Chapter XCIV: Judgement
I was in emotional pain. Although I should have gotten used to Levy sputtering hateful words towards me when he wasn't in the mood, I was still wounded to the point where I couldn't believe that he could say these kind of words.
Watching the parks drift by on our way, I was feeling down and I didn't want to see Levy after his outburst, that was why he sat behind me with his dad beside him and I sat beside Mrs. Christina. I didn't want to face him anymore.
"I'm going to drop you off at a deserted motel nearby their territory while we get into their hidden warehouse to find the location of that damned door that will end our troubles." Mrs. Christina declared, mainly aiming at me and Levy with her words. I didn't say anything, I just hoped this would get over sooner.
I felt homesick, tired and disgusting from the fact that I was now a part of this chaos that I so willingly jumped into for the sake of my second family. A melancholic part of me wished that I had never dived into this mess but my internal battle shut down when I was reminded of the true colors of my mom's past and my aunt's insanity along with the sacrifice my dad had to make for me.
If it wasn't for this journey, I would have never known these torturous secrets.
"We're here darling," Mrs. Christina announced as she stroked my cheek gently while Levy and his dad got out of the car without waiting for me. "Levy cares about you so don't get yourself down. You are a very strong girl Lia but you don't know it yet." I gave Mrs. Christina a small smile and she smiled back.
After the cabin got burned down along with our stuff, the little stunt from the gang did nothing to affect us, we stopped at Target to get what we needed, I brought a few shirts and jeans along with shoes and new bathroom supplies like toothbrush and comb before we proceeded to the motel Mrs. Christina talked about during the ride.
We approached the deserted motel in the middle of a desert somewhere unknown in Washington. Mrs. Christina took shifts with Levy to help Mr. Clay in walking through the rough concrete that was supposed to be the entrance of the motel.
"Hey, sweet cheeks, what can I help ya with?" the receptionist had a southern accent when she greeted us with kind caramel irises.
"We want three rooms." Levy got straight to the point as he messed with his black hair and strained his voice to speak.
"We only have two rooms available," she replied to Levy's impatient demand. He didn't even meet my gaze, I could tell that he didn't want to talk to me like before.
"I guess I will have to take the floor," Levy muttered. "Okay, two rooms." He decided. I felt annoyed by his attitude and the shade he was throwing at me constantly.
"How many nights?" The young receptionist asked.
"Two nights." Mr. Clay answered. She smiled and gave us the keys. I smiled back with a heavy heart and we went to the second floor where our rooms were.
Mrs. Christina hugged me after she told us that she would be with her husband to explore the whereabouts of their territories and shoved a gun into the back of her trousers like her husband. Although it was a bad deed, I couldn't help but gush internally at their teamwork and antics. I had been with them long enough to know what they would do and how would they act.
I just knew they complemented each other in such a passionate way that I awed sometimes when I used to catch them sneaking in kisses and shooting together.
Looking at my wishful guy while he was tucking his gun in like his parents, I felt dreadful about the silent treatment fiasco that has been going on.
Levy's parents walked out to give us a moment and I gazed at Levy warily like he was a dynamite. His amber eyes met mine back just as intensely and I knew what this was all about.
"Levy, you can't protect me forever," I stated once I blocked his way with my back to the door. "I am not a little baby, you of all the people should know that by now."
Levy sighed and raked a hand through his slicked back hair in agitation.
"You're so oblivious to the danger that surrounds us, Lia," he said as he stepped closer to me.
"I know what danger this is and I'm going to do whatever it takes to end this war so we could go back to the life we had before your gang fights ruined it." I declared and he just scoffed with an angry scowl on his face.
"Gang fights? you fucking knew what you were getting into by choosing me, you turn this on me because of who I was made to be, this is so fucking unfair," he shouted and I was as equally irritated at his outburst. The Levy that I knew never raised his voice on me.
"I am not blaming you for it, if I wanted to be a part of your plan to help, I will with or without you." I snapped and he punched the wall, making me gasp before he stepped closer to me.
"Go back to your boring life and leave us alone, I'm sure you don't want to be involved in my gang fights." He said while quoting what I said before to make his point before he gently pushed me to the side to storm out.
My tears hit the floor before he slammed the door closed and stomped off to his parents making my heart hurt even more.
Even though Levy was my weakness, I was going to make him see my strength. With Mrs. Christina's encouraging words replaying in my head, I grabbed the new extra gun that he bought with his parents and it came along with a license attached to it so the police wouldn't suspect what Levy had in his suitcase when we unpacked our newly bought suitcases. I followed them discreetly with one last hope.
