Chapter Five
The taxi stopped on a regular street. I looked at the street name. 'Baker Street'. He unlocked the door, stepped into the building and sped up the stairs to his apartment. I slowly followed him and entered. He had the apartment 221B.
I walked into his messy apartment. There were papers everywhere across the floor. I assumed that Sherlock had something to do with this. "Nice place." I said sarcastically. "Who else lives here?"
"No one." Sherlock answered. He obviously wasn't in a good mood. "You can sleep in John's room."
"Who's John?" I asked.
"My friend who used to live here." I threw my bag on the sofa and sat next to it while Sherlock sat on a chair across the room. "Shouldn't we go to Scotland Yard?"
"They can wait."
After about five minutes of awkward silence, the door to the flat opened. A man walked in to the flat. He had silver hair and looked rather casual. He looked at me in confusion and then to Sherlock. "Client?" He asked Sherlock.
"Daughter." Sherlock answered. John went back to looking at me then Sherlock.
"Wait. You have a daughter? When were you going to tell me?"
"Right mow. John this is..." I felt angry again.
"Alice." I said sternly. "In case you didn't notice, we're not getting on too well."
"She's staying in your old room. She can't bother me there."
"Sherlock, try to get along with her. Tell you what, take her stuff up for her. Be a kind person for once."
"She has limbs. She can do it herself."
"Sherlock just take her stuff up." John made his way to the kitchen.
Sherlock finally came back downstairs from taking my bag up. He and John were quietly arguing in the kitchen. They didn't even notice me slip out of the room to the hallway downstairs. My phone had started ringing. I was expecting sympathy calls. "Hello Melanie." I said. Melanie was my best friend and the only person who had called me. Seeing as I had no other family, this wasn't suprising. "Hi Alice. I'm so sorry for your loss. Are you okay?" She asked.
"I'm fine thanks."
"Are you sure? I know you and your mum were close."
"Yeah. I'm better than yesterday but she taught me to be strong so that's what I'm doing. My dad is ruining that though."
"Your dad?" I explained everything to her. Every little detail. "Wow. Good luck living with him."
"Thanks. I'll need it."
"Hey, text me your address and we can go out for lunch or shopping or something tomorrow. Sound fun?"
"Sure. I'm sure grumpy won't care." Mel laughed down the phone. Suddenly my phone was snatched out of my hand by someone behind me. "Come on we're going." Sherlock ended my call and walked out onto the street. "You can't just take my phone from me like that."
"Yes I can because I just did." John followed us out and then into a taxi. "Grumpy, huh?"
"Well it's true." I snatched my phone back and sat opposite from the two men. John tried not to laugh. "What's so funny John?" Sherlock hissed.
"Nothing. Nothing at all Sherlock." John lied. I could see his desperation to keep his laughter in. At least I was making someone happy today.
