When the Child Becomes a Woman

Proserpina opened her eyes. She'd fallen asleep at her desk again. Leaning back in her chair she rubbed at her sore cheek as a yawn escaped her. Proserpina's eyes shifted to the egg. She was starting to think there was little hope of hatching it. She'd tried everything. Heating it, cooling it, different kinds of nests. Proserpina had even tried sitting on it herself once and still no change. It had been nothing but seventeen years of research and failed trials. She couldn't even figure out what creature it belonged to.

Her eyes shifted to the candle sitting in front of her. It really had made a mess this time. Wax was everywhere; the wooden top, the candlestick holder, and even the egg.

She sighed. She would have to clean it up later. By the spot the sun hung in the sky, Proserpina knew she was going to be late if she didn't hurry. She quickly got up from her chair and stretched her arms above her head, she groaned as her back popped.

Another yawn escaped her as she grabbed her robe from the foot of the bed and headed for the bath.

Today was a momentous occasion.

There was to be a grand celebration. A recognition of a new titan. This day was to celebrate to her.

It had come as no surprise to Proserpina, she'd known for some time now that she was to be her father's titan. She'd been training for this day her whole life. Proserpina was both honored and excited to receive her new title. More importantly, this also meant she could go along with her father to battle. That alone excited her more than anything.

Proserpina rounded the corner and entered the bathhouse. The steamy air greeted her as she walked towards the pool, removing her nightgown as she walked. Proserpina left the gown at the top of the steps before descending down into the pool. Once the water reached her chest, she then submerged herself fully but came back up immediately.

She didn't have the luxury of time today. It was her own fault so she couldn't be upset about it. She needed to hurry, the guest would be arriving soon.

Proserpina grabbed a washcloth and pour a little soap onto it. She began wiping her body down, making sure she got every nook and cranny.

It was customary for a new titan to show their strength in a demonstration. A battle between titans. More or less it was an excuse. The gods loved a good fight.

And so did she.

Proserpina tossed the cloth to the side and reached for the soap, she squirted some into her palm before massaging it into her scalp.

Her opponent was a man she did not know. A titan by the name of Bacchus. Proserpina wasn't nervous at all, quite the opposite actually. This new opponent sounded fun and mysterious. Though no more interesting than the God he served. The God of the Underworld. The only member of Jupiter's family she had not met yet. She wondered what he would be like.

Proserpina leaned her head back into the water and rinsed her hair out. She loved how soft the strands felt running through her fingers. It was definitely going to shine. Proserpina wanted to show off a little today.

She sighed, her time was up. Proserpina began up the steps. She twisted the excess moisture from her hair before she took her robe from the bench and wrapped it around herself. Dripping water and leaving a trail behind her, Proserpina headed back to her room.

Luckily for her. She had the foresight yesterday and had her outfits set out already. She pulled at the tie and her robe slid off her body. Proserpina picked up the short white dress off the bed and pulled it on over her head. She then wrapped a leather belt around her waist and secured it with the clasp. Proserpina plopped down onto the bed and strapped on her sandals. With a quick reach, she grabbed a blue ribbon from her side table and tied her hair up with it. Rising to her feet she secured her sword to her waist and picked up her shield.

She was ready.
