Chapter Eleven
"And the rest of you. Train as much as you can. Make sure you are prepared. We have no idea what's coming to us." Chiron said.
----
Crystal trained harder than ever before since the Colchis Bulls attack. She later learned that name from her friend Will Solace, as he cleaned the cut in her cheek.
She sliced furiously at the straw-stuffed dummy with her dagger.
Advance, thrust, parry, repeat.
She moved in rhythm and did not stop until her arm was numb. Her stomach growled with hunger, yet she lifted her arm and continued.
Crystal was about to decapitate the dummy but stopped midway when she heard campers announcing to assemble in the amphitheater.
~~~
Sitting on the benches by the bonfire, Crystal was squished between Travis and Connor, who were the new leaders of the Hermes cabin. They were arguing, but Crystal ignored them. The bonfire changed colors to everyone's emotions. It was yellow, green, blue, and even purple- whatever that emotion was. Mr. D. walked in, grumpy as usual. He stood by the fire and everyone quieted. He cleared his throat.
"I have decided that one of you campers will go on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece," he explained.
From across the way, Crystal saw Annabeth's face twist in anger, as if she had suggested the idea. Which she probably had.
The god continued, "And I have decided who will go. A brave, strong, and confident camper. She has proven herself several times, especially during the Colchis Bulls attack. The camper I have chosen is... Cassie!"
Crystal raised her head. After all, Mr. D. had called her Cassie before.
"I'm sorry, I mean Clarisse la Rue!"
Crystal stared at him for a moment before setting her head down again. She was sure it would be her. She was the one who destroyed a bull and trained harder than most campers! Clarisse had fallen and stayed down! Crystal furrowed her eyebrows. She felt angry inside.
Yes. That's it. Get angry, release your fury! Then you will join me!
Crystal's anger immediately dissapeared. That would be the last thing she would do. Whatever that voice was, persuading her 24/7, was definitely not good. Not something she should follow.
Clarisse looked excited to be chosen. Crystal sighed and clapped along with the other campers. She left her seat and shook hands with Chiron and Mr. D.
"Alright, campers. Prepare for bed and then lights out."
Crystal followed the Hermes brothers back to their cabin.
In the middle of the night there was a knock at the door. Crystal fluttered her eyes open and sat up. The cabin was sleeping quietly. Someone knocked quietly again. Crystal stepped over the sleeping campers on the ground, careful not to wake them. She opened the door, revealing Grover, Annabeth, Percy, and Tyson.
Her eyes widened and she stepped outside, closing the door behind her. "What are you guys doing here! The harpies will tear you to shreds if you're caught!"
"Listen, Crystal. We're going to go get the Golden Fleece ourselves. Percy heard a prophecy that Clarisse alone will fail. We may need you too. Could you come?" Annabeth asked.
Crystal sighed. "I'd love to, but..."
Percy sighed, "I see. That's alright."
Crystal gave them a half-hearted smile. "Yeah. I'll see you when you get back... Be safe, guys."
She watched as they crept away. Crystal went back inside the cabin, and laid back down. She could only hope they make it back alive...
