Chapter Fourty-Two

Crystal shrugged, "Honestly, no. It's been kind of a rough night, you know what I mean?"

Lycaon nodded. "Yeah, actually I do, I- agh! Stop this nonsense! Wolves, attack!"

The wolves ran towards the group. Crystal started to move forward, but was interrupted by an explosion. Leo had thrown gasoline on the ground and set it on fire. Unfortunately, Crystal was a tiny bit too close, and a couple of fallen strands of hair from her bun was singed off.

"Leo!" Crystal hissed.

Leo turned to her. "Would you rather be dinner?"

The fire didn't last long and Leo became increasingly tired with every blast of fire her threw.

You better stay vigilant or your lover boy is gonna get killed...

Out of the corner of her eye, Crystal noticed a wolf sneak around the fire and lunge for Leo. On instinct, she tackled the wolf midair and wrestled it to the ground. It struggled against her hold, clawing wildly and snarling. One of its claws slashed Crystal across her cheek. She growled raised her dagger.

Lycaon cackled. "Your weapons are useless against my wolves!"

"Wanna bet?" Crystal stabbed her dagger into the throat the of the animal, which whimpered and melted into a puddle.

Lycaon's eyes widened. "Impossible!"

Suddenly, a silver arrow pierced the air, striking a wolf. It melted into a puddle like the previous wolf. A rain of arrows flew through the air, taking down more wolves. One arrow struck Lycaon on his shoulder. He mumbled a few words and scurried off with his pack. A moment later, a graceful white wolf with golden eyes appeared at the cave. Two more followed it. One wolf creeped closer to Crystal, who was on her knees. She didn't move an inch as it came closer. Piper told Coach Hedge to not kill it, watching the wolf approach Crystal. Leo visibly tensed up as the large wolf was mere inches from Crystal's face. Crystal turned her head, squeezing her eyes shut. Her green eyes flew open when she felt a warm, wet tongue slid across her face. The wolf was cleaning the claw scratch on her face.

It backed away when a group of hunters appeared at the entrance. They wore camouflage parkas and carried bows with silver arrows. Crystal couldn't see their faces.

"Phoebe, stay with me and watch the entrance. Everyone else, go find Lycaon, we can't lose him again." One of the hunters said.

The group disappeared and the leader turned around. "Is everyone okay?"

Jason stood completely still as Piper spoke up. "Are you Thalia?"

The girl tensed and said, "Do I know you?"

Jason finally moved. "Thalia, I'm Jason. Your brother."
