Chapter Four
Some people shot targets at an archery range and others rode horses down a wooden trail. Crystal blinked. Some of the horses had wings.
"That's where we'll put your horse." Hannah pointed to a stable where several horses were.
"Will she be safe there?" Crystal asked, concerned.
"Of course! The satyrs take care of the horses."
-------
"Oh! We have to go see Chiron," said Hannah once Nightshade was left at the stables.
She led Crystal to a farmhouse with a wrap-around porch. They walked up the wooden steps. A ceiling fan rotated above their heads. Hannah and Crystal walked to the end of the porch where two men sat across from each other. One man was small and porky. He had a red nose, big watery eyes, and curly hair so black it could've been qualified as purple. He wore a tiger patterned Hawaiians shirt. The other man was sitting in a wheelchair.
"Mr. Chiron. We have a new camper." Hannah said, pushing Crystal forward.
The man in the wheelchair turned and smiled. "Hello, child."
"Um, hello," Crystal waved nervously. "My aunt has a letter for you."
She pulled out the letter and Chiron took it. As he read the letter, Crystal looked at the man in the loud shirt.
The other man glared at Crystal. "I suppose I have to say it, don't I? Fine. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood, yada yada... Don't expect me to be happy about it." He got up and left.
"I'm sorry about Mr. D. He gets really cranky," Chiron said. "So, Crystal, you really don't know who your mother is?"
"No, sir. My mom disappeared a long time ago and I've never met my father," Crystal explained.
"I see," Chiron nodded. "Well, Hannah, would you mind showing Crystal around?"
"Yes, sir!" Hannah nodded and led Crystal away from the farmhouse.
"So, who's your mom?" Crystal asked.
"Cabin Six. Athena. Goddess of wisdom and battle." Hannah replied.
"Sounds fun."
~~~
The two girls passed by several buildings, and stopped in front of an arena of some sort.
"C'mon, I want you to meet someone!" Hannah pulled Crystal into the arena.
There, two people were sword fighting and a satyr was watching.
"Percy! Annabeth! Grover!" Hannah ran over to them.
Immediately, the two kids stopped sparring. Crystal followed behind Hannah.
"This is Crystal. She's new." Hannah pushed Crystal in front of her.
There were two boys and a girl. The girl had blonde hair that looked like princess curls, tan skin, and scary gray eyes. The satyr was scrawny, had acne, a wispy beard on his chin, and curly brown hair under a Rasta cap. The other boy had messy black hair and sea green eyes. He was adorable in a baby seal way.
"Hi! I'm Annabeth Chase," The blonde said. "This loser is Percy Jackson and the satyr is Grover Underwood."
"Annabeth is my half-sis!" Hannah hugged Annabeth.
"Who's your godly parent?" Percy looked at Crystal.
She blushed and looked down. "I don't know..."
Hannah smacked the back of Percy's head. "She's undetermined, Seaweed Brain!"
He rubbed his head. "Well, how was I supposed to know?"
"Seaweed Brain?" Crystal questioned.
"His head is always full of kelp." Annabeth said.
"It's my nickname. I'm the son of Poseidon. I've only been here a few months." Percy explained.
"And he's already saved the world." Grover said.
Crystal looked back at Percy. "Really now? That's interesting."
He blushed. "Yeah, it's no biggie."
"Oh, shut up. You know it's rare to be granted a quest." Grover nudged Percy's side.
"You got any magic powers?" Crystal asked.
"I can talk to horses, fish, control water, and breathe under it..." Percy rubbed the back of his neck.
"We have to go. I have to show Crissie her cabin." Hannah put her hand on Crystal's shoulder.
Crystal immediately stiffened. She pushed the hand off her shoulder and hissed lowly, "Never call me Crissie."
Hannah backed off. "I'm sorry. Um... maybe we should go..."
Crystal nodded and smiled. "Yeah. I want to know where I'm staying!"
