Fowler's Trying To Kill Us And My Past Catches Up With Me.
"See you later, Mom," I called out as I went to leave the house.
"Holly," Mom said sternly making me turn back around to face her.
"Yes, Mom?" I asked hesitantly.
"I understand that you've been with your friends more often these days, but are okay?" Mom asked carefully. I gave her a smile which seemed to shock her.
"I'm feeling much better than I have in years," I admitted. This made her smile widely before grabbing me in a hug to rival to the ones that my human friends give me.
"Mom, can't, breath," I gasped out making her let go of me.
"You will take care of yourself, right? I don't care how fast you heal," Mom said sternly. I gave her a grin, hiding my sheepishness for already getting hurt way too much over the last couple weeks.
"Of course," I promised her. "But I've really got to go now," I added as I glanced to the door and back to Mom.
"Of course, see you later, Sweetspark," Mom said giving me a kiss on the top of my head before she headed back to the kitchen to keep baking. I gave a sigh of relief before quickly leaving the house.
"Thanks for waiting, Optimus," I said as I hopped in.
"It was no problem. Did you find the object you were looking for?" Optimus asked as he started to drive away from my home.
"Yes. I can't believe I almost forgot my headphones. I always pack them," I said disbelievingly making Optimus give a small chuckle.
"It happens to the best of us, sometimes," Optimus said. I could hear the amusement in his voice.
"Does it happen to you?" I asked curiously.
"It has happened," Optimus said. Was that a hint of sheepishness in his voice?
"Really? When?" I asked before realising what I asked was rude.
"I'm sorry you don't have to answer that," I told him sheepishly as he laughed quietly.
"It is quite alright," Optimus said amused. I pouted at him making him chuckle more.
"So?" I prompted.
"Alright," Optimus laughed lightly. "It all began when..." He started.
♦️
I hid my laughter from the others as Optimus transformed. Optimus had told me over the course of several days to ensure that I don't ruin his Prime show for the others. I rolled my eyes at the thought.
"Prime!" Fowler's voice said suddenly making Optimus walk over to the computer as we humans (And half cybertronian.) looked at it.
"Prime!" Fowler's voice called again.
"Special Agent Fowler? What do we owe-" Optimus started only to be cut off.
"What else? Cons!" Fowler shouted making me wince. "I've chased them off with some hard ordinance, but not before they blew me out of the sky," He added.
"Again?" Miko teased making Jack and Raf laugh at her quietly.
"They tried a smash-and-grab for the D.N.G.S," Fowler said. Scrap. I tried to remember all I could about the D.N.G.S. Or rather the Dynamic Nuclear Generation System. A prototype energy source that can easily blow up five or six states at once.
What? Fowler had me go through several of his computers to check for any Decepticon bugs or any human hackers in any of the files. One of the best hackers in the world right here. All thanks to me being half Cybertronian I guess.
"Dynamic Nuclear Generation System, aka D.N.G.S," I said making everyone look at me as Fowler nodded.
"How-?" Miko started to ask before I placed my hand over her mouth trying to get her to shut up.
"Yes, it's a prototype energy source that I'm porting to the coast for testing," Fowler added and I frowned at him. Seriously? If that got in the wrong hands who knows what could happen to the world.
"That's absurd. Why would Starscream bother with such primitive technology?" Ratchet scoffed. I rolled my eyes slightly.
"The D.N.G.S can easily blow up five or six states at once," I piped in, helping Fowler out, causing everyone to look at me again. The Autobots and my human friends looked shocked at this new information.
"Did Agent Fowler say what state he was currently in?" Raf asked nervously.
"I'm a sitting duck out here, Prime. I need you to spin up your bridge and send the D.N.G.S to its destination before the cons come back for it," Fowler said.
"I'm afraid that sending such a volatile device through a ground bridge is out of the question. If there were to be an accident during its transmission, the radiation of which you speak could propagate through the ground bridge vortex and harm all 50 states and beyond," Optimus said firmly.
He glanced over to me at one point in his speech. I personally agreed with Optimus. It's too risky to try the ground bridge.
"Got any better ideas?" Fowler asked.
"What about a Convoy?" Raf and I offered after sharing a look, making everyone look at us(Even Fowler on the screen.).
♦️
"No need, Agent Fowler. I will handle the driving," Optimus said making me laugh silently. My human friends looked at me confused as I calmed down slightly. I'm sure they could see the twinkle of amusement in my eyes.
"It's gonna be a long trip," Fowler grumbled. I coughed, trying to hide my laughter. This was going to be so amusing for me.
♦️
"We are locked onto your coordinates, Optimus. Barring any complications, you should reach the dropoff point by sundown" Ratchet said as the computer beeped, our guardian's beacons flashed on and off on the screen. There was a horn blowing over the comms making me wince and immediately cover my ears.
"Seriously?" I muttered in annoyance as I hid the pain away.
"Move it, gramps!" Fowler shouted. I believe that I can safely assume that Fowler is the one blowing Optimus' horn. Poor Optimus.
"Agent Fowler, is that really necessary?" Optimus asked. I inwardly laughed at the sound of annoyance in his voice.
"Ah, don't tell me you're one of those textbook drivers," Fowler said. Miko and I shared amused looks.
"He kinda has to be," I muttered to Miko making her snicker as well as Raf and Jack as they overheard.
♦️
"You know you're saving my bacon here, Prime," Fowler said after a while.
We ended up just sitting in different places on the platform. Miko and Jack were on the couch. Raf was sitting, watching Ratchet. I was sitting by a wall finishing a bit of homework that I hadn't been too sure about this morning before school.
"I am proud to be of service," Optimus said.
"'Course, not like I'd need your help if you and the cons had stuck to tearing up your own corner of the galaxy," Fowler said. I looked up at that and glared heavily at the screen.
So what if they came to earth with their war? I wouldn't be here without whoever my father is. We (Miko, Jack, Raf and I) wouldn't have met the Autobots. Perhaps the Autobots might've not even been able to live if they stayed and the Decepticons won, only because of sheer numbers.
"Are you suggesting that no evil existed on your world before we arrived?" Optimus asked dryly. That's a massively good point. When has there not been evil on this planet?
"Of... well, it was a... different evil," Fowler tried to counter. I rolled my eyes as I went back to my homework. "How about some radio?" Fowler said trying to cover up the awkwardness. I snickered as I wrote an answer.
"You seem like a Nashville-sound kind of guy," Fowler added before seeming to pause. I rolled my eyes. Optimus totally was. I mean, I listen to country music most of the time. I find it relaxing compared to the pop stuff that most kids my age listen to.
"That's the one! The 'con who shot me down! Who is he? Wingnut? Dingbat? Skyguy?" Fowler said suddenly(First off, where does he get these names from?) making us all jump in surprise. Well, everyone but me. I hid the surprise as I quickly packed up my now finished homework.
"Watch your rearviews," Bulkhead said as Ratchet started typing on the computer. I shared confused looks with Raf as we joined back up underneath the computer screen.
"Feeling a little constricted without the use of my fists here, boss," Bulkhead said as Ratchet paused confused at the screen.
"Remain in vehicular mode unless absolutely necessary," Optimus ordered.
"A whole team of 'cons," Fowler said.
"What? I'm not picking up anything," Rachet said shocked. "They must be utilizing a cloaking technology," He added thoughtfully as we shared looks.
A very human-like "Pull over," was able to be heard over the comms and I frowned. Human involvement?
"Well, I'll be dipped!" Fowler said shocked.
"Our assailants are not Decepticons. They are humans," Optimus relayed to us.
"Human?" The other three gasped with Ratchet.
"It would explain quite a few things," I mumbled thoughtfully.
"Oh, please. Taking on our bots? They're roadkill!" Miko said confidently. A couple of seconds later we were able to hear the screeching of tires.
"Who are these guys?" Fowler asked.
"Autobots, maintain your cover and apply minimal force. Disarmament only," Optimus commanded. I bit my lip nervously. I hope that it all goes well, but knowing our luck it wouldn't go to plan. We were able to hear the sounds of something crashing and more of the screeching tires.
"Could use some air," Fowler said sounding sick. I rolled my eyes as Miko snickered with Jack. Primus, those two can be so immature sometimes.
"Prime, bear right!" Fowler shouted suddenly making me have to grit my teeth and clench my fists tightly as my ears overloaded with the noise. Raf touched my arm slightly with a concerned look. I gave him a small smile as I unclenched my hands. We heard Optimus' door open then shut before reopening and shutting a few seconds later.
"I do hope you take better care of the D.N.G.S than you do your captive," A different voice said suddenly. I shared looks with Jack, Miko and Raf. What was going on?
"Special Agent William Fowler here. Identify yourself!" Fowler ordered. Quite loudly I might add. I managed to hide the slight pain from my friends that time.
"I am Silas." The voice said. I froze in fear, causing Ratchet and my friends to take a glance at me in confusion. No, no, no it couldn't be him. Why now of all times?
"But of greater consequence to you, we are M.E.C.H. Fair warning we will be helping ourselves to your device, even if it means inflicting casualties," Silas said. I played with my hands nervously. If Silas wants something he almost always gets that something.
"Is that so?" Fowler challenged Silas. "Tell me, Si, what's the market price for a D.N.G.S these days?" He asked. Oh, I'm 99.99% sure that Silas wouldn't be selling it.
"What makes you think we intend to sell it, Agent Fowler?" Silas asked. You know what? Make that 110% sure that he's not going to sell it if he gets his hands on the D.N.G.S.
"There's a war brewing between the new world order and the newest. The victor will be the side armed with the most innovative technology," Silas continued. I shared a look with Raf.
"So, Si. You think that M.E.C.H has all the most radical tech?" Fowler said. I glanced up at the screen, where the slag was he going with this. Fowler knows better than anyone about what M.E.C.H is willing to do. There were sounds of cars crashing and an explosion.
"Later, Si," Fowler said. I kept playing with my hands nervously. I did not have a good feeling about this. And Silas definitely wouldn't give up until it would be his only choice.
"Agent Fowler. Do not take your "Silas" lightly. Megatron preached the same ideology before plunging Cybertron into the great war that destroyed our world," Optimus said grimly. I stopped my nervous fumbling as a wave of sadness flowed through my body.
"Optimus, prepare to initiate phase 2. 5 miles ahead to the south, you will reach the rendezvous point," Ratchet said as he typed at the computer. I went back to fumbling my hands nervously.
♦️
"There's our destination point," Fowler said after a while making us look back up at the screen.
"Autobots, keep a tight formation," Optimus commanded before we could hear the sounds of the train beside them. It was rather quiet until the computer went off.
"Air support? Ours or theirs?" Fowler asked as I bit my lip nervously. My human friends looked nervous for their guardians as well.
"Optimus, you have company," Ratchet warned. I flinched as I heard an explosion over the comms.
"Agent Fowler, I'm afraid that if you and we are to survive, it has become absolutely necessary to drop our cover," Optimus said seriously before we could hear the sounds of our guardians transforming. We all looked at each other nervously. This day was definitely not going the way I wanted.
"Remain here," Optimus said. I could only assume that he was talking to Fowler.
"Will do," Fowler said sounding a little bit sick. Miko noticed and started snickering to herself. I rolled my eyes at her immatureness.
"After a long road trip, it feels good to get out of the car and stretch my legs and kick some tailpipe," Bulkhead said making Miko and Jack laugh quietly as Raf showed an amused smile. I just bit my lip in nerves. If Silas saw them, who knows what other kinds of tests he would do on them.
"Special Agent Fowler, you lead a charmed life walking among titans," Silas said making me freeze in fear again. He saw them. He saw the Autobots.
"Come on down. I'll introduce you," Fowler said making me yell at him internally. Why would he say that? He knows what Silas is capable of.
"In good time. But at the moment, I'm too busy wondering how the D.N.G.S might have vanished into thin air without a trace," Silas said making us look at each other nervously.
"Now, if you'll excuse me. I have a train to catch," Silas said ending his comm to Fowler as we heard a helicopter flying away.
"We're scrapped," Miko said nervously with Jack and Raf nodding along. I gulped quietly.
"Prime," Fowler said into his radio as we were able to hear the crashing of metal on metal. "Silas got wise to phase 2!" He continued to Optimus. I flinched slightly as we were able to hear more crashing.
"I understand," Optimus said to Fowler before his comm went fuzzy as we faintly heard him groan before he crashed. I winced slightly as the familiar pain that came with the loud noise came rushing through my body.
"Prime, do you read me? Prime?" Fowler said. I bit my lip nervously as the volume of Fowlers' voice also caused more pain to rush through my body. Miko, Jack and Raf gave me nervous looks as the metal bars started to bend under the force of my hands. I quickly removed my hands.
"Are you alright?" Raf asked quietly.
"I'm alright," I tried to convince him quickly. He gave me a disbelieving look before looking back at the screen nervously.
"Optimus is down," Miko said making my blood run cold.
"M.E.C.H's gonna grab the D.N.G.S. We need to think of something quick," Jack said making me freeze sightly before letting my brain think of any possible solutions.
"You mean like a phase 3?" Raf asked nervously.
"Come on, Holly. Think," I muttered as I rubbed my forehead with both hands.
"If M.E.C.H wants the D.N.G.S," Jack thought out load.
"The train," I smiled as it came to me. "We need to get on the train using the ground bridge before M.E.C.H, Raf can get the coordinates for the train and at the right moment we bridge there," I grinned as Ratchet seemed to frown upon my idea.
"Yeah! Run some human-on-human interference?" Miko added.
"Absolutely not," Ratchet said quickly.
"Yeah, that would be suicide," Jack said agreeing with Ratchet.
"Hello? The United States of Meltdown? Lives are at stake!" Miko huffed at the two of them as Raf and I shared a glance.
"Yes, yours. You want me to not only bridge you into a confined space but one travelling at 90 miles per hour?" Ratchet asked her rhetorically quickly. "I can't even count the number of ways that can go wrong. Mass-displacement trauma-" Ratchet started to say before I cut him off.
"We get it Ratchet," I rolled my eyes at him.
"Regardless it is nearly impossible to fix ground bridge coordinates on something moving at that speed," Ratchet said trying his best to stop the idea.
"Would it help if we had access to the train's coordinates?" Raf asked as I folded my arms smugly at Ratchet and Jack as Raf displayed the train's movement on the screen.
"Well..." Ratchet tried to find a way out
"Fine!" Ratchet grounded out at us before he started the ground bridge up.
♦️
"Be safe," Ratchet told me before I was about to follow Jack and Miko to the bridge. "Optimus would have my tailpipe if you got hurt," He muttered. I gave Ratchet a grin.
"Of course," I told him before following Jack and Miko as they jumped through. They, of course, decided to fall over as soon as they reached the other side making me have to quickly jump over them.
"Really?" I asked them as the ground bridge disappeared and they stood up. They both gave me a mock glare before Jack held his phone to his ear.
"We're in," Jack said into it.
"I read you, Jack. The cellphone-comlink patch works," Raf said excitedly. I grinned at Raf's excitement before freezing up as I heard a helicopter. Jack and Miko looked at me concerned as they also heard it. I gave them a small smile before helping Jack open the door to the side of the train cart.
"Raf, M.E.C.H's landing on top of the train," Jack said into the phone as I bit my lip nervously.
"In about 20 seconds you're gonna come to a fork. Brace yourself," Raf warned as we held on. I almost smiled in relief when the helicopter ended up almost flying into the cliff wall. Before it came back and landed on the roof. We spun around as someone started to drill a hole in the roof.
"Huh? So what'd that buy us? 10 seconds?" Jack scoffed making me elbow him.
"Raf is losing his touch," Miko said quietly.
"As if you two would do any better," I told them as I nervously watched the roof. Miko grabbed an axe as Jack grabbed a fire extinguisher. What is up with these two always grabbing those weapons?
Miko with the axe at the Control Room for the dishes and Jack for the scraplets. Me? I just raised my fists as the drilled part of the roof fell down revealing a few men in masks.
"You want a slice of this? Well, do ya?" Miko threatened them.
"What she said," Jack added nervously making me roll my eyes.
"We need to work on your guy's lines," I muttered low enough for just them to hear. Miko snickered as Jack glared slightly at me. I perked up when I heard Optimus' footfalls as he ran. I breathed relieved as I heard Silas order his men to retreat.
"Whoa. You're pretty fierce," Miko said to Jack as they hung out the door to watch the Helicopter fly ahead.
I closed my eyes as I strained my ears to hear Silas,(A voice I admittedly hate to hear.) "First rule of combat. Never - enemy - Spoils," I faintly heard him say as he got farther and farther away. I winced as I heard a gun shoot and cause an explosion.
"Whoa," Jack gasped at something as I heard the helicopter fly away.
"Ratchet, M.E.C.H blew the train tracks," Jack said causing me to open my eyes in shock. "You need to bridge us out of here, the soldiers too," Jack said urgently.
"We've lost access to the train data! I can't bridge you back without your coordinates!" Ratchet said sounding panicked.
"Optimus, Jack, Miko and Holly are on that train, and M.E.C.H has blown the tracks," Ratchet said to Optimus as we listened in. I felt a wave of panic come over me. I haven't even met my father yet, and here I am about to die.
"I'm on my way," Optimus said. We could hear the sound of him speeding up.
"Maybe we should jump?" Miko offered. I rolled my eyes at her.
"You two wouldn't survive," I told her as I motioned to her and Jack.
"At 90 miles an hour?" Jack asked her.
"It's the impact or the meltdown. Take your pick," Miko said. Jack sighed.
"What were we thinking, volunteering for this?" Jack asked
"Next time you need to do a better job of talking us out of these situations," Miko said to him making me hide my laughter with a cough.
"Next time," Jack sighed trailing off.
"We can buy ourselves a few seconds if we're in the back of the train right?" Miko asked, mostly to me as I had my eyes closed listening for the familiar sound of tires.
"Miko, Holly, at least we're in this together," Jack said sadly. I gritted my teeth as I tried to hear over the noise of these two and the train.
"Raf this is important! Make sure Bulkhead gets my guitar," Miko said sadly as I opened my eyes with a grin.
"Might not have to," I told her happily. They looked at me confused before looking out of the train and saw Optimus drive past.
"Don't read the will just yet," Jack said with a small smile towards me. We then watched as Optimus transformed and held back the front part of the train. Making me have to cover my ears as the screeching from the train tracks almost (Maybe a little but almost!) made my ears bleed.
I breathed in relief when Optimus was able to stop the train. Jack and Miko cheered as we jumped out of the cart. Optimus looked relieved as well to see us safe. I looked up when Optimus did and I felt all the blood drain from my face as I saw Silas watching me and Optimus in the helicopter.
"Well played, visitor. But M.E.C.H still has home-field advantage, we will find a way to level the playing field. Even if we have to open you up like the girl to see what makes you tick," Silas said before the helicopter flew away. Optimus looked down at me in concern as Miko and Jack watched me confused.
"Can we just go back to base now, please?" I ask quietly as I drop my gaze to my hands that were shaking.
"Optimus, are you and the children... intact?" Ratchet asked over the comms.
"Intact, Ratchet. Crisis averted. But the world of which we live is a different one than previously imagined," Optimus said as he took a look at my shaking body as Miko and Jack celebrated being alive before watching after the helicopter again. "One of which has spawned its own Decepticons... in human skin," He finished.
♦️
I hadn't said a word since we got back to base which seemed to make everyone worry slightly. I knew Optimus heard what Silas had said and that made me scared. I didn't want anyone knowing what happened.
"Are you okay, Holly?" Raf was the first to ask me. Everyone seemed to freeze and look at me. I really wasn't okay. But did I want them to worry about me? No.
"I'll get better," I said just as quietly as when I asked Optimus to come back to base.
"Are you sure?" Jack asked this time. I nodded silently, keeping my gaze on my hands.
"You better be!" Miko said enthusiastically. This seemed to make my three human friends and their guardians back off while Ratchet kept taking curious looks at me. Optimus, however, was unreadable to me, which was strange because I could almost always read him.
"May I please return home, Optimus?" I asked after retrieving my bag. Optimus nodded and transformed as I made my way down the stairs. I didn't look back at my friends as they watched me concerned. I couldn't seem to stop myself from shaking even when I was with (Because saying I was inside of him sounds weird as frag.) Optimus.
"Are you alright, Holly?" Optimus asked after several minutes of me trying to stop shaking as he drove in silence. I looked at my hands nervously as memories came to the front of my brain.
"No," I admitted in a whisper. I wasn't even sure if Optimus had heard me until he slowed down and parked on the side of the road.
"Do you wish to speak of it?" Optimus asked. I bit my lip nervously. Should I? Would Optimus judge me differently because of it?
"When I was 10, I was kidnapped by M.E.C.H." I started hesitantly looking down at my hands nervously.
"At first they tried to scan me to find out why I was different, how I wasn't fully human. How I was able to heal as fast as I can. But when they found that they weren't getting the results they wanted they started to cut me open to find out. It wasn't until a couple days before my 11th birthday that Agent Fowler and Mom found me. Mom took me back from them and we've been in hiding ever since. We just moved to Jasper when I was 15," I admitted. I felt tears fall down my face and I moved to wipe them away when a hand did it for me.
I looked up to see someone. "Optimus?" I asked hesitantly. He grinned and nodded.
"This is a Holoform. It allows us to blend in more with humans," Optimus explained. I nodded as tears kept falling before hugging him. He seemed to freeze up before putting his arms around me. We stayed like that until all my tears were gone.
"I'm sorry," I said quietly as he let me go.
"It's alright. I just wish that M.E.C.H had never done that to you," Optimus said with a slight growl. I nodded as I wiped away a few more tears.
"I suppose you wish to go home now," Optimus said. I nodded but leaned into him as a side hug. Optimus smiled fondly at me as he continued to use his Holoform and he drove himself with it.
♦️
"Thank you. For everything, Optimus," I said as his Holoform smiled at me. I gave him one last hug before climbing out of the semi.
"Of course," Optimus smiled at me as I gave him a wave when I reached the door. I watched him pull away, his holoform disappearing after a short bit before going inside.
I made my way to my room quietly. When I looked at my desk there was a plate of baked goods and a note with Mom's neat handwriting on it.
'Thought you may want some after a day at school and hanging with your friends.
Love, Mom'
I smiled and took a bite out of a chocolate chip cookie. Delicious as always Mom. You know just when to cheer me up, even if you haven't seen me all day.
♦️
"Sir, we've found her,"
"Good. And the mother?"
"Yes, sir,"
"Subject Spitfire, You'll be back here soon,"
♦️ ♦️ ♦️
I hate myself for doing this to Holly...
