll cause a lot of damage, but that's where Percy and Annabeth are.
"Run! Take cover! Help! Do something!" She yelled out, towards the campers.
They went into battle mode and immediately grabbed weapons, charging at the bulls. The weapons bounced off the bulls, who played no heed to them. Crystal continued running until she saw a familiar building.
