'Daughter of Earth, Son of Krypton' is the novel-length version of 'Son of Krypton, Daughter of Earth', written for the Open Novella Contest 2021. The story is based on Prompt--Fanfiction 13:

The original prompt is 'A storm is raging outside, but you're cozy at home reading a good story. When the lights go out, you figure it's the result of the storm, but when they come back on, you've been transported into the alternative aftermath of the book you finished reading. Where are you and what happens?'

As revised for this novella, it reads, 'A storm is raging outside, but Lexy Logan is cozy at her sister, Pris's, Manhattan studio condo, reading a novel featuring Superman, a fictional character in her world. When the lights go out, she figures it's the result of the storm. She is told to evacuate and joins a group that will take her to a hotel on Central Park. Lightning strikes, and when it ends, the sun is shining in the alternative aftermath of the book she finished reading. Where is Lexy and what happens?'

The secondary prompt is ONC 2021 Romance 71:

"This is our last dance, my dear," they said, to which you reply, "Then make it the best dance, my love."'

As revised, it reads:

Lexy stood still. She looked at Clark. "This is our last dance, my dearest Clark."

Clark pulled her close and they began to dance slowly. "We'll make it our best dance, beloved."

Lexy is trying to get her life together after the Covid Pandemic eases. She moved from South Carolina to Manhattan and lives in Pris's condo with Bootsie, Pris's cat. She temps for the huge law firm where Pris's fiancé is a partner as she hopes to make a new life in the Big Apple.

One night, an unusual storm, with lightning and wind, drenches New York City. She reads a Superman novel and watches TV, until she receives the order to evacuate. 

Her group is en route to a hotel near Central when a man has to go to the hospital. She crawls under an overturned carriage to keep out of the rain while waiting for the guide to return. Lightning flashes harder and stronger, deafening her, when a powerful purple and green flash blacks everything out.

When the thunder stops, the sun is shining, and emergency crews are helping clear up the park. A man in red boots lifts the carriage off her and disappears. She waits on a bench for transportation to shelter when a reporter interviews her about her experience.

He is Clark Kent from the Daily Planet, and she becomes hysterical to learn she is in Metropolis, on another Earth. She is taken to Star Labs where Clark visits her and she accepts she is in a dimension where Superman is real, not a fiction.

Clark is concerned and worried that this woman knows so much about him. Star Labs works on a way to return her to her Earth, and Clark befriends her as she lives in Metropolis. He begins to fall in love with the strange woman from another Earth but knows Lexy won't stay. She is determined to return to her Earth to donate marrow to her sick niece. Lexy realizes she loves Clark and accepts she must sacrifice this love to save her niece.
