Daughter of Demeter. The quiet one. Weird vine girl. That's what people know me as. Yes, I'm all of those things, therefore I don't mind. It's not like they're  making fun off me They just really don't know my name. Almost no one does. I'm spewing random facts, let's get on with the story shall we?

   I stood up from under the oak tree, careful not to bump my head on the low hanging branches, and set my book down. I had been reading for hours and my backside was starting to cramp up. I walked out of my cabin but not before a few strands of Ivy managed to wrap themselves around my arms and legs.

   For some unknown reason, Ivy is attracted to me. It's odd, even for child of Demeter. Sometimes my cabin mates tease me for it as they prefer pretty plants like daisies or roses not a wild creature like ivy, but I think it has more personality that way.

   I had almost made it to cabin 6 when I heard someone yelling to me.

     " Hey Icelyn! Looking for someone?"

   My name is Icelyn, Icelyn Fletching. I feel like I should've mentioned that earlier.

     The person yelling was Nixon, whom I had been about to visit. Nixon is the son of Athena. I'm not sure why, but he gets me. We had been friends since I first arrived at camp and he was the only kid who had looked past my shy demeanor and actually saw my cheerful personality. I loved him like a brother and I could tell he felt the same.

  "Yeah" I said when he was close enough to avoid yelling. " where have you been? You weren't in your cabin earlier so I started reading and couldn't stop."

"Oh ya know training." He said. " tryna build up these huuuuggge muscles." He flexed his arms up and down to show his AmAzIng MuScLES that DeFiNeTLy ExIstED.

   "Wow hot shot u plan on picking up any hot peeps and taking em out for a stroll ? Maybe go catch some dinner later?" I asked teasingly.

"Hot shot? You think I'm hot?" He asked in a mocking tone.

"Yeah right, I was joking you idiot."

     We tussled and joked around for a bit as we always do. He was the only person I could be myself with but that didn't make him any less family. I could never have a crush on the guy and he could never have one on me. It wasn't something spoken but it was definitely mutual.

We walked for a while while talking, not really knowing where we ended up and just enjoyed the stroll. When we stopped for the third time around the training grounds, we bumped into Chiron the centaur. I had always admired him for his personality but I was never really around him much.

"Nixon, there is a new camper we would like you to show around. She will be joining you in your cabin later and she could use a friend. Miss Icelyn can come with you if you're like."

I don't know how he knew my name but I didn't think much of it. He probably knew the name of every camper in Camp Half-Blood.

"Another child of Athena? Jeez. They say Zues is a player but Athena is a close match these days."

"Nixon shut up." I said teasingly. " You just don't want to cramp your cabin up even more than it is!"

" Hey! You have it lucky. You only have to share with three people."

"Pfft whatever. Let's go show your sibling around. Who knows, maybe you can scare em off in 10 seconds! A new record!"

He didn't say anything after that but he didn't take what I said to heart. Most likely it was because he was out of comebacks. I win!

We arrived, but we didn't see anyone. The room was quiet and dark. My ivy waited anxiously around my feet waiting and watching for any signs of danger. The room had an ominous feeling to it and I felt a tingle on the back of my neck. Like someone was....watching me...

"BOO!"

"Ahh!" I shrieked. Nixon just laughed.

For some reason, the girl who had just been laughing at the prank she pulled had a look of terror on her face.

"Help! Someone help it's choking her!"

Choking me? I thought. That's when I realized the vines that were so ready and waiting at me feet were now around my neck in a protective way, by choking me but just close enough as to have clear reach of the girls face.

"Shhhhhhh I'm fine! Shut up!"

"Oh uhh sorry,false alarm." She apologized.

"You sure aren't that bright for a child of Athena." I remarked. I immediately felt bad as anyone in their right mind would've thought those vines were choking me.

"Sorry I-I'm kinda new to this. You must be a kid of like a plant god or something right?"

" Yeah my mom is Demeter. Do you not know Greek Mythology?" I asked. She was around my age maybe a little younger and I had never learned mythology in school so it made sense.

"Not really no."

"You'll learn soon enough." I reassured her, trying to make up for my rudeness earlier.

That statement seemed to boost her confidence and she brushed her long raven hair away from her face.

"I'm Quiana, but you can call me Quinn."

A/N: Quiana is pronounced Kay-ah-nuh just wanted to let you know cuz when I first saw the name a while back I pronounced it kway-nah for a while :)

"I'm Icelyn and this is Nixon. It's rather odd I'm the one introducing us usually in the quiet one. Nixon can't keep his mouth shut to save his life." I said smiling.

"Hey! I kept my mouth shut this entire time didn't I?"

"Yeah, but that's because you have something on your mind. I can see you scheming from here!" I wasn't kidding. Nixon has been smiling and looking back and forth between us the entire time and it was starting to freak me out.

"Will you two cut it out? I believe we have a tour to get too." Quinn said excitingly.

We had met newbies like her before. So excited and anxious to get started and learn everything there is to know. She obviously didn't know the danger of being a demigod, how most dont make it past their teens.

Nixon led her out to the cabin and I trudged behind, having lost my spark due to well, people. Stupid anxiety. We made it to cabin 6 and I wished the two well. I supposed Nixon would introduce Quinn to the other cabin mates and teach her all about Athena as any good friend would do.

I headed back to my cabin, head towards the ground when for the second time today, I was called for. This time not by name.

"Yo vine girl!" I guys voice called.

I looked up to a tall boy and a group of teens, most of them Aphrodite kids, huddled in a circle laughing.

"Can we touch your vines?" He asked walking towards me. It wasn't the nice kind of ask it was in a rude, teasing manner.

"Cmon let us touch em!" He said

I continued walking away, this time faster but he proceeded on the chase like a cat hunting mouse.

I did the only thing I could do in the moment.
